R.I.P. Timothy Dudley-Smith, former Bishop of Thetford (26 December 1926 - 12 August 2024), who wrote this iconic hymn back in 1962. He sadly passed away this morning aged 97. A life well lived in the service of the Anglican Church.
my Dad liked this song and I think we sang it at his funeral when I was 16 in 1986, it was good because it was like a celebration of his life - even if it was cut short at 55. Rest in peace Dad, I still think of you every day XXX.
Sang this song at midnight mass 2019, it gave great hope to me for 2020. "Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice, tender to me the promise of his word."
I have always loved this song, one of my favourites, the melody and the words are so beautiful, this is a very powerful song with powerful words which gives out a very powerful message as this is when the Virgin Mary realises that she is going to have the most important birth in religious history our Lord Jesus Christ. Son of God, I love the mixture of the congregation of the ladies and males singing it is wonderful.
Strange musical accompaniment to the spoken introduction before that wonderful, rousing hymn, beautiful and magnificent building, great organ. How moving have the last days been and a visibly blessed reign (despite the downs) of our beloved monarch is over. How much more will the praise be when our heavenly monarch comes to reign!
A beautiful rendition of the Song of Mary found in the Holy Bible, Luke 1.46-55. Written by Timothy Dudley-Smith in 1961 and originally copyrighted in 1962 with renewal in 1990 by Hope Publishing.Walter Greatorex composed the tune "Woodlands" in 1916. To God alone the glory! Thanks for posting.
Well sung , and the words clear , and cheerfully from the heart. Great to see young people. Songs of Praise hasn't encouraged youth onto past shows. Some Spirit lead person in St Ann's Cathedral has made it his or her business to motivate them. To God be the glory.
@@terrysheahan771 , untrue my friend. The oldest people are the vast majority in the congregation in Songs of Praise. Rarely is a school uniform seen on Songs of Praise. The BBC manipulates listeners and viewers by encouraging the older generation for songs of praise, and the older listeners to contribute sensible opinions on radio, while the younger voices postulate the LGBT agenda. Many young persons could express their Godly view on marriage, but that clashes with the BBC agenda. Lord Jesus Christ Son of the living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
We had this at our wedding in 1987 at holt trinity church fortitude valley ,37married we met at that church and had our first date at 14 and 15 it’s very sad that I don’t believe in god anymore I miss church the hymns the community spirit .
I love to hear hymns like this sung heartily and knowingly. I especially like the age diversity. If Irish children can sing texts and music with actual theological depth, why can't American children? Very strange.
Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord! Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice; tender to me the promise of his word; in God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his Name! Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done; his mercy sure, from age to age to same; his holy Name--the Lord, the Mighty One. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his might! Powers and dominions lay their glory by. Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight, the hungry fed, the humble lifted high. Tell out, my soul, the glories of his word! Firm is his promise, and his mercy sure. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord to children's children and for evermore!

Requiescant in pace.
Tell out my soul the greatness of the Lord! So beautiful it makes tears roll down my face.
Well done Ireland . You really put power into this wonderful song of praise .

Very nice
55 is much too young. And for you at 16 much too early.
BEAUTIFUL! “Tell Out My Soul!” Majestic!🎚️♥️
BLISSFUL ❤❤❤❤
I love the last line ''To Children's Children and Forevermore''

Amazing. I love this song 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Firm is His promise and His mercies sure
We sang that hymn as our recessional hymn today at Church service…
This was our hymnal anthem yesterday at my Anglican parish in Raleigh. Beautiful hymn by the way...

I love the sounding of this choir. This hymn is #12 in our book. Very popular around Christmas
Great, it's the last line of each verse that does it for me
Beautfully and enthusiastically sung - one can forget their problems whenlistening to a hymn sung like this--thank you!
I would choose this for one of my funeral hymns. Love it!
Beautiful hymn and beautifully sang too
Fantastic
Another great hymn which I haven`t heard sung for a little while. very nice choir work and accompliment.

Used this as a processional for my wedding 25 years ago. (Prior to me being walked into church by my dad who then performed the wedding ceremony).
Such a beautiful song, beautiful words and heartwarming to see the congregation singing with all their hearts. thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!
Great job! Thanks for sharing this beautiful song!
I love seeing a great mix of children and adults 💖💕
Lovely hymn.
Beautiful! We'll sing it tomorrow in my parish here in Vancouver, BC.
So nice 🥰

It's very rare to NOT see specially invited school children in uniform on Songs of praise, especially SoP from Scotland and Ireland.

Too much pressure on and distraction for poor American kids.. way too much.
Happiest tune I know. I am an atheist.
And Christ will locate you soon 😊😊

Didn't realize it was Mary's song encompassing the Magnificat. Her acceptance understanding, that she was to give birth to Jesus.
Well... actually it's based in Hannah's song in 1 Sam 2...
@@margaretmarykingfisher you are right, first it is Hannah's song and later Mary 's song has similar words.
reminds me of school!
These school kids, many of whom will have families now !
Jesus is Lord

I wonder if these people know they're singing about a black woman. Yes Blessed Mary was black and so was the entire Holy Family🖤
Sorry, the hymn Tell out my soul. Should have explained before following comment.
Shame on the Dean of Belfast for what he has done.....
Firing Philip Stopford?
