I don’t believe that Rebecca Long-Bailey is an anti-Semite, as a Corbynite, I’m a fan of her, but you have to have a very basic understanding of the context.
This is a party that is plagued by vile anti-semitism, anti-semitism that is very often snuck under the guise of criticism of Israel, and a party that is desperate to get rid of said anti-semitism.
I’m critical of Israel, they have consistent human rights abuse and act in a very violent and neo-colonialist fashion to its neighbours.
But with all that context, when a high-profile frontbench cabinet member, one that is often held up as the torch-carrier for the old Labour (the same old Labour consistently criticised for anti-semitism), does something that is publicly called out and denounced by the Board of Deputies of British Jews as anti-Semitic...
You have to see that Starmer had to do something.

This is bullying and I don't know why its happening. The last few years, its just come out of nowhere.
If I put a tin-foil hat for a moment, I'd say its right wingers both in and out of the Labor party (especially Tory controllers of the BBC and corporate media etc.) and right wing Jews (heaven knows what the politically correct way of saying that is) basically trying to cripple the left with their own sensibilities. It’s not that straightforward though. The US police train in Israel yes. But they don’t learn specifically to pin someone by the neck from them in the way they did George. To attribute is death to Israel is ridiculous. It’s ultimately a dog-whistle - it subtly links back to the idea that somehow, Jews are the cause of all that is wrong via loads of sneaky arrangements with other countries and intelligence services. It isn’t true. RLB was an idiot for sharing it considering everything that has gone down. Even if it was disproportionate, which I don’t necessarily disagree with, Kier had to do something or risk the next election being all about anti-semitism, and lose. Convenient to get rid of the Corbynite, sure, but his hands were pretty tied if he wants to be taken as a serious contender for PM, which he absolutely should be.

Starmer is simply paying lip service to the anti-semitism issue within the Labour Party. I don’t believe Long_Bailey did a great deal wrong. Put it this way, there are undoubtedly a few hundred less palatable individuals within our good House.

Rebeccka you failed to follow the basic shadow cabinet's direction. There was time to try to modify the shadow cabinet's direction of thought via lobbying & other moves. However you missed this option by a country mile & instead went for an 'instant' undermining approach which was clearly a failed strategy. Who guided you to this odd selection?

The sacking doesn't seem an overreaction to me.
I read the piece in the Indie... The Israel reference was awkward, it stood out, it smacked slightly of trying to get two birds with one stone. It was baseless.
Secret services do not hold seminars with the domestic police forces of foreign powers, even foreign powers who underwrite all their costs.
Peake was daft to tack that onto her interview and make herself sound a bit tin-foli-hat David Icke fodder.
I am sure she is not, but she might consider how things will read before offering them to the press.
Following that, RLB was not smart to tweet a link. Spectacularly not smart.
Had she read the article and thought the Israel reference trivial? Mistake.
Had she seen that it was an M Peake interview and linked without reading it? Mistake.
RLB was not a town councillor or even a backbencher... She was a member of the Shadow Cabinet.
Why Peake would speak confidently to a national paper on a topic where her passion and opinions trump her grasp is a mystery.
Why RLB would spread that further, I cannot fathom.
RLB is powerfully supported and will bounce back. That may or may not be a good thing.
I write this as a Liberal who nonetheless finds in KS a potential for national unity and harmony I have not felt since John Smith was leader.
