no for real, as a classics girly myself, the moment they dropped my man Captain Wentworth into their musty foreplay??? *electric chair* and the fact âwhatever our souls are made of...â is more affiliated with this franchise than the actual book it came from??? *electric chair, part two*
Ikr I hate how the author always associates her books to Jane Austen's books. Captain Wentworth's letter to Anne was so beautiful, it irks me when these people have the gall to compare themselves to such beautiful characters.
if it makes you feel better, i always hear it as "whatever as*holes are made of..." and i feel like that suits this franchise more, so i don't associate the actual quote with them
I think that the protagonist's hair is really important in a romance. That's why, I love productions like Skam where every detail including costumes and hair is great.
Your reaction to her bringing Austen into their drama was my reaction in book 2 when Tessa mentally equated Hardin with my main man Henry Tilney. I was like, "Bitch, no you didn't! And NO HE IS NOT!!!"
This reaction is really good with analyzing some scenes and trying to relate it back to the book scenes that you could remember. And yes, the smex is boiled water flavor at most. Not even vanilla đ I still wish they made Tessa's dad situation the stand alone plot of the movie; especially since they focused on it in the beginning. It would have been perfect to showcase the trauma and hurt Tessa is secretly bottling in, and why she went to Hardin in the first place (he acts like her dad so her mind is playing the "second chance to save him" play). It would also bring up some conflict between Tessa's dad and Hardin because the dad is actually trying to better himself to come back into his daughter's life, and Hardin feels like it should only be him in Tessa's life as a compensation for his trauma. Even Tessa starts to doubt the relationship with Hardin when she notices he is getting worse and more possessive of her with his isolation method. The book and movie had it in the bag, yet went with cheap routes for shock value đ Same with the infertility issue in the next book, yet the graze it over when it's a serious topic for some. Anyway, I'm still writing my fanfic of this series thanks to the second book/movie engaging me, and your videos along woth others helped me because I refuse to watch the movies in full and read the books in full.
Fanfic is called After the Fall by Reading_AJ on WP and AO3. Couldn't post it in main comment with YT deleting it, so hopefully it sticks here. Therapy and friendship arc is coming soon.
the hair thing has to be the most relatable thing I have heard about this series since your reading vlog. What's even funnier to me is that the the last few movies I was paying attention to Tessa's clothes because 1) the book described it a lot and I was wondering what they would do with it 2) i needed something for my eyes to focus on In all honestly your thorough toasting of the series should be the antithesis of "i watched x so you don't have to' In all honestly Daria, you are such an incredible human being. Coming back to your channel over the last year and half has brought me so much joy and love for literature. Hope your day has improved since this move, happy halloween! and happy belated birthday!
first of all, happy birthday (or belated birthday) and also, i have you sayâŠi admire you, you are brave my friend, because i would hardly get myself to watch a movie that i know i would hate. So prompts to you, Daria!
I don't think people underdtand that, if Jane Austen was alive and writing today, a guy like Harden would be the antagonist. Not the romantic hero. ALSO if the plot of the book/movie is so paperthin, the writers and actors better put 200% effort into creating amazing characters. If the story isn't plot driven, at least make it character driven. Sigh.
i have just watched all of your "battle of adaptations" and i don't think i can go on without you analysing the 1995 and 2008 sense & sensibility adaptations.
I wish I had just watched this review rather than sitting through the movie đ first video of yours I have seen and I didnât stop laughing, your points were spot on! Also completely forgot about that sexual assault story line, which Iâm glad they left out but should have had some scenes with the college crew like molly and Steph in as there is so no other character development in this franchise now compared to the books and doesnât feel like theyâre college students at all? Cardboard cut outs for the next film could be a better shout
I was hoping that scene wouldn't be in the movie, but also hoping because it would show Molly isn't a stuck up bish and actually defend Tessa, and showing Steph is really twisted which coincides with the Before book later on. But I guess showing a woman coming to the rescue of another doesn't hit the same as a toxic man coming to the rescue to redeem himself đ
Also Iâve read the books and I feel like youâre filling in all the gaps as you go. I donât know how this film comes across without reading them⊠surely even more confusing?!?
(This has kinda turned into a long ass rant of me gushing. Sorry lmao.) I just found your channel so Iâve been going back through and looking at a bunch of your videos, and Iâve heard you say 2-3 times you want to get more into adult fantasy. Iâm not sure if this first suggestion counts or not, but the second one should, and theyâre both fantastic so Iâm suggesting both lmao. I donât know if youâve ever read much of Brandon Sandersonâs books but oh my lord if you havenât you need to. Theyâre fricken amazing!! The first one which could be considered adult or YA honestly is the first Mistborn trilogy. (The series is split into two parts. The first set of three books are the beginning and the second 4, with the fourth one being released in 2022, happen 400 years or so later I believe. The first three are the superior ones imo, but the second set of 4 are really fun expansions on the world and how it was changed after the first three.) I had a friend suggest this to me years ago and I honestly thought he was completely overhyping it by how much he gushed about it, but I decided to give it a shot. Best series I have ever read in my life. His world building, character development, magic systems⊠thereâs nothing like it that Iâve read before. I read it three years ago (and read it three times in two months) and still think about it at least once a week. The second series I highly recommend that is adult fiction is The Stormlight Archive. It is going to be a set of 5 books with the fourth just having been released, and the fifth coming out around 2023. I have only read the first two so far as that was all that was out when I first read it, and theyâre such in depth stories I just havenât had the time to go back to it. The first book though, and itâs âmainâ character goes through some SHIT, and I remember reading his story play out (it has multiple perspectives, but his is my favorite, and I think heâs the main character. Each book has different perspectives, but his is in every book so far) and my mouth was just agape in shock at the trials this poor character had to go through just for trying to do the right thing⊠it was crazy. Definitely recommend that if you want to get sucked into a whole other universe full of insanely compelling characters, ideas, and magic systems. No one does world building and magic systems like Brandon Sanderson, and his character building is superb as well
The first movie had something going on...ish...then they started making things up and adding totally dramatic and unnessecary scenarios without even giving the characters depth.

I hate to admit these are my secret pleasure đđ. I love these films so much and I never read the book. I do not think toxic relationships are something to promote. I do not miss that relationship now , but I can reflect back and see so much. Itâs pretty on point on how those toxic relationships go. So ladies watch and donât be like Tessa đ

the thing that pisses me off with this franchise (movies and books included) is that everyone is siding with Tessa in everything. I get that Hardin is pure trash but Tessa ainât no innocent. Everyone thinks itâs normal for Hardin to give up on everything for her and if he doesnât, he is selfish. I feel like he is more in love with her than she is. Sorry he is OBSESSED with her when she, can literally go with every guy that gives her attention and I am not saying that she should stay with him. She shouldnât. She is just a terrible person who does crap as much as he does but he is getting repercussion when she isnât. Like at the end of the books spoiler he literally marry her, have kids with her etc when he didnât want to in the beginning because he canât live without her. What did she do ? ALSO, she literally, when her dad tragically d*ed, used him as a s*x toy letting him think that they will get together when she is not willing to. They are both horrible people and they shouldnât be together and thankfully they arenât real even tho I know that people like that exist
