Coming from someone who drives a 98 civic. This is exactly why I will always baby my vehicle. She deserves to be treated right. I’ve known people who go through a vehicle almost every year. Simply because they don’t want to put the work in to take care of their vehicles. I do a deep clean twice a year. Fall and spring, but also maintenance clean every couple weeks. Vaccume, dust. My car will be running still when I have kids. And I plan to put the same amount of care into my Honda Pilot when it comes time to upgrade.

@@StaufferGarage are you able to change breaks, oil, and oil filter(maybe an air filter as well)? The bare basics might get you a good little chunk more in profit for very little added investment and very little extra effort(bating stuck tires, aluminum tims can be a bitch to get off sometimes lol) especially if you film proof of you doing the work. Could revenue polish dull headlights using your still and a polishing kit. The extra cost would maybe be about 250-350 bucks factoring in the polishing kit on top of the oil, breaks, and filter.

I'm a mechanic who also paints and restores cars, since i know everything i need about cleaning and stripping car interiors, one thing i never understood about professional detailers is why after so much work they don't remove the carpet and they insist on cleaning what i would have lit up in flames, the labor involved wouldn't be cheaper than a carpet pulled from the scrapyard that can be as low as 20$ and wouldn't look better than one either after the customer pays hundreds for an interior detailing. I've made many times the proposal of swapping a carpet for cheap and getting new insulation pads but never a detailer who gets a high price to clean something that needs to go. Another time there was a steering rack seal leak under the dash and after this extensive cleaning the car had a bold oil scent after citronella faded away, turned out when i pulled the carpet it had the insulation pads soaked into a huge oil pool. I've seen many cars shining and smelling fresh after an expensive detail to the extend of removing seats, etc and if you pull the door sill trim you'll find damp insulation pads, mold growing from underneath or behind the door panels, and a whole bucket of dust and debris that eventually starts coming out.
I don't talk specifically for the video poster where this car is his and wanted to flip it, but i see people run a business where swapping things for cheap would be more profitable and less labor intensive than getting money to deliver a hidden swamp with lemon cologne to whoever pays the price.

In the matter of fact i did not remove the carpet on my father's car and i have uploaded a video on my main channel "John's Crafting Lab" detailing it, because it's a car that moves workers and construction materials everyday which i wanted to look better for a few days, but if i was paid for this service i would do the complete tear down of the interior even if i would give it as an option for extra cost, most the detailers i know do not remove any panel or the carpet and some do, but all of them mention a "deep clean" and do not describe what they will do.

Mold and humidity is much worse especially if you don't remove the carpet to clean it and burn the insulation in a bonfire and install new one.

Congratulations on the flipping the car. As usual you did a great job detailing. Unlike most of the cars you work on, this one didn't have much wear and tear on the inside (i.e. no torn seats, carpeting).

A respray would cost the new owner a grand or so..and for that he has something that has 3-4 years of life in it and looks respectable. Yes new cars would last a decade or so comfortably. Still certain charm in the simplicity of the old school design.

It’d be nice if people included what they’d have to pay in taxes in their profit margin. No one ever does that.
We know that flipping cars for profit is taxable income so, it’d be nice to see how to factor it into one’s assessment of vehicles to flip.

Had a buddy put an open bag of sunflower seeds on the dash of my 99 Tacoma. Seeds fell through the vents and every time I turned the heater or AC on I could hear them dancing around inside. Took 3 years for them to all eventually find their way out onto the floorboard. Just a random thought this vid made me remember.😅

I would've used a steam cleaner on most of the plastic interior pieces. I'm assuming you don't have one because you would've been using it too.
It softens up all the hard candy stuff and kills all the bacteria.

It’s a good side hustle. I live in nc and legally your allowed to sell five cars a year as a private citizen and the cool part is they never ask or report the amount the vehicle is bought or sold for because they do the property tax based on the cars value according to some other resource like kbb or an insurance average so there is never a paper trail to how much you made 😅 i personally deal all cash and put it in my safe so Uncle Sam doesn’t know or couldn’t prove it existed😅😅
