- I've been running this pack for about 6-7 months. In this video, I breakdown what I like and a few things I would improve.

That’s a nice pack, would have liked that in my younger days. I travel as light as possible due to feet and joint issues, but I do enjoy seeing what gear is available.
Finding why works best for you I'd the most important thing.
Good review Paul. I like the roll top. Alot of packs miss that. One bag without pockets on the inside, good feature. The whole set up for under 200, and your stamp of approval I'd say it's a keeper. Thanks.
Excellent review. Right in line with my 25-30 pound load out. Good price point.
Really liked the reminder about all the pouches. I like that kind of organization. Great review. Thanks.
Very informative, good work!
I own this pack. I have taken it out on 3-5 mile hikes, up and down in terrain. I have mine fully loaded out for a 3 day hike weighed is about 42 lbs fully loaded with my bushcraft pack axe and also a silkyboy. I do have a small pack tent in place of the bedroll. I have found the pack to work for me wonderfully. I would like the side pouches if possible to be a little wider to fit my axe head a little better but it works. Have not taken on a 3 day trip yet but feel it will do just want I need it to when the time comes. Thanks for your review and also to SRO for putting out great products!
Great review Paul! I purchased one as soon as the production model was available. Have used it several times now and really like it. Rugged and well made.
I love mine. I have loaded mine heavy and light. So far of all the backpacks that I have used this one is my favorite.
Hi Paul!
looks pretty cool
Nice and simple pack. I've watched a few of your videos before. Good stuff man!
great video thanks
Looks very nice. By the time I saw that this pack existed, it was sold out. So here I wait.
I am 98% sure it's made by Savotta from Finland, I have their Jakaari S pack and it's bombproof. This looks to be equally as nice.
it’s available rn
@@gdmindset Ha, just ordered one. Cain't be too many left now.
@@kerrybay7995 right
I own the pack as well. As of now I have the “ basic class” load in it with a medium dyneema food bag with 2 days of snacks/food. It rides nice. My other pack I used before is a old medium US Alice pack. Definitely lighter, hopefully as durable. I think this week I’ll throw some weights in there and do a ruck and see how it fares. Great video by the way.
Awesome job 👍
Ordered one an hour ago. Thought the Jaakari was going to be 'the one', but I haven't been able to source them (damn you Finland), and the Scout just seems like the next level of the Jaakari anyway. Excited to get it in the woods for some serious wood-rat s**t. Great video, and I greatly appreciate everything/everyone SRO and Pathfinder. Ya'll never fail me. Prost, from CT.
Thanks for the review! By-the-way, Corporal Kelly sent me to check you out. Carry on, and keep up the good work!
yes, I want to buy one
Good info .
I picked it up. The goal was for it to replace my alice pack. which i feel it has. and i must say it carries better overall. been thinking of doing a video on my setup with it.
The only thing I would say is that, in my view, any good pack should provide externally accessible pouches for : rain poncho, navigation kit, small 1st aid kit, knife, sunglasses, tinder pouch and any kind of scarf / Buff / shemagh you may need real quick. This pack seems like it comes just a tad short of that, but the MOLLE definitely gives the possibility for it and even better.
G'day mate, I'm with ya. Everything dumped in together, like my wife's handbag, is definitely not what you want, lol. Cheers Duke.
I bought one of the first available....super well made...with that said it's not my perfect pack . I wish it was a little bigger....both in capacity( just a bit bigger) and harness( I'm 6'1''..240...belt is high on the hip and padding is short)..this pack is great..please don't get me wrong..and for the price...it's a steal. I love S.R.O...always will I think. This pack makes you choose wisely as far as what you carry....they are not joking...it's a "scout" pack. Just saying....buy it.
Yeah, this is far from my perfect pack. This is about as basic of a pack design you can find. I prefer a tad bit more versatility.
I like the pack a lot I bought one only thing I find i Pack heavy maybe 40 pounds pounds my shoulders start to have a lot of fatigue after A-day of hiking other than that I like the Pack maybe I should start minimalizing my gear.I'm new with this but have a lot of fun!!
Like your video Cool pack, glad you didn't walk around the woods for 20 minutes, with a selfie stick before talking
You never said if the pack is adjustable for different torso lengths.
Because of some issues I seen I didn't like on this pack.
I'll stick with my Raging River custom backpack. Mainly because I can attach what I prefer on the sides.
Plus, The Raging River backpack has as standard:
Axe holder
Two side pouches to carry long cutting tools and saws.
Plus if you ask, the lid can be equipped with a hidden zipper to hold maps and other small stuff in the flap.
All and all, The Raging River Backpack is a better overall bushcraft bag for those who stay out for several days to several weeks.
G'day Paul, thanks for your take on this pack, a fair assessment mate.
Personally I'm not a fan of dump style jobs. Clamshell with plenty of organisation is my go. Sleep system aside, with individual bags/pouches I always find the one you want ends up at the bottom, lol. and secondly, if a pouch is lost, its whole particular capability is gone. Far less likely to lose your entire pack and if you actually do, ....same end result. Thirdly, all those bits'n pieces pack down smaller, slimmer and potentially lighter, (not that I'm a weight nazi), lol.
I currently use 5.11s Rush 12 and Covert 18 depending on load out, with externally mounted FAK. Only downside I had to add a waist belt, (though is removable), and they dont come with a rain cover either, but as I carry a poncho that's no big deal, in fact its a better solution since rain water cant get between the pack and your back; and its a multipurpose item too.
Just my 2 cents mate, each to their own. Cheers Duke.
Very well done. Just now subscribed to your channel. I don't know how that's even possible. Thanks for sharing. If you need any graphic design done let me know.
Good review. I m fan of the Matilda bushcraft pack from helikon tex.
I've been interested in getting one of those.
@@adaptablesurvival did you ever get one?
I too have the pack. No complaints on it. but I think the side pouchs should have been stretcher if you know what I mean. And I love the loops on the straps. I put my hand in the table saw blade so I can't grab awhole lot.
Such mild winters in OH. The Adirondacks SUCK
Oh I know! The winter class a few years back was a beast of a time!
Looks great and I like the features included, how's the adjustability for height? I'm 6'4 so always wonder where the belt is going to line up
It might ride a little high on you. Depends on your torso length more so then your height.
I agree, I have packed too much stuff just because I had the the space.
Hey Paul when can we order these again? Great page by the way! Y’all at Blade Show this weekend?
Thanks! It's on the SRO website, link is in the description box. I believe the next shipment should be in sometime this summer.
I like this pack and i missed out! Sold out as quick as it came in! Been watching the website hoping they wpuld release more but i dont think they even plan on it. Its a shame! I do think the bottom front pocket shoulda been a small sleeping bag compartment with a separation to the main bag. Still very nice!
Only problem with having it as a sleeping bag compartment is it would lessen the main compartment. I do wish it was a molle attached pouch, instead of a sewn in pouch.
I would love to see this pack compared against the Savotta Jakaari M pack.
Sweet pack, reminds me of a Helikon-tex bag wonder if they produced it!! 🤔 great review anyway 😁✊🔥
Solid loadout btw all excellent quality gear!!😁✌️💚
I tend to over pack taking more than I really need.
Hey Paul, I see on your review you mention a hydration bladder space. However, no mention of a hydration port to run your water line through and out the pack? can you clarify/verify if there is a hydration port?
Hey Paul thanks for the info do you have the length with height of the pack and the waist strap is not removable is the pack long enough to fit around the waist or is more of a belly belt thanks
The belt rides around my belly button. I don't have the exact dimensions unfortunately.
Just waiting for this pack to come back in stock on the site 😭😭
Just resupplied earlier this month
Gran mochila.
I didn't see any food in the pack. Also, when loaded it chafes in the front of the armpit. I hope that changes as it gets more use, otherwise very uncomfortable.
what do you do for food?
Do you know if this pack is made in USA?? I’ve been trying to find out and no answers anywhere 🤔
I been looking for a great pack! I have my name in Self Reliance store, but when are the packs coming out again. Thanks for your time & video
I heard him say third quarter this year
@@zlot4hire thanks
It is advertised as being designed by Dave Canterbury on SRO website. HOWEVER this is clearly a rip-off from Savotta's Jaakari line of bags (I own the M model). Shame to promote this without givind credits to Savotta, man.
It's true this is very similar to the Jaakari packs. But where do you draw the line? Do I have to give every pack credit to another deisgn that is similar? I leave that to my audience, because I know they are smart enough to realize those similarities. I'm not sitting here saying one is better than the other. I prefer to give the experience with the product I'm doing the video on. There are plenty of videos on the internet that can give an overall picture of a product from every angle.
@@adaptablesurvival Many props for your realistic approach to A) your video review and B) you're response to F L. You are spot on with every word. Hoping to have the Scout in my hands by next weekend. Had been looking at the Jaakari for months, but, man, for the price and features, and availability, the Scout just seemed the way to go. Thanks again for the great vid and affirmation of the proper purchase AS.
