Thanks for the informative video Christian. I'm the owner of a new 2019 Jetta and have performed this surgery. Observationaly, a few caveats to anyone wishing to tackle this project. I would add (or caution) people re a few points who are new to (or rusty on) panel removal: First, I would employ the addition of a stiff, thin metal backing plate placed behind any pry tool, to prevent any marring / flattening when serious leverage is needed. I ended up "flattening" a few (albeit somewhat concealed) padded/pebbled black surfaces on lower bolsters. I have in times past used a flat steel electrical j box cover plate (filed sharp edges first then taped the edges with black electrical tape. In retrospect, I should have brought that out of retirement for this project, as the pry force needed was significant. Next: Use EXTREME CAUTION w/ regards of "where" you pry . I had an issue on the passenger side "latticed aluminum" (looking) trim piece, where I flattened/broke a few keyed alignment tabs. I also dislodged some rubber guide pads - and ended up with an inconsistent number of these rubber caps with regards to the number of tabs present, and "not knowing" which tabs needed pads and which didnt, i had to "punt". I did pry (additionally for more leverage) from the top of this panel too, which turned out was NOT a good idea! Re: installing and tucking the harness, my fat hands deemed removing 5 more torx (and the radio bucket) an overall easier task in terms of fitting things, and tucking the multi pin plug to the right. Re assembly, pretty straightforward, BUT, a few more cautions: I had difficulty with refitting the large, fragile, (and tab keyed) gauge cluster / radio bezel. It SEEMS I i wasn't paying complete attention and missed a key tab, going "over instead of under", when snapping this piece back into place, so now, under the radio, i have a slight mis-fit with what appears a minor "gap" under one section of the radio and this bezel. Also, i had not completely re-seated the bezel near the trip odo reset button, pushing this a bit more fixed that issue. Actual product review to follow soon. Jack (speakernut)
Thanks for the feedback Jack. I have to recommend against using metal to not mark up the dash. Usually the dash gets marked up when the dash is cold. Both the dash and pry tools do not flex at all in cold weather. If the marring up is a concern I recommend using a piece of cardboard but I did not have any issues.
Thanks to this tutorial I was able to spruce up the dash a little bit by adding some vinyl wrap to the shiny black parts didn't have enough guts to do the radio though!
VERY helpful! Be sure and use the plastic tools (I got them for $6 on Amazon). Be CAREFUL with panel #3 (the first panel he removes after moving the camera to the passenger side). I believe that one is the most difficult. I broke one T and two of the three shorter plastic clips. Look at the direction of the clips after he removes each panel. Also, be sure to pay attention to both his hands b/c sometimes he twists the panel but it isn't obvious b/c he's very good at it.
OK, job is complete. Like you, I broke 2 T getting it off. It was so type the broken piece was still inside the car. I had to use vise grips to get it out. I used a two part poxy to put them back on. The silver panel went on fine. Not as easy as the video for sure. Does make a big difference in sound though
Thanks this was a big help. Adding a amp line out, can i use same color wires for left right as the last gen jetta? Purple and green for speakers ( pos side ) red 12v brown ground. Still same?
I would recommend getting our break out harness for an amp. But do not power an amp off the radio harness. We do with a pioneer amp but its draws little power. enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_AAI4_VW16.html
I'm having a lot of trouble taking off the long silver piece on the passenger side. It looks like the little clips on the top are undone but it's not popping out at all. It's still very tight
I’m currently installing this upgrade on my Jetta r line but I’m really having trouble removing the long silver panel. I purchased all the tools you used in the video but I’m still struggling with that one long panel. I’m in Florida so the cold is not an issue. Any recommendations?

I don't really understand your question. But I think you are asking if there is an adapter to use the factory USB with an aftermarket radio. But since there are car functions on that radio there is currently no way to replace it.
any update on when the speaker upgrade vid is coming? I’m having my car done at the end of the month and I’d love to see your video as a reference since the car is so new
Man, I don't know how you popped those panels off so easily. I bought your guy's amplifier kit and tool set and am in the middle of working the project now... I nearly snapped the bone tool trying to get the long silver piece off and I broke 3 of its clips while doing it! They sure didn't make it easy to disassemble. I just couldn't seem to get the same leverage that you did...the panel (or tool) would just bend regardless of where I put the tool. Any recommendations?
Update: project finished. The rest of the process went very well with no further broken pieces. I used 2-part epoxy for plastic to fix the trim pieces and they went on just fine. Man, installing that amplifier makes a neck of a difference! Thanks for the videos and products!
@@christophertancrell6217 I broke same pieces as you did. Also used 2-part eproxy to fix and all went on fine. I do not see how you could get that thing off without breaking.
Some newer VWs do not have any stereo components in the glovebox. My VW does not have a CD player either. It has a SD slot, Apple car play, Android auto, mirror link and just plain Bluetooth.

Great vid. Helped a lot and I’m a professional installer! Props for keeping your vids real and showing the whole process even if it’s not smooth!
Thanks man. I try not to make things look easier than they are.
Can’t wait for a speaker upgrade video!!
Me neither. I'm still looking for a car.
thank you for being the first to do this!!
Thanks for watching!

Nice!
Hey man nice video I just got my 19 R-line 4 months ago. Im looking to upgrade the stereo
The amp is available. There is no dash kit for this car yet.
watched till the end btw!
I appreciate that!
Thank you we are painting the dash and didn’t know where to start. Not a lot videos o. The new jettas

I don't sell my tools on amazon. 😂😂😂 Good advice. I sometimes do things without thinking about them.
I can not get that silver piece off to save my life.

I'll see if I can reshoot that part next time I do an install in that car to help other people.
Thanks for the video

It might help if the car is very warm. Plastic is softer whenit is warm.

Sorry we get swamped during the holidays so I can't keep up with everything. I hope you figured it out.
Any idea where to find better wire diagrams for the 2019 jetta gli trying not to have to access the back of the radio
Unfortunately VW has become very secretive with their diagrams in the last few years. New cars don't even come with fuse box diagrams anymore.
Do you provide removal tools to help with the installment and does this upgrade work on the R-line?
If you are talking about our amplifier upgrade it works on all cars that do not have beats audio.

I would not know sorry.

I haven't even tried to take off the doors yet. It really just depends on how busy I am during each week.
Enfig ah no worries. will be looking forward to when you get a chance to take the doors off
Pat hasn't worked here in almost a year and I haven't had another customer that wanted speakers.
Do u have a video of how to remove the central air vents?
No we have never had to take those out for anything.
Can you post a video on how to remove the door panels please I’ve looked everywhere
I'm dying to do that video I just haven't found a local car that needs speakers. I even have the speaker adapters.
what happens if i have interior lights that goes on the dashboard
I have never seen that car before.

Hey is that a CD player at the bottom of the radio? Or is that the little bar that senses when your hand moves close.
That's a slot for an SD card.
Is there no SD card area in the glovebox, @@Enfig? Thanks for the reply.

If you are close and need help let us know.
Anyone have any ideas on how to add an aux input ?
There are a few USB to aux adapters floating around. If you still haven't found a solution let me know.
hi.. men . What brand is the stereo?
Sorry I do not remember.
Any idea if I can do the same process on a MK7 GLI with ambient lighting? I would hate to pop the trim off and damage the LEDS.
I haven't seen a Jetta that has the radio in the glove box. It should be behind the dash.
can you add the bigger head unit from an autobahn into this model
I do not know.
Is the 2019 Passat any different
I think they have different radios. Probably a completely different process.
I wish you would have fucking said you need special tools before the video started
Thanks for the feedback. I have added links to the needed tools in the descriptions of the video.
