    TIP 👇
    You can unlink the connection between the arrangement markers and the regions.
    Just click the arrangement marker title in the track header and select "Suspend Content Connection".
    Now you can move things arround and delete arrangement markers without affecting the regions. Once you're done, you select "Suspend Content Connection" again and the linking is back.
    I find it quite handy if you want to go the arrangement markers route.
    My 2 cents.
    Great video, btw! I never saw the benefits of the simple markers workflow until now! 👏👏👏👏👏

    Greetings from the UK. I found your tutorials a couple of years ago and without them I would never have learned Logic so fast ... nor in so much depth and in such a short space of time. The original videos were brilliant but the new ones are even better, and great to finally meet you (visually). So, I just wanted to thank you; wish you a Happy New Year, and say keep up the great work.

    I have always had a bit of a problem with arrangement markers so this was just perfect for me to finally understand where I was going wrong? I will also just use the markers option from now on! At least now I know how to keep the marker info in the project, brilliant, thank you for another really good piece of tuition.

    One other good way to use the arrangement markers is if you put them in your song before you create a drummer track, the virtual drummer will adapt her/his playing according to the different arrangement pars. A bit lighter for the verse, a bit heavier and more complex for chorus and then again something else for bridges and intros/outros. You can see it demonstrated here: czcams.com/video/NWRZk53CWr0/video.html

  • @DavidRavenMoon
    @DavidRavenMoon Před rokem

    The best thing about using Arraignment Markers, is let’s say after your parts are recorded you decide you want another verse or chorus? Just Option-Drag that marker to the new location. It copies all the tracks under it! No need to select a region, copy and paste. It’s much faster. I’ve used this quite a lot.
    Also if you’re using Drummer, it will automatically change its beat for a chorus section for instance. I usually do that manually, but it’s very helpful when first fleshing out a song idea.

    Hello Josh; thanks for this one! Is there a way that one can reuse arrangement tracks/markers in another project? I do not know if such things can be saved for reuse, but it would be nice. For instance, there are reference songs that I wish to map arrangements of, then reuse in other projects. I've seen this wiht Ableton, but in Logic not so much. What say you? Thanks, sir!

  • @tendingtropic7778

    Great video. In this example, all the regions are cut/scissored exactly the same length as the arrangement marker regions. This makes it an easy example but it might be more difficult when regions overlap between to arrangement sections? how do deal with this? and second question: is there a shortcut to automatically cut all the regions in the project according to the arrangement sections?

  • @derekwgillard
    @derekwgillard Před rokem +1

    Two questions. I’ve always wondered if there was a setting to populate the arrangement marker list. I have to manually add solo and pre chorus and would like them in list. Also I noticed you have the menu called 1. I have that also and thought it was bug. Why is there a menu called 1?

  • @RileyMerlino
    @RileyMerlino Před 2 měsíci

    Thank you Josh! This may be a dumb question but what if I wanted to insert an intro that hasn’t been recorded yet? Should I just record it after everything and then copy paste to measure 1? Or can you insert a blank marker before all of the other sections?

    a faster way to end markers is command click

  • @ryanholladay5665
    @ryanholladay5665 Před rokem +1

    Is there a way to set the default length of a marker to something shorter than, say, the entire length of the song? I create large arrangements for podcasts that are upwards of 30 minutes and having to go into the marker list and reset the length each time is pretty annoying. Would love if it defaulted to one bar and then I can extend it as long as I need it.

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  Před rokem +1

      I wish Logic did it that way too. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to set a default marker length; however, a shortcut I failed to mention in the video is if you hold COMMAND and hover over the marker, you can trim the marker. So no need to go into the list editor for that.

    At 9:50, what is the benefit/purpose of converting a loop into real copies? I don't understand why that would be beneficial. Thank you so much for anyone who has the answer.

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  Před rokem

      Because if you want to edit one of the loops differently than the others, you have to make it a real copy. If you loop the loops without making real copies, you can only edit the first loop, and all subsequent loops will be the same.

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  Před rokem

      The tutorials in this series are most applicable to version 10.7 and higher, but most of the topics are still relevant for 10.5 and higher. Markers and Arrangement Markers are available in many of the older versions as well. Markers for sure have been around since before Logic 10, but I'm 100% sure when Arrangement Markers were introduced.

    @Tom-Studios Před měsícem

    How did you get this from Jono Buchanan

  • @ryanholladay5665
    @ryanholladay5665 Před rokem

    I assumed when you created a marker, highlighted it and went to Edit, the options would be to copy the content in the highlighted section. To me, that seems like what would be most intuitive. But no, you still have to manually move the playhead AND highlight with the locator region.
    (The answer I'll likely get is that I should use the Arrangement markers for this. Except that, with Arrangement markers, they must be wall to wall with no gaps in between, it seems. For my workflow, where I am arranging various pieces along to a voice over track over 30 minutes of time, I want to easily fly unconnected sections around that may have big gaps of silence in-between. I want to essentially be able to quickly copy and paste sections and fly them around.)
    Despite there being two marker options, neither one really can do this, can it?
    Finally, I saw someone comment that you can suspend content connection. I thought, "BRILLIANT" -- the ability to unlink one specific track, like a VO, from the musical content, is next level. Alas, this is not at all what it does and its a global feature. Doh! I guess Markers of all sorts arent really what im looking for to help me quickly arrange music for longer pieces of voice over content.

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  Před rokem

      If markers and arrangement markers are not working for your workflow, you might try grouping the tracks you want to fly around, so that the content stays linked, regardless of where the start and end points are located. I did video on this a while back here: czcams.com/video/PPiauT8U0kQ/video.html It's and old video, but it checks out.

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  Před rokem

      You might also try using track stacks. Even if you don't need a summing stack for your workflow, you can use a folder stack. All content on the track will appear in folders on the folder stack which, you can move around the timeline all at once. Another old video, but it covers how to use them, and is still relevant: czcams.com/video/8EaG2MmlutU/video.html
