Those tape-measures, now i don't know if it's the same in USA, but in EU we have 3 classes. Class 1 is for professional use, max allowed divination from true, on 5m (16,4 feet) is 0,6mm (0,023 inch), tho they'll often cost 5-8x as much as the cheap 5€ ones
Thanks dude. Love watching this.
For anyone looking at using the spring clamps, quick tip: they can be a pain to grip 2 smaller pieces without them shifting in or out as the pressure settles. Turn them sideways or more parallel to the workpiece and they're way easier to keep straight.
I love working with good tools. Bad ones just make the job frustrating. Thanks Matt for your Outlaw's Most Wanted List!
Your time stamp method is perfect.
I like that there’s two ways. The comments or the link in description (preferred for me).
I literally just pause the video at a tool I like. Click the link in your description and it’s super easy to find.
I recommend you keep this in time-stamp order as it is now. Anything else would make it difficult
I was in Home Depot a while back and I decided I would see how accurate some of their cheap squares were. So I grabbed 2 aluminum speed squares and put the flanged sides down and put them against each other, no daylight. I did the same with a few others, same result. I grabbed some different kind of squares and the same result. These were around $8.00. I'm sure Peckers equivalent would be ten times that. I would rather save the $65 and take my wife to dinner.
Woodpeckers is a cult.
So impressed by your workshop, I dream to be there one day.
Thank you. You can certainly do it! As they say, "Rome wasn't built in a day." Same thing with building up a shop. Just do it a little at a time!
Awesome compilation. It took me several sessions to watch start to finish. I now have a huge wish-list! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Thank you Wayne! Merry Christmas!
I wanted to comment on how totally pro your tool reviews are. You dont bash tools you dont quite like. You show respect when respect is due. I enjoy that in your reviews. Well Done!
I appreciate that!
You can bring a framing square back into square by tapping the corner with a ballpein hammer.if it's toed inwards, tap the inside corner slowly and check on every hit. You will stretch the metal and move the blade outward. If you're too aggressive, you may have to file the blade flat if you hit it too close to the edge. Worked in a fab shop and my boss was too cheap to buy us new ones. So we had to improvise. Tap the outside of the corner if it's out the opposite way.
You probably don't want to drop your square if you have to use it again.
So now you can always remember that your cheap Boss helped you teach all of us viewers who have out of squared
Square s get them back into square... Makes me sound like a square.
Just sayin
Thanks, the tip to fix a
needed tool if on the job site I have a ( quick fix )
Thank you so much for compiling all these videos together!!! Super useful video
Glad you like them!
I use those spring clamp as I have different sizes in pairs but you gave me more great ideas for their uses I never even thought of like using them to hold two pieces of wood while marking and ideal for clamping round wood. Great job on your video
Your videos are well worth watching and very informative it is an awful pity some of the very convenient tools you show can't be found in my country. I'm on Disability and only a home hobbyist in my 60s. There is another idea for the spring clamps, people of all ages could use them for hand exercises especially elderly. I find them great as I'm fighting arthritis and trying to do various hobbies before arthritis gets hold and these spring clamps are a great accent to helping. Thanks a million
That small square would depend 100% on the table saw throat insert being perfectly level
FYI, a Jim Tolpin book on measuring suggested putting 2 adhesive measuring tapes on both sides of a piece of aluminum angle iron. Make them any length you want.
Metal ruler with the plastic stop. Makes perfect sense. You do not want metal on metal wearing away anything you want to keep accurate.
I was thinking the same thing. you would eventually loose the anodized markings if the stop was metal.
With me not being real tech savvy, this seems like a pretty easy way to find everything you would be interested in. Now to find time to watch the whole video 😮
Thanks!
Thanks for explaining that with the mini square. I know a lot of people don't know about the kerf to a blade and Don't account for it while cutting. This is a very informational video. I appreciate the hard work you put into it. C'mon, what's better than learning something new, right?! 👍🏻👍🏻
100% love my little DFM squares and card scrapers. dude does a great job.
Thanks 👍 Matt! 😊😊❤❤
Honestly, works great for me. Ill make sure to play these longer videos during shop days so they play all the way through for ya
Absolutely awesome and informative video and I love your T- shirt messages!
On the woodpecker rule, the reason the stop block is not aluminum, or any type of metal is that it would mark up the ruler! 😀 PS stop makin me wanna buy more stuff lol!
lol I though the same thing on the rulers but the Paolini Pocket rule has an aluminum slide.
Man.... this is a great video that will make my "wish list" on a lot of things! Thanks for all the great tips and info Matt!
Thank you going in depth detail for each one of the wonderful tools, Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Merry Christmas!
The plastic stop block is probably the best idea. If it was mad from aluminum it would scratch up the ruler
I originally thought that too, but their Paolini Pocket Rules have aluminum slides.
@@731Woodworks well dang lol then yes I agree lol
I have a made in USA Stanley carpenters square. I have had this square for over 20 years. I have cut plywood pieces that when checked with this square were perfectly square on all four corners. If I bought a $300 square would it do anything to make these pieces more square than what they actually are?
An engineering rule of thumb for accuracy is that every decimal point of accuracy multiplies the cost of production by a factor of 10.
I love Fastcap products, but I’ve had 3 of their tapes and they’ve all gotten stuck and not rewound. Total bummer. Love the imperial metric ones.
Great stuff. And thank you for showing the various ways to use ..some tips there that are of high value for time saving and accuracy.
Excellent best of super cut video! Thank you.
I just got the Milescraft track saw guide, and I'm loving it so far. Took a little finagling to get my 5.5" Ryobi Circular Saw attached to the sled that goes on the track - and gotta be careful and specific when putting in extended batteries for the Ryobi saw as well - that aside, it was a great investment so far!
Thank you for the great content! You just filled out my Christmas list lol
Wow! I’m surprised that every Recommended tool wasn’t Festool
🙄
I enjoy your channel very much. I would like to see you review Grizzly products. I have been woodworking for over 50 years and have used their products for most of that time. I know that most serious woodworkers use Grizzly products. They are located in Springfield MO, so you could visit their shop fairly easily. Their customer support is the best in the industry.
Description/navigation links are great. Well done... this one too will hopefully exceed expectations!
Fingers crossed!
man I put this video on and Just started cleaning around the shop and house, and listened to it for soooo long. Really great video and very clear speaking and great overall. Love the link with all the tools and time stamps. Saved for listening to in the future. Great video Subscribed look forward to listening and watching more of your content. You are Appreciated.
Thanks!
If you are a sucker for setup blocks buy a set of gauge blocks from Starrett or round gauge blocks from an industrial dealer.
I’m seeing 100 uses for these. Under kitchen cabinets, closets, motion lights for night time.
I learn so much watching your videos!
I'm so glad!
I prefer the metal spring clamps because they have a lower profile and power tools tend to get by them easier.
it looks as if you didn't push as hard on the OWL bit as you did on the others
Love your channel GOD Bless
Rick
Brother, I have followed you for years and been a huge fan. Shoot, I even tagged you in one of my builds 2 years ago, it was the entertainment center and you gave me a shout on IG. But I gotta ask…. Can you build more? Everyone is doing tool reviews, I get it. But can you get back to what you used to do? Shoot that’s why most of us OG’s are here in the first place. You prob won’t see this but I feel like this channel has gotten off track and it’s sole purpose is to ride the trending bandwagon for views and views = money. But doesn’t = quality. All love bro. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I totally agree. I love tool reviews as well as anyone but I prefer watching Matt building products and the best way to build someone. No offense but started following also for the building purposes. Lately it's all tool reviews.
@@jdurrant421 yeah man I mean no disrespect to Matt. He has great videos but….let’s build
something you know? Maybe dabble in the modern furniture market or at least continue making great farmhouse style stuff. SOMETHING.
keep a lookout for my soon to be born channel, adult_onset_woodworking, to fill all your build focused desires as well as DIY & Homesteading tips & tricks and lots of home-shop build out/upgrade content. Matt's tool based videos are way too valuable to all of out here in woodworker land at this point, I can't tell you how lich time and $$$ he's saved me over the past couple years, Thanks Matt, @731Woodworking
🤘👍💪
If you want to compare accuracy compare the product to Starrett and for longevity the the material and quality of coating applied to aluminum. Flatness can be compared on a surface table
I love woodpeckers, why would i ever want to scare one? They are beautiful.
Just for reference:
3 sides - triangle
4 sides - square
5 sides - pentagon
6 sides - hexagon
7 sides - heptagon
8 sides - octagon
9 sides - nonagon
10 sides - decagon
for sure I love your vids 😋 I learn a LOT as a beginner! Thanksssssssssssssssss !!!😇
Thank god for links and time stamps because no wayyyy could I watch 3 hours of tools haha
Tape measures are more for construction where you can be a 16th to an 8th off and it's no big deal. I always used rulers for shop work. If I'm measuring more than a yard stick,I'll use a tape. But if all your measurements are under 30 inches, use a ruler. It's less clunky and more accurate. If you are doing shop work have a few rulers or different lengths.
The edge guide is nice and all, but I always have my brass stair guages and use those the same way. Plus, I can use them as a rip guage on my circular saw. One tool, multiple functions.
Got my kid. From brother in law for working on his dryrot on his rental…he didnt complain…
Foot switch is great. I use it for my vac on my battery miter saw
Lots of great tools Mighty Matt!
Thanks 👍
This will take multiple viewing sessions, but thx for the compilation!
If you take the blade out of your Swanson square, you can use the base at the table saw or bandsaw to square it up. No additional expense. 😀
Non customized FastCap tapes actually use that side for a write on/wipe off clip board. Very handy, and you could also have your custom message around the outside still leaving most of the clipboard available…
@2:29 *accidently drops the aluminum speed square* *improvs* "it's durable!" lmao that was funny.
Your 2 in 1 countersink bit has the Allen key in the shaft of the tool itself
I was looking for a woodworking video, but I found a shameless schill. Way to sell out.
i want to get into woodworking as a hobby. these kinds of videos are just what i need
So he’s just full time tool advertisement now.
I use the foot switch for my dremmel tools; so much better workflow!
I really like this video, it's very interesting to watch.
Insomnia? Never mind insomnia I think I must be one of the walking dead. I put this on around 2 am… Then got to enthralled in the finish of each piece. Good job I can choose when I get up.
👊 Sorry you can't sleep! It's rough on you for sure!
You got me, that Taylor Toolworks took all my candy money.
Nothing, not even my Starrett's are PEFERCTLY square. There is close, very close and really, really close or imperfectly perfect and perfectly imperfect !! CNC even with CMM is also not perfect. Just extra close.
Great Job / Good Intel!!
Whoa! There is a lot of content in this one. I started watch, fell asleep, rewound, watched more, fell asleep, rewound, watched more, then decided to come back later and watch the rest. Probably after I have an hour of ZZZZZZZ's.
I still think that the CT1272 corded 7-1/4" track saw is the pick of the WEN litter.
I LOVED this video! This is what us new woodworkers need! Sage unbiased overviews of great tools so we know what to get, why, and how to use it. I VEHEMENTLY disagree with Spills51 on his comment about “pushing tools”. WE NEED TOOLS! And tools are seldom covered in such depth, with such expertise, and so concisely and quickly: yes, it’s a fire hose, but I don’t want a whole video on just one tool: life is too short. You could make a whole separate channel on just covering tools. And perhaps this an idea we can take away from Spills51’s comment. He obviously has all the tools he needs, so bravo for him. In deference to his comment, perhaps we do need a separate channel on projects and techniques. I don’t disagree with that in principle. SO, if we want to keep just one channel (often needed for critical mass), the maybe have three different video “shows” one for each gender. So there can be the “Tool Review Show”, the “Tool Techniques Show”, and then the “Projects Show”, each with its own focus. This may be the closest to satisfying everyone. But for example with projects, I’m probably not going to watch many projects videos unless it’s for something that I want or am planning to build. But I’ll watch tools and techniques all day long. Other might revers this. Let each to their own.
Watch out for the remote power switch from harbor freight. #4 in your second list I think. There are two types. One is momentary contact. The other is not! One you click it on and it stays on until you click it again. I wanted / needed a dead man switch for lathe work so the tool stops the moment I remove my foot.😊Great job with the video😊
The best tool video I have seen.
great video , God Bless.
I want them all!
Awesome !
It goes on a carpenters square, making it a speed square of sorts.
I was really hoping that you'd read
I Gaging correctly XD
"Freedom unit" LOL!
The tape measures would measure equal if they all were pulled tight.
It’s a removable square support that rides on the edge of your material.
I have that same drill press and I can't seem to get it square front to back. It's a great drill press other than that.
Great video again, love them. I was wondering what bench you had the dewalt table saw. I am considering get that table saw and I want to know what bench that was so I can purchase that as well. Thank you an advance fir the information.
Makita track saw FTW
every time i use my forester bits i freshen the cutting edge with a fine cut fili...a few strokes at each cutting edge.i have cut hundreds of holes each and they still cut great.much like i pull a few strokes each tooth after each use of my chainsaws..just to freshen the cutting edge
saq
Bro, spade bits are great at clean holes, if you take your time.. that was a blind thing your sponsors asked you to say..
Put on one leg of a carpenter's square so the leg doesn't drop down when in use.
Will the TSO track saw square fit the WEN track saw? I’m not sure which guide it is most similar to.
Purple is always the answer.
DANG!!!! I THREW IT AWAY!!!! I found one of those "Carpenter's Square Fence" in my Dad's tools after he passed away. I thought it was some sort of guard that screwed on to a blade to cover the edge. I couldn't find any saw or knife that it looked like it fitted, so I threw it in the metal scrap bin. The amount of times I've used my big Square and had it slip while I'm marking out a job........ is countless!!!! Boy, am I feeling like a real dummy right now. 🤥
Several tools that I really need. This is going to be expensive.
I always love the T-shirts you wear. Speak the Truth.
I like when he says "square" 😅
The miter slot on my Ryobi 8 1/4" table saw is only 5/8". It's a pain trying to find attachments that fit it.
Yo! I want the Rip-It with an auto feed, that would be awesome.
Love your shirts. They keep me on your channel.
Glad you like them!
Cool.
Matt's FIVE favorite tools...all 200 of them :-) I've hired an affordable getaway driver...just waiting for the backordered mask to arrive LOL..I NEED all of these...for my safety.
I have 2 Deadman Switches, one on my Ryoubi 9” Bandsaw and the other on my Tablesaw…the one on the Tablesaw is the most dangerous!…I have things sitting on the table and if it’s near the blade when I accidentally step on the switch, BANG!.could cut my hand etc. So I keep it up off the floor until Ineed to use it.
i think if u use tools alot u should own a 3d printer, the amount of stuff u can make to just make life easier when working with ur setup is worth it alone plus the custom storage or jigs u can do with them is even better.
@731Woodworks. Check out the Harbor Freight Forstner bits (I know, I know). Super smooth cuts, waaaayyyyy better than the Irwin set I have. I’ve had no tear out with the cheapest set they sell. They are now selling a carbide tipped Hercules set for $35 that I’m going to have to try out.
Do you have any videos on using the scroll saw? I lost my brother recently and his wife got me to take all his things out of his shed which included a scroll saw but I never saw or used one so I don't know how to use it or anything about it and it is for home use hobbies. I did find blades for cutting metal only only two days ago but I'm dying to see it working and what I can use it for
Quality clamps do not bend easily because they are are made of high strength low alloy steel like 4140 heat treated stress relieved
This has to be the 'gold standard' of useful woodworking tools. Most of the tools are very affordable, you provide great detail, 'how to use' info, and the tool presentations are swift but not so fast that I have to replay sections over and over. Great job.
