Hello friends, sometimes when I want to shift in to 3rd gear I hit the 5th gear, especially when I drive curves. Is it the same issue like in this video or is it the gearbox!? Thank you
Crank, it seems to be something like a spring loaded pin that prevents the shifter to go in the 5-6 by its own... just like the one for the reverse gear.. the spring is mostly not the problem it seems to be that the pin needs to be changed... seems to be a common problem by bmw in that model
I have also the same problem,my shifer is staying between 5-6 but not all the time.In the most of time is working fine but when in going faster and im changing to 5 and after i want to go in 4 is not geting back in his place.Do you have video for the spring or pin what you change?Thank you
I had the same problem on my e46, except I only had to replace the shifter. I didn’t touch any bushings or anything and it sticks between 4-5 gear. But after a while the shifter settled right in place. Thanks for the video, very informative.

Have you encountered a shifter that wont go into 2nd gear? It goes into all other gears fine but it wont go into 2nd.
I hate the idea reving the engine on the first gear up to the point it goes just fine to switch to third

I think yes . There is one spring that needs to be changed , on the side of the gearbox . Not sure where i will be able to do that , and record it .

Yes if i remember right the pin was stucking , that's why the spring wasn't able to do her job .
