A No Travel Advisory was issued for Rapid City, SD on Sunday evening as a potent winter storm impacted the Black Hills and surrounding area. A blizzard warning was issued for the nearby Black Hills and residents were encouraged to stay home and avoid travel. One pickup truck completely lost control amidst the heavy wet snow and slammed into a curb after fishtailing across the road. Local truckstops were packed with 18-wheelers as drivers pulled off for the night to wait out the storm. Local residents made the best of the wintry situation, using it as an excuse to have fun on 4-wheelers and other winter toys.
    Package includes:
Truck sliding out of control on roadway and slamming into curb
    "No Travel Advised" I-90 signage
    Snowy trucks at truck stops
Driver POV of snowy Interstate 90
Snow plows with flashing lights clearing I-90
Man on 4-wheeler drifting in snow

What's really bad is seeing all those Trucks parked. No trucks moving, means no freight or groceries being delivered. Plus drivers don't get paid while sitting still.

Agree. This was my 1st thought too. Sympathy for them. But also glad they stopped.

Yes but it's too dangerous to drive a truck and trailer with a load in these conditions. Empty we weigh 35k lbs when loaded 35k-80k lbs. The hwys were probably closed. That no travel advisory is what made most of them park it.

It's all about mass displacement vectors. Real speed 3 MPH Tire speed 120 MPH, in directed bursts. PROPERLY INSTALLED, TIGHT Chains and a bed full of snow would have helped. Any depth and he is done for anyway.

Who is dummer, one who drives a car in the snow, or one that drives a big, fancy, powerful pickup in the snow that doesn't use or have 4wd and no weight in the back?

people waiting for others to tell them what to do? No critical thinking can be dangerous

    • @earlmarshall6543

Precisely! Now-a-days people are too comfortable with the government and others doing the thinking for them. Even when the weather is good (let alone when it's bad) it's a good idea to have backup heat, water, food, and power (even if just to power a few lights). Plus having a set of snow chains or cleats in your car isn't a bad thing either. I drive across the country for my work, so being able to get from point A to B, C, D, etc. is a must for me. Weather it's ice, snow, sand, or what have you I have to be able to move to get to Buildings and residential homes.

Do residents run studded tires? If they do, is this how such tires handle slippery conditions? Having lived worked in the High Sierras, I installed heavy duty aggressive Campbell crossbar cleated chains on all four wheels of my four wheel drive. Yes, you must go slow. But it saves your bacon not ending up stuck, or worse in a ditch. Rescuing others made it mandatory, otherwise there was no traction.

Those plows Lift and tilt, if you tilt first the tips of the wings dig a trench in the asphalt and you spin.

2:15 If this happened in California, you'd have CHP pull you over thinking you're DUI & then give you a citation license plate obstruction.
