Do You Fear Change?

  • Life is replete with change. Processes, transitions, maturation, growth and setbacks -- life is synonymous with movement, and movement is all about change. The journey of life with all its twists and turns, and ups and downs.

Why then are we afraid of change? And if you fear change it's inevitable that it will play a major role and impact every juncture of your life (whether you know it or not). Every transition from one state to another -- every new unknown -- will trigger fear and impede your progress. It will compromise your choices and commitments (how can I commit when I'm afraid of what will be?). And being that nothing in life ever stays the same, this inertia would be quite often!
Going even further, all growth by definition is a form of change; it's going out of one state, one paradigm and growing into another paradigm. If one is overwhelmed by change - this is preventing all growth in life.
We all have to thus ask ourselves the critical question. Do I fear change? And what can I do about it? Because if you don't mitigate it, this fear of change will keep you from making any move in life. Whether you want to grow and climb to greater heights, or whether you're stuck in a bad relationship, a bad job, a bad state of mind, your fear of change will keep you stuck in the status quo. (As they say: the known evil is better than the unknown one.) The fear will paralyze you and not let you move, not let you grow.
Please join Rabbi Simon Jacobson as he dissects the anatomy of fear, and specifically fear of change. Learn how instability, insecurity and lack of trust lies at the heart of the fear of change. By identifying its root causes we discover its antidote -- how to overcome and counter fear and how to embrace change in your life so that you can navigate the vicissitudes of life and be free to spread your wings, grow and be the best you can be.

Thank you kind sir, even though I’m Muslim, I have needed this discussion in my life. My parents where very good to me, too good. My father was very involved in my life, he planned everything, I feel like I have been living a program. My life consisted of studying, studying, and studying, after school, I’ll come home, eat, and then study with private teachers until, 10 or 11 at night, then sleep, wake up at 6, and do it all over again. I was not allowed to go on school trips, or to be in situations where I have to depend on myself, because my dad was too concerned about my safety, to allow me, to go out by myself. Now as a 20 year old, I have very little belief in myself, and my abilities to do something by myself, I fear sudden changes, where I am not in control, or I am not mentally prepared. I tend to come up with excuses to not deal with change. I have to find a way to gain trust in myself, I have to find tools as you said, to be confident. Again thank you for this video, and I hope for me, and anyone that is facing a similar situation as me to be able to find happiness, and be content with themselves.

Our Lord is the constant in our lives He's faithful the same yesterday today and forever He never changes
We don't have to fear change or look outside of ourselves to be comforted
The Holy Spirit speaks through us so we don't have to prepare what we need to say as long as we stay in the spirit we're always going to be good
Mark 13:9 But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them.
10 And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
11 But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
12 Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
13 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

Thank you so much! I stumbled on your channel because I’m interested in astrology and I clicked on your Aquarius video
but I really am struggling with a fear of change and a life that has a lot of toxicity that I’ve become accustomed to. This video has given me some inspiration and food for thought. Many thanks and best wishes to you 😊🙏

struggling many years with a soulless being in long term dv marriage that trapped me for over 20 years coercive control which has destroyed a once valiant, nurturing and capable of much and confident and trained in many practical skills and mostly understanding peacemaker, solution finder with humanistic kindness. In trauma to long and still to this day. It's nice to know someone understands.

Thank you. You’ve described most of my life. With my training/education, I’ve intuitively done most of the SPA work alone. Now, at 64, I fear fear after changing too many things right before lockdowns and experiencing several losses.
Where can I find the best community and mentor for me?
    Any suggestions?
Sometimes, I feel like I’d like to start such a supportive group and be a mentor but I want first to rebuild confidence and feel settled/rooted in the right place for me.

Sorry Rabbi, I have "sinned"....I am making this comment even BEFORE watching your video.
Yes, I fear change (In many regards I admit to being a "reactionary" or "conservative", and by nature, we are not the biggest embraces of change.)
I will take this opportunity though to quote Don Draper of "Madmen"....
"Change is neither good nor bad, it just IS".
Not very comforting.** But hopefully after watching YOUR talk on change, I will either embrace it lovingly and with enthusiasm, or at best, just shrug my shoulders and say "Meh, whatever" whenever a change occurs that I would otherwise lament over or try to fight.
**I will admit a character like "Don Draper" is probably NOT someone who should be quoted like he was some sort of guru. But he had said something interesting about "nostalgia" though.

Could you please discuss what's happening to the soul in the case
Of brain injury or dementia? How does this relate to free will and the souls journey? To me this is often seems proof of no free will or a lack of God.

I have found myself in a relationship with a Lutheran. I recently found God through very personal experiences with what I call the Divine. My girlfriend says Mysticism is not real / distraction from God. Being someone with personal experience brushing up against the Divine, makes me so confused why all these branches of Mysticism would exist within official religious structures if there wasn’t importance behind certain practices.
What ammunition could one provide to explain to another, that not all mysticism is new age psuedo-science? Since my experiences I feel the world is magical and alive, but not being firmly rooted in Church or Synagogue, I don’t have the right viewpoint reaching my significant other.

I have been in front of loved ones, having heartfelt conversation and the environment around morphs and I could feel and see winds rushing around us locked in conversation.
I had lost my ability to make decisions for certain lengths of time, feeling like my free will was extinguished.
Very mythological and spiritual narratives were standing out to my mind.
I felt guided by higher sources.
The world takes on a water like appearance and most objects flume.
Let god into my body and let him walk about the garden. Feeling empowered in my actions as I observed myself experiencing / doing things I felt I could not do.
