Theo Fleury was in studio to talk about 'The Victor Walk' and his plans to raise awareness of child sexual abuse in Canada. Like many Canadians, he also loves talking hockey and in this clip offers his thoughts on the NHL lockout, his respect for players that came before him, how he burned through his NHL earnings of 50-million dollars, if he could make it in today's NHL and whether NHL players want to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. (Hint: they do!)

Theo is right on the money when he said he played in the best era. The 1980s and 1990s were unmatched in terms of talent. Now, like he said, you have 1 or 2 stars on a team and the rest are just there to plug holes. Interchangeable parts. It comes from having too many coaches (as Theo said) too many teams (watered down league) and the game itself is so lame. No more hitting, no 2 line pass rule which means nothing but bomb passes entering the offensive zone (zero creativity) and the passion and intensity is GONE. Coaches now all have a "system" and no player has a unique style anymore like back in the glory days. I'll forever be thankful my Rangers won in 1994 when the NHL was still at it's peak.
The 80s & 90s had the absolute best of everything. Movies, music, hockey, now everything is shit😒

He'll probably end up in the hall eventually. There are so many deserving players that came before him that it is just a waiting game. If anything holds him back, it probably is not his aboriginal heritage but his coke habit back in the day. He made mistakes so hopefully that doesn't prevent him from getting into the hall during his lifetime.

He was a great player but if he thinks its easy to play nowadays, he's nuts. I think he just chose his words wrong. Its waaay harder to be a 100 plus point player in todays game than it was in his era. Not taking anything away from those guys he mentioned. Just a different game now.
