  • Underpainting sets up your canvas to better accept the paint in the next layer. It also makes it easier to model form and compare value/color.

your tutorials are so useful, everything else painting related on CZcams seems like it's geared toward beginners, then when artists get past that stage they feel like they have nothing more to learn. I've been oil painting for 10 years and have so much more to learn and your advice clarifies the process beautifully

THIS! You start a video thinking you might actually learn something just for them to start telling you what the primary colors are and how to make purple. I took every art class available in high school and none of them ever got past what a grayscale is cause they think that’s all you need to know. There’s SO much more to art

Ugly stage! When I lose all faith I can paint and have a mini existential crisis - thankyou for the reassurance! ❤️

To keep enough binder so the oil paint won't later flake off, what percentage of oil paint to solvent do you use?

I think that you can save a lot of time by transferring the drawing with a simple carbon paper.

It's not really faster and I'm guessing graphite doesn't stick to the surface very well and may cause problems concerning longevity of the paint film

He used an oil transfer, instead of carbon he used oil paint. Check one of his past videos.

@@jorriffhdhtrsegg Brilliant however completely irrelevant, we are talking about transferring a sketch from point A to point B.
