I was raised to be a gentleman, the strong, silent type, but always with a smile... I stay honest, sincere, and genuine about my feelings upfront, and never be deceitful about my intentions... When I came to the Philippines in May of 2022, I was used to the toxic response I would get when opening a door for a lady or giving a simple, polite compliment... However, that was actually appreciated by Filapinas, and I always get a smile and a "thank you", which is refreshing... Just be prepared because that demeanor, which is put down by many western women, is like a magnet for Filapinas! 😳😉😁

Pea, regarding people cutting in line, I don't hesitate to inform them where the line is. During the pandemic, I was in the line at SMHYPERMART and had been there for maybe 30 minutes. A man cut in line in front of me, and I told him the line was back there. He didn't like it, but he left when the security guard came over. Then, the Filipino man behind me tapped me on the back and said thank you. He made my day.

The rude behaviour is equally abhorrent and astounding to me. Being from the southern part of the US, it is our tradition to be polite and respectful to one another (in general). Here, there is little regard for personal space. No one holds the door for others. Filipinos drive their cars, trikes and motorbikes as if they exclusively own the road.
Once, trying to exit the airplane in Manila, a sea of Filipinos pushed and shoved their way past my aisle, as if I did not exist. (In the US, we allow those ahead of us to exit, and then proceed, row by row)(. At the opposite row was an elderly Filipino woman who also wanted to de-plane. Noticing this, I forced my way into the line, stopped the flow, and invited the woman to go ahead. She was stunned, but thanked me. I vowed that the first person who said one rude word to me would be subjected to a dressing down.
Worst example: during Catholic Mass (of all circumstances), the same horrid behaviour. It's supposedly a Christian country. Haven't they read about the last will be first, and the first will be last?
It seems that, in groups, the Filipino is just plain awful. One-on-one, they are sweet, kind, and sincere.
      Go figure!?

It is true. For the most part, foreigners are very honest and most the time, we don't care if it hurts someone's feelings. With my wife and me for example, when she serves me food, if I don't like it, I will tell her. It's not because I want to hurt her, but because if I don't like something, I don't want to eat it. If I lie and say it tastes good, she will make it for me again and again and I'll be stuck eating something I don't like. Honesty may hurt in the moment, but only if you see it as an insult rather than a way to improve on yourself.

    • @paulruano1903
      @paulruano1903 Před 4 měsíci +4

      Agree!.
Improvements are only achieved by honest feedbacks.
And how can a partner trust you, if you end up just lie to them repeatedly.
But offcourse has to be considerate in HOW to say it.
And still thank for the efforts. And maybe be lighthumour or smiling or joking or whatever which lightens the mood so it does not feel like a "punch".
Can even help in the kitchen together to tweak and improve recipies. While flirting some etc:)

It’s also a simple thing that you don’t like. It doesn’t mean it’s not good. You have your preferences. There are certain things my wife loves to eat that I just simply don’t like and other things she doesn’t like that I can’t get enough of. To each their own. If she likes something she prepares it for her and she prepares something for me that I like. The ONE fruit I don’t like she eats and gives me the ones I like.

There were pretty good compliments, no complaints there of course.
The annoyances weren't too bad. I get the organization thing. I lived with a Korean woman years ago. When I did dishes I put them in the same cabinet from which they came. She would put thing in a different cabinet every time. So there I was searching every cabinet until I found what I was looking for. Same with tools. Every woman I dated that borrowed my tools, that was the last time I saw them. So I bought every gf her own tools. If she couldn't find them, that was her problem. Organization is a great thing. My son has the same problem with his filipina. He hasn't learned to buy her tools of her own. He'll learn eventually, or keep losing tools.😅😅

That is basically meaningless because what is even a "foreigner" after all? We are talking about anyone of those 194 countries besides the Philippines in the 195 countries and territories recognized by the United Nations. But I know, by "foreigners" you just mean western foreigners and WHITE western foreigners. Even so we are talking about too many different cultures here. For instance, one of the questions raised is that if the Filipinos or the "foreigners" talk louder in public spaces. A Swedish or a Fin would be very quite. An Italian probably would be more boisterous. But I know we are NOT only talking about white western foreigners but about the TYPE of white western foreigners that generally goes after women in Southeast Asia. The pool is quite more restricted in this case, because they are in general quite... peculiar. Not even a good representative of the West in general. But still quite a lot of different cultural background.

15:23 Sweet food - I find the sausages in the Philippines to be kind of odd that way. In the USA sausage was more salty sometimes a bit spicy hot (i prefered less spicy though). Cumin was one of the most common spices for sausages. When I came to the Philippines it seemed like the sausages were just loaded with sugar.

I was always taught to open the door for others (regardless of gender). It totally throws my Filipina wife for a loop when I open the car door for her. For a lot of western guys I know who are also married to Filipinas, old-school chivalry is a sort of love language for us. We're treated so incredibly well by our Filipina wives, that something as basic as opening a door or holding an umbrella over them in the rain is just a small way of saying thank you for the amazing way they treat us.

This is an essential video for those of us, who sincerely care about how we are perceived as Guests within another person's Home. It would seem as though most of this is common sense but upon reflection it also shows areas where we can all improve. I strive to especially improve in the areas I am lacking because just as the people we encounter overseas are representations of the places they reside in, we are also representations of the people and places we left. For a lot of these people we meet overseas, we may be the only nationality from that country that they will ever meet. We can dispel some of the myths and stereotypes people see within movies and television as well. First impressions are always lasting impressions. Great Video, Pea. Hi Pea!
Good episode. You had very nice girls today. :)
I specially liked first girl, and also girl that is most annoyed with frank and honest from foreigners. Both girls had flower. I think orchid. Probably they got it from market behind them. Speaking of market it looks interesting, maybe you can cover it in some episode.
But back to the girls. It is not only the look of the girls I like the way they talk. Probably that makes them even prettier. 😄 I know that sometimes when some of your guests are very popular you invite them for other video. So this time my voice goes to two girls I mentioned, or at least for first girl.
About annoying things I am guilty for few, but I see only one as my flood. It is loudness. Some times I speak to loud. My girlfriend says: "To much loud your voice." 😄

@PaMuShin Yeah, that makes sense. As I understand it, even though Filipino/Tagalog is the official language of the Philippines, it isn't the commonly spoken language of the Visayan region. They were walking into a Waffle House (restaurant) and not only did not hold the door for the pregnant lady behind them, but PURPOSEFULLY closed it so she would have to pull it the entire way herself. Being retired Military, I was very upset with them, and they left in a huff. The manager of the restaurant decided to dress me down and kick me out. I wrote their corporate HQ and found out years later that she had been fired immediately after my letter to corporate. Opening doors? Watch what they do when the 90 year old woman (or man for that matter) approaches the door. What what they do when the pregnant lady approaches the door. THAT will tell you MUCH MUCH MUCH more about them than watching them open the door for you..."

The Filipino Pea Your content is excellent I love this topic because it's good.To know the difference between our 2 countries and the 2 people and the main thing is to respect each other. And get to know each other and what each other needs in a relationship and give it to Each other It's important to respect someone else's time. It's important to respect other people's culture.
We're all on different times would do things differently. It's important to know that and know it will not probably never change. Being on time is a very big thing for me. But if I'm with someone that is not on time, I have to adjust that too if I'm in the country or whatever you know, it's just something you have to do now. If you're going to work, you need to be on time. You know and depend on where you are if you're in the philipains. Just fall in love with everybody else. Does whatever they do? You do if you're in the United States. Depending on where you are just depends on what you're at. That's all. I can say just be respectful of each other and traditions in. How things go and everything else will be fine. We can be different and still make it work. That's what makes life worth living is you know. Somebody, if you're being somebody has the same tracing you, it wouldn't be as fun. You also might as well have a different so you can learn from them and make them learn from you. That's what makes that's what makes the world go around Filipino One more thing before I go. It's so good to have. Someone actually loves you like I feel like a Filipino. Does and have enough water that loves you as well? That's faithful and loyal. Those are the things that bought you 2 together. And that's what we'll keep you together and your faith in God. With temperatures over there in the upper 90’s (Fahrenheit, close to 40 degrees Celsius) you always seem to look amazing Ms. Pea. I’m hearing a common theme here: happy, loyal, gentlemanly, good in bed, have “big feet”, on time, etc…. The whole not afraid to speak their mind, yea I can see that too.
The dislikes, yea I can see that too. Impatient, workaholic, arrogant. I’ve had to check my impatience plenty of times. Stop and smell the roses and touch grass. Same with working. I am a workaholic. Arrogant, yea I know plenty like that. Too organized? That’s a new one but I see where she’s coming from. Love fried foods though in other matters I’m a picky eater.
Too blunt: yea I see that. In my experience with Filipinas they are oftentimes shocked at how blunt and direct I am. And in fairness I’ve seen Filipinas hot tempered too. Anyway I’ll leave it there. Good things and Very valid critiques.

@@TheFilipinaPea I got the Tampo several times from my Filipina immigrant in the USA after I casually shared "private" information about us while we were at family gatherings. My bad. (For newbies... Tampo refers to a range of Filipino cultural behavior in which one may withdraw affection or cheerfulness from a person who has hurt one's feelings. Because the behavior roots from Filipino culture, the term has no English equivalent, but "sulking" or "to sulk" is often considered the closest translation.)

As an African American man in the US, it is nice to hear that Filipinas like a man who's confident, let you know we are interested, and not shy to tell you we think you're beautiful. In the west we are viewed as aggressive in approaching a woman. I'm guilty of some of the complaints especially being brutally honest and somewhat hot tempered.

    Great video!
I've never been to the Philippines, but as an American who spent a couple of years in Latin America, I've heard some of these things. I like to approach cultural differences more from the angle of, "What is something that I can learn from these people?" For example, I know that most Americans (like you guys talked about) very much believe that time is money. So we generally hate wasting other peoples' time; that's a good thing. We also don't want other people wasting our time either, and that's not bad, but one thing we Americans could learn from some Latin American cultures (and apparently from Filipinos)is to use more tact and diplomacy when someone is trying our patience, or to lighten up a little about time when experiencing a culture that values life enjoyment, relationships, and human interaction a little more than efficiency.
This approach can help Americans enjoy their time abroad more and can help us avoid offending our gracious host cultures. ❤
