- Finding competent defensemen in the NHL is an arduous task. Finding one that shoots right-handed, well that is like finding a needle in a haystack! Needless to say, it is a bit of a surprise to see that Filip Hronek is on the trade market. In this video, I will explore the connection between Hronek and the Carolina Hurricanes.

What would you do with Filip Hronek?
If he asks for way too much i would not keep him and just sign lindholm zadorov blueger and joshua, maybe myers if he decides to be really cheap and actually worth it, other than that i could see the others not being resigned
Try and negotiate with him for a reasonable contract, if he doesn’t move off of 8 million, trade him.
6 or less. Otherwise gone.
Everyone is replaceable.
@@Jrrobins99 Would say the exact same thing. Real Canucks fellow here 😎
Honestly if hronek is asking more then 7mil, then trading him for a top 6 winger for petterson wouldnt be a bad idea
7 mill for a top pairing RHD isn't even an over pay
@@chuck2469He needs the ability to carry his own pairing
@@chuck2469 Hughes is arguably the best D in the world right now.... Hronek has inflated numbers because he was paired with Hughes. This is Anson Carter syndrome all over again. Put him as a number 1 RHD on a team without an elite partner and PoooF! You have a 5-6M $ player
@@nameless_no_namedelusional
@@nameless_no_namewhat if hroenek helped Hughes tho? If we can’t find someone better we have to keep him imo
The best part abour the situation is that the Canucks have lots options and moves they could make.
yeah hopefully the right ones
Who wouldn't have a career year playing along side Hughes? I expected at least 10 goals with his big shot, not half of that. I trust this management to do what needs to be done and drive him to the airport.
He was injured. Barely used his slapper in the second half.
Hronek was exposed in the playoffs, he is too small and timid to play against the big boys. He is not worth more than 6.
With a tip of the hat to Glen Sather for this comment, You could put a fire hydrant next to Quinn Hughes & he would get 50 points ...Sign Z, bring back Tanev, trade Mr Warmth for draft picks, don't worry about who plays with QH...
Trade Hronek for Necas ++,sign Zadorov and Myers for the backend!
I completely agree
Toffolli and Tanev get it done. Forget Hronek 😊
Both old and slow
@johnnybaxter1953 except toffolli puts up points. Brock is slow too.
Not too slow to score 40
@@johnnybaxter1953 imagine just turning 32 a couple weeks ago and coming off a season where you score 33 goals and 22 assists in 81 games only to be labelled as old & slow by ignorant random “fans” online 😂
I think the Canucks have the upper hand here. Because he's an RFA, they can hold out and take offers. Worst case scenario, they resign him for 7 million per year (and that is the leverage they have).
He can hold out, which gives him some leverage.
Worst case only 7M? That sounds more like best case scenario to me.
I think if he’s asking for 8M (which he reportedly is), you at least have to consider a trade for Necas right? Sure he had a bit of a down year but he’s only 1 year removed from a 71 point season. Not only that but the main reason Canes fans don’t want to trade him is because he doesn’t get top 6 minutes and is still able to produce at the rate he does. I think if given the right opportunity he can easily be a consistent 70+ point guy.
In terms of losing Hronek, obviously it creates an arguably larger whole in the lineup but if you’re looking for a partner for Hughes, all you really need is a guy who can consistently break the puck out and is a stay at home kind of defender. Hronek’s numbers were probably inflated quite a bit playing with Hughes and he wasn’t even that great defensively. He has also shown that he can’t carry his own pairing which for the money he’s asking for should be a given. I think they maybe go for a bit of an underrated stopgap at least for the next 2 years like Matt Roy. I don’t think you lock up a big name like Pesce long term since Willander will hopefully be able to step in sometime the next 2-3 yrs.
I just think that when you only have 3 true top 6 quality forwards you have to at least consider shoring that up. Watching Necas play i honestly think he’d be a great winger for Petey. He’s fast, can shoot, and is super creative but just doesn’t quite fit into the Canes system.
And no to KK. Guys locked up for 5 more years at 5mAAV. I think he definitely has the potential to break out but he’d be playing 3C for us with Garland and whoever, in which case we already have Suter and Blueger who’ve shown to have chemistry at less than half of KK’s cap.
Carolina shys way from guys who want unrealistic contracts, so Hronek may not be a great target for them.
@@garycochrane4829 ya I kinda figured. But I mean look at all the expiring contracts they have on their blue line. Peace, skjei, chatfield are all gna want significant raises they probably can’t afford. That leaves them with Slavin and a 40 year old burns to carry their back end at least until Morrow and Nikishin can step in which may be 1-2 years at the minimum. I think for them to even stay competitive they kinda have to overpay for a guy like hronek or any other FA RHD just for some stability.
Stop playing these players huge money for ONE good season.
100% agree
good content again my friend. Good job. As for Hronek, if we can get Rd back, who is younger with a few years of decent term, then trade away... as if those players are available in cap times
If I was a GM with a younger RD with a few years of decent term, I definitely would NOT trade him for Hronek who is older and looking for 8M AAV. Trades are a two-way street, c'mon now.
Hey Richard! Thanks for the kind words as always
It really comes down to value. For example, if New York believes they are a better team with Hronek over Braden Schneider (22), then it would make sense to make that move. Not saying it will happen, its just an example.
@@garrettma5758 i did mention that this was improbable ;)
Hronek for Necas 1:1 please
Why would canes need Hronek though? They need forward depth and already have offensive defensemen like Burns, Skjei, and Deangelo. Also there are 10+ teams interested in Necas. Hronek would not be close to being the best offer.
Bro Burns is like 40. So yes, they NEED defence
Gotta be Necas +++
@@garrettma5758They can place Hronek on the top pairing with Slavin and move Burns down to play with Orlov. Chatfield can stay on the bottom pairing. DeAngelo is just a fill in at this point for injuries, so I’d just let him walk into free agency. I’m not sure if they try to keep Skejei or not, he’s the most likely to be re-signed.. They just need to eat one more year of Orlov, so if they sign him for longer term he can replace him after next season. They are pretty close to the cap, especially if they want to re up Guentzel. I think they move on from Pesce as well- he’s been much less effective the last couple years, but it’s hard to say. They are definitely deep on defense, even if they re-sign players instead of making a trade or going the FA route. I guess it all boils down to how much Jarvis and Necas want. Teravainen is definitely gone imo. They need to find a way to get out from under Kotkaniemi’s contact on top of it all. I thought the situation in Vancouver was complicated, Carolina has its work cut out for them.
@@TheBluelineHockeyno chance they do necas + something else
Filip Hronek ... price dropped severely when you only get 1 fuckin goal in the playoffs.
J T Miiler was never on the trade block.
There was a time the fans and media were heavily questioning his attitude, but i think the team knew he was just a competitive stud... and now everybody does.
JT was, at the 2022 deadline he was almost shipped to Pittsburgh.
Well, maybe not on the trade block, but Jim and Patrik always listen to offers, and I believe that was the case.
@@TheBluelineHockey damn dude, could you imagine Pittsburgh getting reinvigorated with a stud like that? They'd be scary.
@@The-DomI'm a Canucks fan, but the Penguins are my second team. Part of me would have liked to see that
*GET* Necas!
They need a tough D that will protect their captain, Hughes got thrown around too much in the playoffs with not much response.
Allvin and Rutherford have plenty of options--let them cook!
blueline !
Brandon!
I still hate the trade that brought Hronek here, had they kept the draft picks we could have had BOTH the great young right handed swedish D men in that draft they had 12 and 17 I believe and that was where both went. this could have solved our troubles on D for a decade. instead we waste our time with Hronek who is good but not great. Let's face it there is a reason Detroit made Seider the top D man instead of him.
I don’t think they would have taken ASP after taking Willander. I think they would have gone for an elite scoring winger or 2 way center for balance. Hronek is still a good option at around 6.75-7.00 but any more than that and I would trade him.
If he asks for too much they should trade him. Zadorov lindholm Joshua and maybe Myers should stay because they are asking for less money
It’s not only his over rated play it’s also he’s terrible attitude. I’ve mentioned this before elsewhere but it needs to be said again….there was a reason Detroit was ready to move on from him when the team was still in need of every kind of advantage to get back to the playoffs. If you recall he was openly upset about Seider being the obvious younger and better player to be the number one D man. This didn’t sit wel,l and nor should it have, with the Detroit top brass. And now we see a little of that crap here in YVR too.
I wouldn’t want Necas. Maybe Ehlers
Sign him to a reasonable deal or trade his rights
please not kotkaniemi, please lord no
I do NOT want that over payed plug on our team. No fricken way. He’s a dud
If the canes aren’t wiling to pay necas why the heck would they give hronek 8 million
They need RHD, and Hronek isn't getting 8 anywhere after his playoff performance
@@TheBluelineHockey hronek feels more like a 5 or 6 to me
They wouldn't. They would sign Pesce, plus they have a good RHD from college they just signed an ELC.
and we paid...... a 1st and a 2nd for this guy on the Me-Team?
StevieY 1-0 Trader Jim
Have to sign Hronek. Not only is he a perfect fit with the Canuck's current captain, they gave up thier old captain to get him.
Guy did nothing in the playoffs and wasn't that good defensively. Hughes inflated his numbers in the regular season. Hronek is also asking for too much. Best to trade him for something good now instead of blowing cap space on him that could be used elsewhere (like on Lindholm or Zadorov).
They can give someone like Willander a chance, but unfortunately Willander is the only right handed D on the Canucks prospect pool that has any real potential.
Stillman and Lazar both sucked. That has nothing to do with having the guts to trade Hronek. Who do you think you can get for him? I'd offer him six for six and see what he does. Sign Pesce.
Who would trade for Kotkaniemi?
If Hronek wants 8+ you need to move on. You can turn that 8 mil into Tanev and Myers without the term.
Alvin and Rutherford rebuilt that D core from a laughing stock to bordeline elite with 10 mil. They can do it again
Hronek wants 7m. Zadorov wants 6m 😅
I would take Kotkaniemi if they take back Mikayev
Hronek for necas and then sign tanev. Hronek wants 8mill
Hronek they should keep him give him what he wants.
