What's you favourite race on The Grand Tour? 🤔
This one
The one in Switzerland. Not because of the crash but because the race is genuinely interesting
@@mohamadbbbb1611 same

Countach vs Testarossa
The older I get, the more I come to appreciate James May's perspective on vehicles. Reliability and comfort means a lot more than top speed that has to be tweaked every weekend and can only be experienced on a track.
Do you still believe in the fuel mileage alongside it though? Because you can get a really good fuel-mileage car that makes you feel good financially.
Yes, because James May is old, and the older you get, the closer to his opinion you are. 😂😂😂
@@Serby665 😂😂😂😂 Yeah
Jeremy doesn't seem to understand although he is quite old.
And yet, May's garage is filled by Ferraris. It's not sportscar are meaningless, it's that you are eager to rationalize the fact you can't afford one, like everybody else. Also GT cars are for long motorway trips. And impress girls. Go to a nightclub in Dusseldorf downtown, pick up a model and drive her to Montecarlo. You will find the rusty Renault quite lacking, in compare with the Bentley.
James May showing his genius once again. I completely agree with him, on the point he was trying to prove. I haven't seen this episode before. Thanks.
Not exactly real, Maybe there, but not in the uk🤷🏼♂️ that test wouldn’t work in the uk
@@R53.charlie I disagree my friend!
I have been saying this exact thing for years!
Drive like a lunatic and you might get to your destination a few seconds or maybe a minute or two quicker and in the proccess put yourself and others at risk, spend more on fuel and just prove what a dipshit you are!
I live in the UK and have witnessed this many many times in my 40 odd years of driving!
Peace bro.
@@natsterjam it depends where it is, and where you’re going, if you’re talking backroads, it makes a difference, motorways and dual carriageways, not so much, but then it also depends on when you’re doing the test, at 10pm, it’ll be a huge difference on a dual carriageway, but at 5pm it’ll be too busy to drive fast🤷🏼♂️
@@R53.charlie Sorry bud, my many years experience driving lorries, vans and cars for hundreds of thousands of miles all over our UK and 2 other countries disagrees with you. Back roads or not there is very little difference in destination arrival time what ever car you have, what ever you drive like. The traffic dictates the travel time and not the car type or driving style. Even if you attempt to drive like a speed freak and over take at every opportunity the travel time is ALWAYS pretty much the same. I get that when you say the over all time is influenced by time of day and road type but I stand by my experience, peace again bro.
@@natsterjam you’re entitled to your opinion🤷🏼♂️ I do understand where you’re coming from, but if you’re sitting at an average of 50mph on country lanes for 10miles, or averaging closer to 80mph for 10miles, it’d take 7.5mins rather than 12mins, as long as there’s no traffic around, or not much at least, there is a difference in time taken in my opinion👍
Abbie laughing at 0:49 is the best. They struck gold getting her on the Grand Tour. Glad she recovered from her accident as well.
0:49 for those who want the timestamp
And for those unaware of her accident, she broke her back hitting a sausage kerb at CotA.
I was absolutely heart broken when I heard about Abbies accident. I wish Abbie and her family all the best.

Really a brilliant challenge by James.
I love the superposition of a high production car show with relatable problems like driving on crappy roads and being stuck in traffic
But people buy fast cars to drive then fast. If you live in the mountain and your village is like this, which actually reminds me of Sicily, then an Aston Martin would be useless and nightmare to live with. The point here is that you buy a car for your needs, not for what your bank account affords. One can't also drive this Citroen off road, so why even buy a Citroen to go off road. Its simple, you buy what you need.
Well who really cares how these super expensive cars drive? If you have the money to buy you can try all and if you don't it is not dor you anyway. Same with hypercars, they can throw the usual metrics at you (power, 0-60, top speed etc) but you won't knoe what it feels like unless you try. And most people eill never try.
That's why Iike these type of videos better rather than some guy just babbling about 20 minutes how great it is. Also why I like videos like Doug makes, more interesting to see the finer details and interesting/strange ideas in these cars.
@@emiliospowerballer1441 And thus you demonstrate that you completely and totally missed the point. It is not that "You buy what you need" it is that supercars are only barely quicker than a crapped out old Renault, that a supercar is just as prone to getting stuck behind trucks and other vehicles. I mean, FFS, it was explicitly pointed out in the video!
Unfortunately, very few people really do buy the car of their needs. You only need to drive around almost any English village or town to see the number of expensive cars parked outside crappy houses because the owners believe that their cars are some sort of pointer to their personal character, rather than a demonstration that they are incapable of basic critical thinking.
@@davidcolin6519 And thus why I said 'buy what you need'.
All cars face the problems you just described, whether they be a 20 year old Renault or a brand new Ferrari. Different cars offer different usabilities.
I don't believe it comes down to peoples personalities when it comes to owning a car. Its ones budget which offers this flexibility.
Makes sense?
@@emiliospowerballer1441 Makes sense, but it really, really doesn't happen in the vast majority of cases.
Clarkson should have known better. He knows that rental cars are the fastest and so crappy cars are in the same category
Both Clarkson and Hammond would have known that May is right but just admitting that wouldn't make good tv
This is a great way to prove that as James May said the speed of travel is dictated by external factors not how much power does the vehicle have and I completely agree with him on that. I think that most cars like this in this film are made for making the journey more comfortable not faster beacase other than on German autobahn there is nowhere where you can use all that power (legally that is, illegally you can do it anywhere there is enough space and on tv shows )
Yep. It’s like that time on TG where Clarkson admitted the Porsche 911 was faster then Ferrari on public roads.
Great challenge by May
Except in America, where those speed cameras are banned and we can go as fast as we can until your caught and slapped with a felony speeding charge
@@dankykang7101 wait, why are speed cameras banned?
@@pauloj1983 who would ever vote for speed cameras?
Gee, I don’t know. Maybe people whose family members and children get killed by a speeding driver, but you know, freedumb and all.

Abbie's wall boop gets me every single time. Sublime production, this.
Hope Abbie is doing well.
She could probably beat these guys in a hospital bed.
broken
yea.
Get well soon Abby!
yeah poor thing was looking to be stuck in that body cast for a fair while. i hope she's coping alright
I wish her a speedy and total recovery. Being in that body cast must be miserable. Image being unable to scratch itches. That's torture, but Abbie is the resilient sort. She'll be back in the driver's seat soon enough!
I wish they'd feature Abbie more often. On the rare occasions they've given her anything to do other than just drive she displays a really good sense of humor which could definitely add to the show.
She has a broken back rn
I can't recall a single funny thing she said, if she ever said anything.
she has never talked in the show
It's nasty business her breaking her back but let's not pretend it makes her a better presenter than she is.
@@mofayer "I've raced against a few dicks in my life, but never on one."
Perfect real world race. I've had this argument so many times. Nice to see it demonstrated in a humorous little clip.
Same, I've been arguing that it's useless speeding on city highways because at most you'll make up 1min and lose it when you will roll up to a stoplight.
This reminded me.
I was once on a winding road in New Zealand. My friend was driving the two of us in her elderly Nissan Sentra. A "boy racer" flew by us in his tricked up Skyline. My friend, who has some car racing experience, said she could catch, and overtake, him WITHOUT breaking the 100km/h speed limit. I was a little doubtful.
Sure enough, on every bend boy racer slowed noticeably. Enough for us to catch up. Then he'd disappear on the straighter parts of the road. Finally, after about 15km, he didn't manage a particularly sharp bend and my friend got ahead of him.
When the road finally straightened he overtook us and disappeared. Not for long though. Going through the next town we saw him at a petrol station. My friend went and stopped alongside him and in a very cheery voice shouted over "good morning, lovely day for a drive". Silence and I do mean silence, from him. Then his two passengers, two women, burst into fits of laughter and yelled to him "go on mate, talk to her".
I wish Abby a speedy recovery, and wish we see more of her on Grand Tour as well as Drive Tribe. She's amazing. ❤️
I remember this challenge.
The torture poor Abbie had to endure.
Speaking of, I hope her recovery is going quick. Here’s hoping everything goes speedy and you’ll be back in a race car pronto. 💐
My first car was a minivan that my parents passed down to me. As soon as I could, I bought up to an older, lowered muscle car. Devastatingly faster. I thought I'd be able to get to work faster. Turns out it actually looks slightly longer, since the van could take bumps and potholes like a rally car, and the Dodge couldn't.
Been wanting them to do this for so long when they were in Top Gear. One person (most likely May) drive an old slow car, the other two drive fast cars. Race to a destination that has these exact everyday driving problems.
May would lose. He was lost....
They've done that several times before including through London several times.

Just remove the sausage kerbs and start actually policing track limits. How many time this season was only curtain corners had track limits mean while the others didn't. FIA needs to get their shit together for next year.

My first car (and some of the following) was an old Corsa with 54 hp. Not the fastest on open roads, but in heavy traffic it yelled at everyone else: "Get out of my way! If I want to switch lanes I will!" Worked perfectly. :D
I love the fact that after stalling it the first time, Abbie put her foot to the floor for the second attempt 😆
That's called: "Not Making The Same Mistake Twice" - something that the fairer sex is actually quite good at...
A while ago, I saw a similar race on Dutch television, where they had two identical cars start in the city of Arnhem to race to a finish about 50 km's away.
One car was allowed to drive as quick as possible while the other had to stick to speed limits.
The "slower" car arrived with a relaxed driver within about two minutes after the "fast" car arrived with a tired driver which really does prove the point that in the real world, it's just not worth driving fast.
Captain Slow bought the ideal car for Abby's part: very used, softly sprung with enough ground clearance, pretty narrow and just strong enough to make the inclines and the occasional overtake.
And - helpful as well - not tempting corrupt police.
I remember having a silver one of those USX898Y with a red interior, cost me £400 second hand. It had a dodgy alternator and bump in one tyre, quick trip to the scrappy and I was sorted. I ran it for 2 years then traded it in for a Renault 21.
Abbie had enough time in that 2 minute gap to take off her hoodie and still won
Heater probably stuck on lol

5:06 "Took 30 units of currency away and I now have this hat" 😄

Theres a lesson to be learned from this. My 2006 alfa 147, with 150hp and a top speed of 200km/h is faster on the roads i usually drive at, than all "super cars" combined. The only place i could lose on is a race track, which i have no interest or need to be on in the first place.
James May has proven his point. Hats off to that man!
This reminds me of one of my neighbours. We live in a zone a fair bit away from the city, and we mostly have these quaint, but terribly impractical cobblestone roads. VERY rough on the suspension, they are, so most people have 4x4s, but it doesn't do much anyway. And even so, knowing all this, this man got himself a Viper. His reasoning being that people would get sick of the roads soon and we'd get normal roads. Poor sap can't even use his car on weekends because his car is just too low and going anywhere with it means having to either scratch his car to hell and back, or go impossibly slow.
We need more Abbie in The Grand Tour
My father had a Renault 9GTL just like this one, same color and everything. And yeah, i drove it like Abby when i was a teenager. 😂

Omg, that Renault was my first car here in the USA aka Renault Allianze. We had it in the family with just over 310,000 miles until it got totalled in Seattle. It was a fabulous vehicle with just one clutch replacement .
It is facts that cheap old cars are faster in daily use. You can go through roads must quicker regardless of how bad the roads are, take greater risk since minor scratches and dmg isnt a concern and you can park the car anywhere safely.
