GOA| Kushawati Heritage Trail : The Ancient City Of Chandor | Heritage Connect Episode -5|

Heritage Connect takes you all on the wonderful journey of Kushawati Heritage Trail. This trail was innovated by well known historian of Goa Prof. Prajal Sakhardande (Dhempe College, History Dept). This trail is one which brings the hidden side of Goa in the hinterlands. The scared grooves, caves, the pristine natural & monumental heritage.

The first destination in this trail is the ancient city of Chandrapur known as Chandor after the Portuguese renamed it. Also called Chandar in the local dialect. It is situated on the bank of Kushawati river in Salcete taluka. The distance from panaji is 43 KM Via Margao or Ponda. From Margao it is 8 KM.
The city served as a capital of the Kadambas, here we find the ruins of Shiva temple with old remnants of the fortress walls and form one of the oldest structural remains in Goa. Father Henry Heras on his discovery of Chandor in 1929 CE, found a very old and shattered image of Nandi, Shiva’s Bull, believed to be affected adversely by raids in the 13th century CE. This is part of a complex housing the relics of an ancient temple dedicated to Shiva, known alternatively as Isvorachem.
Anyone who tends to visit Chandor can enjoy delicious goan delicacies at Ambotik Restaurant which is situated in Assolda (Quepem Taluka) on the other side of Kushwati river around 500 mtrs from the site of Shiva temple in Chandor.
