🏆 INSIDE THE STADIUM WHERE CELTIC LIFTED THE EUROPEAN CUP!!! Lisbon Lions 1967 (Estádio Nacional)

- On 25 May 1967, Celtic Football Club defeated Inter Milan 2-1 at the Estádio de Honra (Estádio Nacional) in Lisbon to become the first British football team to lift the European Cup.
I visited the exact site at which Billy McNeill lifted football's biggest prize. There's a plaque at the stadium to this day to commemorate the Lisbon Lions who were lead by Jock Stein and had stars like Stevie Chalmers, Bertie Auld & Jimmy Jinky Johnstone.
Celtic fans... you HAVE to visit this place one day if you haven't already!

Is this the biggest achievement in British sport history?
Problem
Probably
Yes especially when it’s won by 11 Scottish local men , will never be seen again , really impressive 👏, also nice video
Nothing will ever come close 🍀
@@JustinGardinerx exactly mate , and a don’t know why I’ve no subscribed to you yet 😅HH
This is an incredible vlog Sam. My dad is currently very very ill and probably hasn't got long to be with us. He went to school with Bobby Lennox. Bobby Lennox and some of the 67 team came to Ardrossan to visit his dad (my grandfather who I never met) in 1968 when he was dying from cancer. It was the moment of his life. My grandfather was a prolific writer and one of his letters to the Glasgow Herald was printed about Celtic's shirts not being visible due to the hoops. He recommended numbers should be placed on the shorts. They were soon after. He never claimed the fact they did put the numbers on the shorts as fact but he always told the story. Anyway, I will play this video to my dad tomorrow. He will smile from ear to ear. Thanks Sam.
Bet he has many a story hail hail
what a wonderful story and i’m sorry for the loss of your grandad, he’s lived a good life meeting the 67 squad seeing celtic lift that cup. he’ll be having a hall up there with legends who’ve worn the hoops HH 🍀
Hello, sorry I’ve only just seen this comment. Thanks for the kind words and I’m really sorry to hear about your dad.
The story of the Lisbon lions is an incredible one and the one about the numbers on the shorts is great too!! Bobby Lennox sounded amazing by the way. I still need to see his statue actually!
Thanks again and I wish you and all your family well.
Celtic squads through the years would always come and do training camps along the road from me at Seamill Hydro!!!
Thanks for the video, I am a rangers supporter and remember the day as an 11-year-old boy jumping about our living room screaming with joy when the final whistle blew and a Scottish club had won the biggest European club competition before any English club had, well done the Lisbon Lions. it is certainly something to be proud of for a Celtic supporter
Respect, my friend
Wow . just a genuine lovely football fan. Cheers.
👌
Nice story. My dad is a Celtic fan and his best friend was Rangers. There is world away from bigotry and hatred and fans from the two clubs are often pals despite what is written in the press and on websites. Remember Rangers v Marseilles in 1993 and we were desperate for the the Rangers team to go through to the final.
Don’t know if you should be celebrating that mate
The finals of the Portuguese Cup are in Estádio Nacional like in England are in Wembley or in Scotland are in Hampden Park.
The stadium is pratically the same as when Celtic won the European Cup, but it didn't have seats or artificial light that time.
And the stadium had only minor renovations, not for lack of money, but because it is a monument to a period in portuguese history. There is even a discussion about whether the cup finals should be held in there because of the lack of security and conditions, but it is still the stage for the finals to this day.
There's also the Leiria stadium
Love it Sam. Even as a Hibs fan, the magnitude of Celtic’s victory is not diminished over the years. Huge piece of Scottish and European footballing history and the truth is that we all owe Celtic a huge debt of gratitude. Super video…..most enjoyable viewing. Of course, we were the first British club to play in Europe 😉
And we owe our existence to Hibs who showed the way in founding clubs for Irish communities in Scotland. That won't be forgotten.
Two in one day again. Top man!
Legend Ross cheers mate!!!
As a Celtic supporter, this is on my bucket list to do .thanks for posting
There is an interesting story on that stadium, every year Portuguese Cup, the final is played there, it is amazing because of the history on that stadium and it is played there since the beginning. The location is perfect because people spend the day doing barbecues on the park and then walk to the stadium. The atmosphere is amazing! You need to go to one of those matches or search CZcams videos about it, it is worth it! The problem is that the Federation is moving the cup to Coimbra stadium because of the age of the stadium
Wow Sam....When you actually showed the moat the Celtic fans crossed to get onto the park after the match and you got to the part where Billy woulda lifted the trophy...i actually teared up...Thanks Sam..Great videos mate.
La semana pasada estuve de vacaciones en Lisboa y visite el estadio nacional, se ms saltaban las lágrimas...
Im not a Celtic fan but get emotional watching anything to do with them winning the European Cup, especially that image of Billy McNeil raising the cup over his head. I get the same feeling whenever I pass the statue at Celtic Park 😏
I was there today with my family and loved it all. In the changing rooms along the tunnel, on the pitch and in the Stands .The security guard was so accommodating. Special day
Re Benfica vs Torino (“Grande Torino”). Torino played the match vs Benfica - and it was when travelling back to Torino via Barcelona that the Superga tragedy occurred. Included Valentino Mazzola, the hero of the era. His son, Sandro, played for Inter in the 1967 European Cup Final.
Amazing.Good to see you talk up Scottish football. Do it more so than some Scottish journalists
On July 24 1999, when Portugal was bidding for EURO 2004, 34 000 people gathered in this stadium to form a giant human recreation of the bid logo and I was one of them. At the time it broke the Guiness world record for the biggest human logo and the advert with the most extras.
Brilliant video .Will be there with my 2 sons Paul and Craig on may 25th waited 3 years to go because of covid .I was 7 years old when celtic won the European cup I can't wait it will be some experience
You need to see the last portuguese CUP final played on this stadion.sporting Lisbon agains CD Aves. One Of the best teams agains a small vilage with 3000 people. Was One Of best days Of my life. Agains all we win. And now we are the gratest village Of the portuguese Soccer. Beautiful
Like you I´d like the old stadiums to remain as they were. History is in the blood and can´t be bought for all the money in the world. Super video!!
If anyone hasn’t seen the Celtic vs inter Milan European cup final then I suggest you go watch it, some of the best football you will ever see in your life Celtic are relentless in that game
If you want to go to the stadium do it soon, they are planning a £25m refurb soon (within the next year). I was there February 2024 and it is such a special place, as a fan it it is incredible the feelings that it generates. its a bit out of the centre of Lisbon (about 10-12km) but the taxis are reasonably priced. I think they call it Estadio Jamon as it is in the Jamon region. When we got there another couple from Cumbernauld turned up and we bunged the security man to let us in to take some photos, he also opened up the locker room that Celtic used. only had to bung him as he was the only one there at the time or we could wait till the other guy came off his break but we had a taxi on the clock. Well worth a visit for any Celtic fan.
I love your enthusiasm about football as a sport in general and how you are able to enjoy all clubs in an impartial way! I'm a Sporting CP fan and love listening to you talking about my club or even about Porto, Benfica or any other club really! Just knowing a complete stranger to our country enjoys our culture so much brings me a lot of joy :)
I hope you continue to enjoy your trips around Portugal and much success to you and your channel mate!
I’m a Rangers fan and I was at Estadio Nacional in September 2017 with my Celtic supporting dad as we were on a cruise which stopped in Lisbon and he never ever thought he would ever get to see where it happened
Celtic the only football club in European cup / champions league history to win the tournament in a Public Park
Better than getting presented a European trophy in a cupboard.
Going to Portugal next week and can't wait to visit here so much. As a celtic and Scotland supporter really proud of Scottish football no one gives it enough credit
I’ve just done it while I was in Lisbon, the security guards took time out to talk to us and show anything we wanted to see. Incredibly emotional stuff.
Very unusual design of the stadium, having the open side along one long side of the pitch.
Also, “il Grande Torino”, the great Torino side of the late 1940’s, played a testimonial match here for a retiring player; it was their last match as on returning to Turin their plane crashed into the mountain with a basilica on top, due to fog; all aboard, including all starting 11 of Torino, died in the crash. The Torino coach was waiting at the Milan airport thinking that the pilot would go to the alternate airport due to the fog. (The son of one of the players would go on and have a great career in his own right later.)
That Torino team was so dominate in the Italian league they had started all ten outfield players (other than the keeper) for the national team! It is still revered today as one of the great club teams, not just in Italian history. (Worth looking into for a future video)
Yes. 👍
Sam, what a great video. Really enjoy your adventures! Keep up your GREAT work ! From a follower in San Francisco, I’m a Juventus fan.
Great video Sam. Your enthusiasm for the game is excellent, looked so excited to be there. Thanks for all the coverage you give to the Scottish game :)
Another brilliant vlog they are just getting better and better also good to see how far the channel has grown keep up the great content 👏
I was there last week! Amazing place, such a historic venue and you can actually visualise Billy lifting the cup!
Great video Sam! Keep up the good work…your passion for football really does shine through on every video.
Amazing stadium and Carlos the security guard who let us in is a legend! And Bobby Lennox STILL lives in his home town Saltcoats where I was born too. There's now a statue of Bobby in the town.
Regardless of the sporting history of the Estadio Nacional, it has to be one of the most beautiful stadia in football. Great video as ever thanks!
I took a trip there last year when I was in Lisbon but unfortunately I wasn't allowed in because of renovation being done on the stadium. But I remember the conversation I had with the taxi driver on the way there, when I asked if he had a lot of fares from Scotland making the pilgrimage to the stadium his reply was "yes, you're all crazy people...but I understand" 😂
That was brilliant mate really enjoyed it , thanks for sharing
This stadium is defo on my bucket list
Brilliant video Sam, your passion for football really does shine through. Excellent that you managed to gain access to the stadium, if that was in the UK no doubt you would have had to pay a ridiculous overpriced fee to get in and probably had even less access than what you managed to get. Keep up the great work 👍⚽ P.S you support the right team in the mighty reds as well 👍🔴⚽
Another amazing video Sam as a Morton fan loved this video and yes what an amazing achievement by Celtic also great seeing the Celtic fan visiting at the end keep the amazing videos coming great channel and take care.
That was tremendous mate !
To see the stadium from new angles really gave me a sense of it’s uniqueness, an atmospheric place for not just Celtic fans, but, the cup finals thing I didn’t know about.
Obviously, we remember the imperious image of Caesar lifting the trophy on that stone structure, but you gave us a bigger picture, many thanks, Sam.
Did I hear “ Parkheed” lol
another great video Sam. Your enthusiasm for football is infectious! Keep up the great work!
Love your enthusiasm mate it is infectious.yet another great video.keep up the good work
When I was in Lisbon a few years ago the taxi driver told us that that stadium wasn't there any more. Was gutted when I found out it wasn't but its on the bucket list for sure
Great video! Just finished the Porto vlog and now on to this!
This is why we love Footy!!!!!
The Mighty Glasgow Celtic. Great video and many thanks for sharing it.
Amazing mate love your enthusiasm what a brilliant video and what a beautiful stadium without doubt the greatest achievement in football history HH 🍀
Great video! Enjoyed it a lot.
Class video from a classic stadium. Well done that man!
One vlog, and asa bi-product, a bucket full of interesting comment stories; wonderful.
I watch and enjoy all your videos Sam, but this is REALLY the sort of vlog that i enjoy the most - I think I discovered you through your "abandoned" one of Killwinning Rangers old ground. I felt your thrill at being at the Estadio Nacional and thought at one stage you might explode with the excitement ... top man !
Actually it was the Rosyth one I saw first, but both were good ! Hooked ever since ... ;-)
Your enthusiasm is infectious bud😂well done another great video Sam😉🙏🍀HH🍀
Loved this, you should go back one day for a cup final match day vlog!
Would be really cool if you could do a video on the old Munich Olympic stadium which hosted the Champions league final in 1993 and 97
Another great vid - we visited here during Euro 2004 when it was England’s training camp - kinda like you, no idea of the history until I googled about it later and realized the Lis on Lions link!
Sporting CP supporter here, I love that stadium!
It's manly called Estádio do Jamor as well (estádio nacional is correct too)
Great video 👏👏👏
Great video Sam, a bit of football history that I knew of but I hadn't seen inside the stadium until your video. That is Celtic's European Cup done and you have probably visited the Nou Camp where Rangers won the Cup Winners Cup in 1972 which leaves Nya Ullevi in Göteborg where Aberdeen won the Cup Winners Cup in 1983
Indeed, I always remember that game, was outstanding!
Egg Cup …..😡
I need to go here someday soon.
Was in Lisbon on holiday in 2002. But amazingly never took in the stadium, as I believe it is a fair bit out of town.
Loved the video, your enthusiasm really comes through!
Great Video again Sam . You should go to the Stadiums were Liverpool , Notts Forest and Villa Lifted the European Cups as well back in 70s and 80s .
Have been and retraced that journey you took up to the trophy presentation area. ( great video of Cesar doing the same a good few years back and reliving it all ) very emotional, 👍🏼🍀 worth a look great video mate , capturing your emotions of it .
I sang the celtic song in the tunnel the same as Bertie did . Thinking of past family that could only watch the final back then on a black n white tv . A club like no other indeed 🍀🍀
Lovely, this... Peaceful.
Makes me want to go.
And….what a beautiful stadium!
Hi Sam great video was going to lisbon to visit the stadium when covid struck us can't wait to go there it's every celtic fans dream the holy grail if you like take care stay safe m8 👍
Great video...thanks for posting. The dugouts were on the opposite side of the pitch back then in front of a temporary stand erected for the press/media but apart from that it still looks the same.
Good film mate yeah am desperate to get there “ in the heat of Lisbon “🍀🏴🇮🇪
Thats a great video, what a stadium, love that it hasnt changed 🍀
Class video mate. Visiting this place is on my bucket list as a Celtic fan 🍀
I played in that Belenenses stadium, i am a huge Benfica and Celtic fan. I love your channel. I hope we can talk about our stories one day
Just stumbled upon this... Great video mate.. Yep, don't think there will ever be another 'local' team winning such a big prize??? Also remember the WAY we won it, with style and a cavalier approach to every game no matter who the opposition was?? 👍👍👌👌💚
Your videos is what keeping going everyday
Best video yet mate I’ve been 3 times and get emotional each time knowing my granda was there on the 25th may 1967 cheering on the bhoys 💪🏻🏴🇮🇪 YNWA
🍀💚🍀 🏴 🇮🇪
Brilliant video. What a ground - as you say, hardly changed in 55 years.
Just love your enthusiasm, knowledge, and the love for the pureness of the sport, for what makes it great. I'm a Sporting CP fan, I had no idea about that Celtic history at Jamor, very cool. Hope you come back one day again, would be great if you could watch a Taça de Portugal Final there. And as a Portuguese, I can only hope the FPF stops with the bullshit and brings the cup's final to where it belongs.
Brilliant video the stadium still looks fantastic 🍀
Would love to watch a match at this stadium one day!
great vid mate...
I try to watch as many of your videos as possible,,, but this is by far your best one so far. It's nothing to do with the fact that I'm a Celtic supporter,,,,, honest 😉
European Club Footballs Highest Achievement …..Only the Best Win it ….. ☝️ ☘️ 🏆
Class video mate
Sam, look up the Superga plane crash - the entire Torino side was destroyed. From an Italian perspective it's right up there with the Busby Babes.
Your enthusiasm is infectious keep it up hail hail
Went there in 2012 me and about 7 others the day after we played Benfica so it was just us there it was amazing
Footy adventure = coldest baller 🥶🥶🥶
Great video
I visited the stadium in 69 during a school cruise. It is a unique stadium with the teams coming up from below the pitch. We were all Rangers supporters but still appreciated the setting and history.
Excelent video as always.
Are you going to see Benfica - Vizela?
I visited this stadium in 1965, & what I remember was there was no actual seats, just big concrete steps for fans to sit on, & also on the far side no stand just tennis courts
Unfortunatly since COVID the cup final has been played elsewhere. For a long time the portuguese federation wanted to get those games out of Jamor (the other name for the Estádio Nacional) because of security reasons (the stadium is old and needs some improvements). I hope we can see many more games there, so many history, great players, great games.
Amazing, please do keep hitting us in the face with some facts, great videos!!
portuguese cup finals are played there for many reasons. It's the classic cup final stadium, a monument basically. Also the surroundings are filled with fans grilling and having beers before the game. And when I say before the game I mean 6AM people are already mounting the grills (i know a dude that went at 4AM just to save a spot). Games are usually at 3PM/5PM. The whole experience is called the "festa da taça" or "cup party". In recent years smaller teams made their way into the final and have won it against the big three. Portuguese cup finals are something else.
Sounds great.
My mother is from Lisbon. Visiting years ago we went to stadium with my cousin and our sons. We went onto the pitch with a ball and renacted the 67 finals goals. We are Hibs and Benfica fans.
Lisbon lions forever immortal 🍀🦁🇵🇹 great vid sam… who was the body double you got to do them keep ups for you ? 👀
🤣🤣 Don't start with my football prowess! The football tennis proved everything you need to know 😉
Cheers for watching. You need to get out to Lisbon and check out the stadium!
@@FootyAdventures 🤣. Rematch due soon! yeah mate summer I’m over at my friends who’s in Lisbon so I’ll be checking out this 10000% percent. Great video mate time for a well earned superbock

Just out of curiosity Sam...what took you to Scotland ???...Enjoying your Portugal vlog's quality content 👏👏
It is not only the stadium that hosted the Champions League Final in 1967, it was the stadium that hosted the first Champions League game ever!
Ur are treasure a love ur content u spoke bout Renton vale of leven u so not biased for Celtic or rangers a love every content
My father was at the game got the programme somewhere it was his first trip to Europe since he fought in the war him and his mates stayed a week I was 7 at the time get the book Lisbon Lions
The thing with Torino was they played a friendly match vs Benfica in this stadium and on the way back to Italy their plane crashed and instantly killed the best Italian team of the 40's...
