  • Self Reliance Outfitters, the Pathfinder School, Pathfinder Knife Shop, David Canterbury, and Corporal Kelly are all influences on me...from following them on social media to reading books to interviews and booth coverage at trade shows. In this video we look at the newest backpack in the Self Reliance Outfitters pack lineup...the Pathfinder Scout Pack. After significant development and testing from Corporal Kelly and David Canterbury, will this pack be able to perform effectively for the bushcraft or survival application? This video is a first look and first impressions video and in the future we will look at this pack while out on the trails.

    Very similar to the jaakari M from Savotta, which are extremely high quality but hard to find in the U.S, I will be getting one surely.

    I'm looking forward to the next video. Im hopeful you show a loadout. I really like camping with my 40 liter cus it forces me to go lighter, so I'm curious how close this gets, or if it just piles over your head. Thanks for the video

  • @Crafty.Veteran.Survival

    Definitely want to get this one someday. Looks great 👍

    Hope they get more in stock i like this pack! Bushcraft meets military design! Just enough molle for a few additions if need be. I would run this with a roll top pack liner. Hyperlite mountain gear dcf bag. Or just wear a poncho when it rains. But its always good to pack your gear as if it could get wet. Good review man! Pathfinder scout!! Hike on!

  • @denofearthundertheeverlast5138

    My problem with this pack is the side pockets should be on the outside and covered and not take up any room on the inside of the pack, thats why I went with the Highlander Forces 33L Rucksack in 1000D polyester (they also make a 44-66L) and I bought the Brandit Cross MOLLE Pouch that basically transforms the pack into a "Expedition" style pack with the two side pockets, and the front pocket pouch that straps right on the front, it also has webbing on the bottom to lash a roll to on the bottom. The lid straps are long enough to add a roll under the lid also.

    Enjoyed the video. You can sew (or a shoe or luggage repair) a piece of webbing onto the shoulder strap for your camera holder

    i dont know about the satal bags but they make waterbottle and canteen bags that can be used as satal bags and would most likely fit along both sides

    I really like it.
    Like I have said before I do not drive so my Backpack is my EDC pack as well as for camping and hiking.
    Great thorough review.
    Q: do you remember the pros and cons of every pack you own? or do you have a file/re-watch your own videos?

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 2 lety +1

      I pretty much know all the pros and cons of all my gear...to be honest for the most part I just need to look at a product to know what's gonna work and what's not gonna work from a glance. But it's the field testing that either confirms my thoughts or sometimes catches me by surprise. But for the most part I know what works...or not.

    I was sold until the velcro on the roll-top design and the large pocket covered in velcro. Where are the matching detachable side pockets? All and all it does look like a nice setup and I like the accessory straps.

    You should do a review of the L.L.Bean continental weekender pack, I think that back is better than this one for thirty dollars cheaper with same build quality but with better features

    Hey Eric thanks for showing this pack I kind of want one but looks a little small do you know the dimensions of the main compartment there not listed on there web site thanks again just subbed looking forward to the load out vid and use of this pack

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 2 lety

      I would have to estimate the dimensions...maybe 21" x11"x11" roughly...which is 2500 CI or about 40L so it seems like they reported their volume accurately. The roll top can be expanded higher if needed.

  • @jakeells66
    @jakeells66 Před 2 lety

    Just an idea, idk if I would do this on a bran new bag but for your camera mount you might be able to cut the stitching making 2 molly loops now one big loop

    • @outerlimitless

    I have a relatively short torso, and my backpacking packs (to fit correctly/comfortably) are in the small to small/medium range of 15"-16".....would this pack be too large? I generally hate the "one size fits all" approach that non-backpacking pack makers have because the fit usually blows (and naturally they never have sizing info), but have been looking for something a bit more rugged in a mid size, well thought out pack.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 2 lety

      I think this might fit you about perfect. It's a touch tight for me... if you're medium I think it's likely going to be about perfect... just my hunch.

    I think that thing looks cheap cheap cheap
    No load lifters at all
    Nothing that resembles a frame
    For what they are charging for that I'd say there's going to be some very disappointed buyers out there

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  Před 2 lety

      There's definitely some carry capability questions in my mind as I mentioned a few times. The design on the whole seems sounds with my question being about the harness system which a agree is extremely important.
      However... if this carries well then it's a moot point. Time will tell!

    Hey bro. Yeah I just wanted to comment that most people don't like the color of the pack at all or their just not a fan. This bag copied the savotta jaakari pack pretty much all the way. I'm just not a fan of this pack at all. Especially the color is just ugh..and it's not American made which ud think he would of had it made in America, but all his products r china made. I own several things from Pathfinder. Their so so. They work that's all.
