Got to borrow a Norseman for a couple of weeks. Excellent action and attention to detail knife. I would definitely consider adding one to my collection. Rask is one I have not experienced yet. All in good time I suppose. Sounds like it’s a keeper for you. Hope it continues to serve you well man😎🤘🤘
The 2.0 was made on their extremely high resolution machine and all the tolerances are tighter, etc. The blade curing process was also really dialed-in with warps avoided rather than sanded down.
I’ve been collecting for over 4 years. Bench made, spyderco, hinderer, we, shiro, holt, chaves, protech,and many others. I ended up picking up a Norseman very late to the game. I loved everything about it. The traded a f3 for a rask. Out of all my knives it may just be in my top 3. Today is my first day with it so I may be on my honeymoon 😅
I have a rosie in magnacut and also a rask in rwl 34. I use both. I tend to prefer the rask because of the blade shape and ease of maintaining the edge. The Rwl 34 steel is a perfect for edc steel imo. As long as you don’t chip the edge, you only need to strop it and it literally goes back to the sharpest edge you can have. Not the case with magnacut… you can still strop it back to get a better edge but it won’t come back 100% without a good sharpening session. I’d choose magnacut for a hard user fixed blade that i can beat the crap out of it in the wood tho!
As far as higher end, I’ve only owned a Shiro and am looking at a Herman as well as a Rask. How would you compare it to a Shiro and Herman on action and fit and finish? At that price point I’m not sure why the Grimsmo’s don’t at least use M390? Great video, Thanks.
Great question! I’ve owned all three and they’re all unique in their own way. Overall the Rask is my favorite action. The Herman has the best acoustics. The Shiro has the best feel in hand. The smoothness of the Rask and Shiro are comparable with the Rask edging out just a little more due to their crazy action and their unique detent system. Yeah not sure why Grimsmo doesn’t use a different steel although in my daily use, the edge on the RWL34 has held up really really well so their heat treat seems to be super dialed in. Rather have a well done heat treated RWL34 steel than a poorly treated M390. Optimal performance.
Out of all the knives I’ve owned, the Norseman was my most underwhelming knife purchase of all time. I got a Rask and I do like it. But, there are waaaay better knives out there in the same ball park in 2023. I am also not a fan of the light lockbar tension, build quality and materials in the Rask.

Man from what I’ve heard, the Rask is a more refined or EDC friendly brother to the Norseman. And it def feels like it!

Got one. Carried it a short time and promptly sold it. Great knife, but I was terrified I would damage or lose it.
I just wish it was in a nicer/harder steel. This in magnacut at 63 would be a lot more convincing for a 1K knife

People get worked up over super steel when most of the folks just use their knives to open boxes and cut fruit at lunch.

Love the knife except for the bounce on the drop. You're arguing contact area. Yeah, it's a cool tweak.
Yeah the bounce doesn’t happen that much but can be a pain(and potential cut)

That’s weird because I feel like my lockbar tension is super dialed in so the action and detent is super snappy.
