What Was the Real Reason Hitler Never Left Berlin?

- Do you think that Hitler should have left Berlin? Do you think the capital would have surrendered sooner without the German leader there? Was this the reason why Hitler did not want to leave the German capital? In this program we are going to reproduce the last conversations that Keitel and Hitler had in their Berlin bunker. In it, in addition to solving all these questions, we will see what Hitler said about the peace talks that were going to begin at the end of April.

I couldn't do it . That AI voice u got ? Christ man at least fo some editing
goodness the computer generated voices are less than acceptable.
I wondered why they were so poor! I initially thought the commentator was either stupid or totally ignorant. The documentary, while generally good, is badly let down by such elemental errors as the correct pronunciation of German names.
The German pronunciations were some of the worst I've ever heard! It's BERCHtesgaden, not BerchTESgaden. I know the ch sounds are difficult for non-native speakers, but at least put the stress on the correct syllable. The one in Goebbels is pronounced something like er, but with rounded lips. The w in Wenck is pronounced like v, and Gen. Jodl's name is pronounced just like yodel. 😬
@@valerietaylor9615 Agree. These videos seem to be well-researched and composed, but butchering the words and names just makes me wince sometimes.
@@valerietaylor9615 Thanks, I did not uinderstand what was said (if that word can be used here).
Yep. The script is good, but it must be possible for an actual human to read the text. 👎 for this video for me because of that reason.
Keitel did not stay. He and Jodl eventually went North, to Doenitz. They were the ones who went to Rheims, to sign the Unconditional Surrender document.
Keitel didn't go to Reims. He had to show up in Berlin because the Russians were offended that Jodl instead of the top banana man signed, and only to the Western Allies.
6335, os soviéticos pelo papel principal de derrotar HITLER, alcançaram a cômoda posição de exigir o que consideraram mais digno e não apenas ser coadjuvante. Pagaram caro por esse direito, bem mais que os outros " aliados'" .
@@wr1120Lol you can tell Jodl wanted to be the one to surrender to the Western Allies and left the unenviable task of surrendering to the Soviets in Berlin to Keitel.
Well, where was he going to go? He's the most wanted man on the planet at that time and running to nowhere just ain't an option.
I guess living underground for such a long time really exhausting and torturous for him and he understands now that he could not hide for the rest of his life. All was lost, his people has lose hope and his generals were either dead or betray him. The only last option left is just to commit suicide to escape justice and burden as a leader.
That's true I thought he might have been working for the secret police in Australia but it was just a look alike
Bro Argentina 🇦🇷 president was ready to welcome him with flowers in their most advanced aircraft.but he was one heck of a leader stood by his principal and troops and scarified the most important life of this war history world🫡
They wanted him to go to the Alps
He could go to Argentina, like so many of the NAZI's!
Hitler had to be in Berlin when the curtain fell....history demanded it. Hightailing it to Bavaria would have only postponed the inevitable - ignominiously. Hitlers point on the East Prussian collapse after he left is new and interesting to me...
First I've heard of it too. But I think he got cause and effect backward. He left because East Prussia was about to collapse. What were they going to do, stay and allow him to be captured? It did not collapse because his holy (not) inspiring presence left.
O
Hitler leaving may have opened more possibilities in negotiations.
Hitler seen what unfolded as a wagnerian opera that he loved so much . So he played his part in the final act
I think Hitler didn't want to look like Mussolini. Sneaking out like a coward.
Instead he offed himself in a bunker like a coward.
@@zyxwut321Cause why not have your enemy toss you around and knowing your trial will be unfair.
Only an idiot would willingly be captured and be used like a toy
@@zyxwut321 okey jew 😂
He should have went out with an mg 42 strapped with hand grenades and a panzerschrek. Imagine from a soviets perspective seeing the leader of the third reich firing an mg42 while screaming in German. This could have caused the entire Eastern front to collapse and perhaps allowed steiners counterattack to fulfill its objective of capturing Moskow.
That's hilarious .
If only consider his supposed speech of "dying with his troops"
@Chuck Norris Damn chucky somehow it doesn't surprise me you're a hitler supporter.
You made my day, dude! Just imagine this scene...
This makes Soviets more eager to fight to capture Hitler alive...
#1: He just heard that Mussolini had been killed and beaten by his own people and did not want to suffer the same fate
#2: He knew he would not have gotten far if he had of left as Nazi held territory amounted to almost nothing by this point
#3: He had no desire to live with his empire vanquished and did not want to live as a hermit the rest of his life
#1 False. While Hitler was aware that the Duce had died, he had no knowledge on the manner of death Mussolini had suffered, and he had decided to kill himself long before the Duce had died. Most historians don't believe that Mussolini's death affected Hitler's decision to kill himself in any way.
#2 Such broken English that I can't even understand what you're saying here.
#3 Hermit? He would have been publicly executed had he surrendered. There is no way he would have been allowed to serve a life sentence like Hess.
Hitler made it very clear in his testament why he killed himself.
He definitely learned what had happened to Mussolini and how the body was treated. This lay behind his decision to commit suicide and have his body destroyed, rather than falling in battle which was his original intention. Basically, he did not want Stalin to have his body to put on display. It had nothing to do with his decision to stay in Berlin which was due to the reasons stated in the video.
@@coloradoing9172 #2...I THINK YOU MEANT: "BAD GRAMMAR"(?)
@@coloradoing9172 The second point was that he would not have gotten very far because the Nazis held little territory at this stage in the war. The third point cleary didn't mean a prison sentence. It was assuming if he fled undetected, he would've lived as a hermit, which he had no desire to do. He even said himself "I would be spinning an empty prayer wheel."
@@coloradoing9172 You interpretation skills are as broken as his English.
He was the "captain" of the ship. A good captain doesn't leave a sinking ship. I think this was his way of thinking.
As a brave competent soldier for the complete duration of the First World War winning the Iron Cross twice and Wound Medals he was never going to allow himself alive or dead to be captured by his enemies to be to be a macabre spectacle hung upside down, defiled ,mutilated, urinated and spat on as was Benito Mussolini and his Lady Clara Petacci. Instead he waited until the Soviet Soldiers were 500 metres or so away, said goodbye to his loyal staff told them to break out. He then retreated with his wife Eva who bit into cyanide capsule, Hitler then I would imagine seeing his wife was dead, took a last look at the portrait of his mother pulled the trigger to as he put it “endless peace” His and his wife’s body were then cremated in a shell hole with a final salute. Like a Wagnerian crescendo, thus robbing his enemies the aforementioned gruesome spectacle.
So Hitler was a good captain?
He was a cow or he did not die in a bunker he escaped he was a coward.
But he killed himself. Therefore abandoning the ship before it had sunk.
Hitler left this world and the German cities and population in ruins, His suicide is looked upon as cowards play and a total joke especially by family members of the SS fighting to the end and the trials after WW2 .All the best .

I couldn't even recognize the name of that city when he said that, and its name is very familiar to me.
The German word for garden is "Garten". The mispronunciation of "BerchTESgaden" really threw me. Most people at least put the stress on the first syllable, "BERCHtesgaden", which is correct.
This crazy faith that Britain would eventually ally with Germany to keep the Soviets out of western Europe The British were in fact very unhappy that the Soviets would dominate so much of Europe, but were resigned to it. They, and the US, did what they could to limit the Soviet spread by helping Italy, Greece, and Denmark.
Hitler was a liar. He said it only to give hope to those around him.
As the matter goes about Britain, you can't be sure in anything. Just think about "Unthinkable". The problem for Churchill was that peoples in Europe were utterly tired of war and trying to start another war essentially out of nowhere will be politically suicidal.
@@colder5465 Americans were tired of the war also. Once it ended the Golden Age of America began in 1950-1973. Arab oil embargo ended the golden age of America and quality cars. Now we all drive junk built to fail in 3 years or less.
Britain is brain dead, they have a big mouth because USA was in there back pocket
It is interesting to note that the Allied powers were willing to accept the absolutely atrocious Joseph Stalin and his leadership of the Soviet Union and the tremendous damage that they did far exceeding with the Germans did and it's over the course of 60 years joseph Stalin actually takes the top spot in the crimes against humanity on top of it all so why the resignation to accept Soviet domination and the threat that be ended up posing for the rest of the world and not do the same for Germany ?

I think it was just "Untergang", not "Der Untergang." But "Untergang" is German for "downfall." That movie was made in Germany. 🇩🇪
Hitler was as safe in the Berlin Führerbunker as he would have been at his Berghof in Berchtesgaden. Allies destroyed it by bombing on April 25, 5 days before he committed suicide. He would have been forced into the Berghof bunker.
He left Rastenburg to save his skin. He didn't wanted to be captured by Stalin. I don't blame him. Stalin would have tortured him and used him as as a zoo exhibit in Moscow. He made the best decision available to him at the time.
I've always thought so, too.
Actually, it's very simple. Contrary to other Nazi leaders, he had absolutely no illusion that he could somehow evade justice. Nazism was personified in Hitler. And in his case the retribution would be horrific, not comparable with that of Göring. Maybe, only Himmler's fate could compete.
Its officially called National Socialism.
@@clovergrass9439You are right. Actually, this is "small" but diabolical difference: the Communists said that the course of history is defined by the class struggle, and the Fascists (or in the case of Germany Nazis) said that the course of history is defined by nations struggle. And so the Fascists consider this absolutely right to build prosperity of their nation at the expense of all other nations. Hence their Socialism is National. Only the German Nazis went on this way to the end openly and publicly declaring certain other nations underhuman (untermensch) and assuming the right of exterminating them. Actually, the practice of extermination wasn't totally new - American Indians would confirm that - but Nazis declared that publicly as a state policy and created extermination camps.

I think Hitler just loved Berlin and would never leave, regardless of the consequences.
As usual, you guys present a very interesting video and clear commentary. Thanks again.
THe CITY ITSELF ? he couldn't wait to reconstruct it in his own image. Why did he order it to be destroyed, and made unfit for the people to live in ? THEY had failed him.
Berlin was just important to him as the capital of the German nation. Hitler was Bavarian from top to toe and was way more tied to Munich. He lived there before coming to power, he joined the Bavarian army in WW1, and he left his enheritage to that state.
@@wr1120 he was an Austrian!!
He hated Berlin and Berliners. He saw it as a bastion of the vanquished KPD and a nest of vipers. While it is true he wanted to remake Berlin into the Global Capital, as a testament to the power of Germany, and himself, he personally disliked the city.
He loved it so much he would have it destroyed before surrender. And then he killed himself.

Hitler's take on leaving the front lines and then an almost immediate collapse....it would have collapsed anyway...staying in Berlin in hopes of winning some sort of battle as to 'wear down' the Allies was delusional.
Also faith in the "Wunder Waffe"!
Hitler was a huge fan of the Operas written by Wagner. Hitler had long fantasized about the last battle Götterdämmerung.
Gotterdammerung was his favorite opera, because it ends in total destruction, and all the characters die. Come to think of it, it's my favorite, too. 😂
8:02 "The Marshal who wanted to be a farmer". Did Keitel REALLY wanted to be a farmer? If so, how and why it's not being told?
His father owned a very successful farm which Keitel was supposed to inherit but for some reason the whole thing fell apart. So there is truth to that.
Are you sure with the dates. Wasn't the last meeting occured on 22nd April rather than on 23rd of April?
Yes. I believe it was April 22, and that was the conference that had Hitler and Guderian arguing over Gehlen's intelligence report . According to James P. O'Donnell's book, The Bunker, some witnesses thought Hitler had had a heart attack. Hitler then blurted out, " the war is lost ! "
