I honestly really like the D series, they're super underrated And as long as you don't mind pulling the D series out and replacing the connecting rods you can easily push the 300hp mark which honestly is a lot in these little cars. But if you don't then you just have to be careful and try to keep it under 200hp ideal somewhere around 160-180 wheel to keep it reliable cause factory connecting rods are really fragile.

Truhart is TRUly the best bang for your buck, had their coilovers on my 04 TSX and although it wasn’t as comfortable as OEM suspension it handled like a dream around corners, my buddies were always amazed how it took corners especially with it being FWD

I can't imagine how much I'd have to spend for a good running trans and an engine rn. I went to the grocery store yesterday to purchase some eggs and a salad, and it came to about 25 bucks.😂

sounds like you're really excited about the turbo so i'd say go for it! personally id rather drive NA even with less power for performance driving but also totally understand that feeling of not wanting to throw out the engine and just wanting to tinker more. also down to watch shop upgrades too. i have to borrow my dad's garage to work on my cars and its a mess LOL

Honestly as much as a k swap would be super cool, Id love to not see this civic become yet another super tuned k swapped, expensive build which are quite common on youtube
Of course this is just a single viewer's opinion, but id love to see a more budget, turbo build with no swap

Hey buddy, I think K swapping the Honda would be a great idea, I know that you can get some good power with lil mods from those engines. It's easy to get to 200-240 HP from just k swapping. It might be the best option

You should do the Y8 head swap and boost it, so you get 127 base hp and then add the turbo! Thats a lot of content and probably a lot of fun too!
Kswap with a supercharger it’ll be around 250 hp not too much power but with that power the civic will need polybush front and rear subframe and other components will need upgrading
Boost it have fun with the d series and when all is said and done start with a k swap.
A N/A K20A would sound awesome

This idea is actually what i plan on doing to my 97 hatch.
Only downside to this, is the transmission....from what iv been told.
Love the videos, but that Honda is a great DD car and is a rare find. Built out for racing? Nope. As my dad would say, that's "roller blades on a refrigerator" (somebody thought it was a good idea, but just not practical). Best of luck on this and I look forward to you finding another 90's Honda to bring back!

Keep it stock bro! these lil engines are really fun to work on and you can get great results if you properly boost + tune em. personally i think you can have just as much fun with the d series as you would with a k series.

Tubro D series seems cool before the k series.
Craziest I’d go would be a B18C swap. Still get to keep the N/A aspect, but really nice high revving Vtec aspect.

Since the D series is single cammed,it’s still very reliable even when turboed, although it makes less power then a B/K series those will blow up faster since it makes more HP and are dual cams
Turbo the d16 I was planning to turbo my Civic I would like to see how you would do everything maybe I can learn e few new things.

Ngl the idea of exploring the potential of d series is pretty interesting. Provides an alternative to the typical k swap if you are not chasing high 3 digits of horsepower. Iirc myghtycarmods did the same thing on their EK civic earlier this year.
Edit: I think a mid 100s hp is good enough for a build like this.

the car is really great right now and im sure the suspension mods will take less emphasis on the drivetrain itself, but sometimes there can more to be desired tbh

Turbo the EK, get a OBD1 chipped ecu, get it tuned, and maybe you can alsodo a D series Vtec head swap onto the stock block, keeping the budget low.

Everyone is doing K-swaps, Id build the D series. They make great power once you throw forced induction and some upgraded parts at it

now this is a tricky one... i thought this civic project was supposed to be kept underpowered and "stock-ish". a fun car on a budget sort of thing. k20 is a great motor, but this car's just too clean for a swap to be honest. and about the D16 turbo, I'm afraid it would put unnecessary stress on this little engine. it runs well, it deserves to live on.
but in the end it's you who decides - it's your car after all. just wanted to leave some feedback :)

Have you thought about supercharger or maybe even a bore up , rod kit and cam improvements and then a tune up to increase bhp in an NA way?

I'm more of a purist so I like the idea of keeping it OEM+. But hey ultimately you brought the car back from being a biohazard and made it look absolutely gorgeous.
If you're gonna go for the power gains I think it would be pretty cool to do an AWD-swap and then turbo the D series. It's no k-swap/b-swap/h-swap but it'd be nice to have the main mods focus on the suspension and handling like you've been doing rather than gunning for more and more HP.
heck yeah i got a 97 acura ls sport and got a b18b1 only ugrades to the transmission n the clutch thats it does 175 hp so not too fast not to slow u kno

Electrify it! I saw a CRX with a Leaf EV motor and it's damn fast. It dusted the 370Z it was drag racing.

I think you should keep it stock engine. A K-swap and it becomes every other youtube civic that makes loud noises and becomes way to expensive for what a civic should be, not to mention losing reliability. Stock its unique and kinda cute, this lil civic that can offer cheap and reliable thrills without having to go dangerously lawless speeds. Still tho! Happy to see whichever way the build goes, you do great work! A boosted D would be sick! Unique and powerful

I feel like k swaps are a dime a dozen these days. What about a j30 swap? I've had both k20 and j30a (6speed) and I'd take the V6 any day.

Honestly i hope the d-series stays and doesn't go because it just tells u the personality of thee car, hope to see love upgrades not power upgrades to the car (edit: maybe save the money for the engine and do something else to the car like modernizing it for 2023, with a turbo)

Hmmmmm both 👀 lol jk. K swaps are great and from ive seen and heard dor getting more reliable power is going the supercharging route. A k swapped supercharger would be cool but im here to see where you go. Have fun with whatever you decide to go with either K, turbo, or supercharger!
supercharged K would be very spicy
Turbos on Hondas with VTEC is kind of boring and pointless IMO. VTEC is already a high rpm boost in power so strapping a turbo on just kind of defeats that. Do a supercharger on the D series! Almost no one supercharges hondas and getting that instant torque from it then VTEC kicking in at high rpm would be so cool!
