I Once Nearly Bought a Maserati GranCabrio | REVIEW

- Once upon a time I considered buying a Maserati GranCabrio as the successor to my Audi S5 Cabriolet; for the four-seat open-top grand tourer configuration with a truly beautiful V8 sound. Fast forward and the model has now been updated and brought back as the GranCabrio Sport, and it's still every bit as beautiful and it still sounds phenomenal!
The GranCabrio Sport was launched by Maserati as a refresh to the car, with a slightly revised look, new electronics on the inside but most importantly maintaining that glorious naturally aspirated V8 soundtrack. I'm a big fan of driving a car in the right environment, and with the roof down at sunset, twisty Italian roads and that wonderful engine sound wailing away behind - this was spot on.
Thanks for watching, Tim

Shmee150 considered ? You should 😁
Tim, you've just spent half this video saying how good the engine note is but you didn't show the engine, and this isn't the first time it's happened. Hate to say it but drivers are logical - a driver would have gone straight to what's under the bonnet... Thanks for sharing.
Modern cars don't really let you see much, just a pretty engine cover and that's about it. The problem is we're in this mentality of old where you go to look because there's something that you can actually view, but nowadays it doesn't really reveal much. To be honest I normally do look at the engine as you know but in this case time was brutally short and I didn't think about it at the time.
Replacing a refinde Audi S5 with a beutiful interieur with a good looking and sound but awfull and dated interieur doesnt sound right. Maseratis never had the quality to match their price, and there are alot of nicer cars that sound great out there...
k thanks for the honest reply. Thumbs up :)
This is literally my dream car
Same
@@wizzardcd9803 me too I can put money on driving one on a summer eve like this is a amazing experience
In a time where stats and numbers sell cars, it’s so refreshing to see a car that focuses on the experience. Props to Maserati for not caring about lap times and drag races because at they end of the day, there is nothing like cruising down to the beach in the middle of summer with a lovely soundtrack.
I Once Nearly Bought a Bugatti Chiron...just needed the money...sad
Hehe, I know the feeling xD
😂😂😂😂
Me too, I was almost about to buy an Audi R8 v10 plus, but needed up with polo gti
Got tripped up at the same step
I actually think a Maserati would suit you, Tim. Not many people drive them
Good options for daily drivers for sure
A M K x here in Switzerland there are more Maseratis than there is sand on the beach
A M K x All Maserati Models Available Now Are Total Crap.
*Thanks FCA*
Bad the depreciation is bad...
sagat4 I said its depreciation is "bad". So meaning I know every car depreciates. Of course you wanna get the car that depreciates less. The only cars that dont depreciate are hypercars or collector cars
What a beautiful car and video. The Maserati history and attention to detail in this is amazing. No matters how old the Grandturismo is it will always be in the top 3 best looking.
I bought one of these in Bordeaux Ponteveccio Burgandy with Caramello Cuoio interior.
The sound of that engine is genius! I really love it:)
I wish they could invest a little bit more in the GT and the GC to adjust all those little ignored details! Still one of the most iconic Italian sports car out there! Great video Shmee!
BB-8 yes indeed!
that god a car that sounds good and doesnt crackle all the time
Very envious Tim, that looked a great evening drive, loved the sound!
my favorite car since longtime ! beautiful in this configuration _ THANKX A LOT
NDA yeah
i would get it in yellow and interior red
i love this car
All these outdated comments, i mean i jump every week in a Maserati QP GTS 2008 (Larini exhaust) from a member of my family, it is outdated for sure, but god the experience you got from driving it and enjoying the road is just to awesome to care about everything else, it's the same for Abarth which is my daily, my point is : As long as you enjoy to drive it, who cares about the tech'...
Great car Shmee!
Thank you Shmee for a great review! It is my fav car ever. Once came out in 2008 I was in love. I hope they redesign the panel and gadgets of the interior. For the sound is something unmissable to experience in life! One day I will be lucky to test drive one!
Thanks for the video Tim. I am a Maserati owner and I love these cars.
Just wanted to tell you I bought mine in dec 2018 after watching your review :)
What an awesome exhaust sound.
Yes, yes and YES! Cant wait to get my hands on one!
You are in the market for one of these!??! Yes! Ill be in the market for an older one next year like a 2012
I have a Quattroporte 4.2 ZF. Maserati is such a great brand for so many reasons and I am really happy that I got the opportunity to buy a Maserati at my age. Hope you will enjoy your cars as much as i do!
Lala Loepsie what year is it??
2008. I couldn't afford a GTS yet but i'm 19 so I have time to save up for a couple more months
Truth be told, I prefer the original iteration of this body style, back when they’d first launched in the late 2000’s, early 2010’s. But this is the epitome of the GT and GC when it comes to technology and driving experience; the updates and refinements made to the chassis, infotainment, materials, fitment, and more really make these a phenomenal drive. They’re relatively reliable (for the class) too, since all the issues are well known and easily addressable by now!
They may be dated, and they may not be the best value, but they genuinely have one of the most rewarding drives of any car out there, right now. It’s not something I say lightly - I recommend everyone experience one of these, or their older Tipo M139 Quattroporte counterparts at some point in their driving career. They really are a treat to own and drive.
BEAUTIFUL!!!
The Mc Stradale is my absolute favourite car and it's the sound and driving experience. I test drove it and it was absolutely amazing, if I ever have the money im buying it hands down. I would rather have that than any other car!
I once nearly bought a La Ferrari ... ended up waking up
SirMagicalzoom. For me, it was an Audi R8 LMX, but then my mum pulled my blanket down.
Thank you for the beautiful sound track!
Gorgeous car. My aunt is lucky to have the GranTurismo but she got it many years ago and it's starting to show its age. Ever since I sat inside that car I fell in love with it and promised myself one day I will purchase one.
So glad to see they have refreshed the original design and updated the interior - that was long overdue. I think however the rear lights needed a bigger change.
Now, if they can keep manufacturing these for the next 5 years or so, I will hopefully be able to get one. Just gotta finish this **** degree lol.
Good luck! You never know
They will stop making it any minute now it’s 10 years old.
SenszR no, I disagree. It definitely has at least a few years left in it. This is the 2018 redesign. They wouldn't invest the money in redesigning it and changing manufacturing methods for it to only use the design for a year. Does not make business sense.
Shmee150 thank you! :)
David This Thing Is Outdated, Uses Cheap FCA Parts, But Most Of All, It Has Chrysler's UConnect, Which Controls The Whole Car.. It's Also Proven To Be Vulnerable Against Hackers :/..
Just Get Yourself A Ferrari Portofino
amazing brand, amazing car, amazing sound.
Not so amazing now.
How come? :d
Mine is a 2010. bought it new. Has been a great car. Love the style.
Sounds so good!
Great review with some very interesting facts. Did not know about the Pininfarina designer and that it is made in the same factory that produced cars in 1957 from your previous video. Wonderful Maserati history lesson with a wonderful convertible.
Why are the Italians so good at making their engines sound amazing.. compared to most other?
Heine Pedersen they make love to their cars like their woman. If she not moaning. She no good.
Because Italians are all about style over substance.
Because Ferrari makes the V6 for Maserati
Because they want to EXPERIENCE the drive, not be lulled to sleep like Mercedes for example.
@@rogerwilkins9701 it is a v8, same has the 458
Best sound ever
I love the Gran Cabrio. It has to be one of the best grand tourers ever! The noise is so wonderful. I can see Tim driving around in one of these.
I love all car stuff you upload man.... great job SHMEE
Thank you!
i thinking about buying that car looks sick af
Definitely an amazing car, especially in that color combo
What a beautiful car especially in this dark blue! I've always loved Maserati and this car is simply stunning. One day...Great review, thanks for sharing. :)
indeed true automotive dream land with a heavenly effect. Tim I'm surprised your hear didn't become staticky after the insane and wild drive around the corners and bends.
You could buy a maserati just for the amazing sound!
The classic rumble from one of the best cars money can buy
Nice to see you doing a maserati video, there's not enough on these cars, they're a different class of super car, beautifully designed, fantastic beastly sound and just the name itself is enough to turn heads.
I've owned an 08' and a14' Coupe and absolutely loved them! It's one of the few if any exotics that can seat 4 adults It is a heavy car so not super fast but the sound is so amazing that you feel like your flying lol My kids moved out so I no longer needed the 4 seats so I went for an F-Type which also sounds epic but handles much better; more of a sports car whereas the Maserati is a Grand Touring car They depreciate like a rock, so if you really want a Gran Turismo, find a used one but a CPO would be best because if something goes wrong, it costs 3-4 times more to repair than a Honda Also, maintenance isn't cheap: oil changes are $700!
What a thing of beauty!
Absolutely adore this car, especially in this color combo! Little bit of Miami vice. Suits you perfectly - should have bought it :)
One of the most beautiful cars you can buy at the moment.
And it will be missed when it´s gone.
But i can´t wait to see what they replace it with.
Denis Spratt I’m scared they will put a V6 in the successor.
SenszR
They probably will.
I think it will come with the 3.0 V6 and the 3.8 V8.
there's the all new maserati mc20
I absolutely love this car💯❤️
My next car forsure 👍🏼. Thanks for sharing
The back lights of Maserati really needs an update. BMW and Merc are already using OLED and Maserati is just decades behind.
Such a beautiful and amazing car!
The exhaust sound of the GranCabrio is intoxicating
I've always loved this engine. In my top 5 for sure!
And my number one😎👍
wow those paddle shifters are huge
Stunning car. Beautiful colour and trim combination. Seems like a event driving one of these.
That is one good looking car Tim, imagine taking some of your trips in that, can you say, yes please !
Great sound but outdated hardware!
That's excatly why I love it so much. The new cars with all the tech where you need a pilot license (for example turbo) are just not that appealing. This is a real design icon...and that sound!!!!
Who dfq cares - this is a car that has caracter and sound - no more is needed.
3:13 they've updated the infotainment system.
True lol
Veey beautiful car! The "traditional" taillights still look awesome.
rims are dope with that masi touch
I love the Gran Turismo / Gran Cabrio. I want one! The old switch gear has a charm to it and I even like the robotised manual in this car too.
Ancient! I remember my GranCabrio in 2014, it was a wonderful car and had no issues, albeit I got rid of it at 24,000 miles. The A/C button would sometimes get jammed but thats about it. Honestly I would sometimes turn off the sport mode, and floor it beside a curb or wall and you could hear the induction noise versus the exhaust!
So fuckin dope. W that exhaust note this is one of the few cars id get in topless form
What a sound
Beautiful car
One of the best Maserati paint job with white interior.
I like it
Love love it!!!
My uncle owns one and I *REALLY* want to go see it and go for a drive in it. They sound so heavenly!
I really like ur hustle bro
It looks nice with the roof up
Maserati GranCabrio😍
This is my absolute dream car! I just hope that when I grow up I'm able to afford it HAHA ❤️❤️
Love this car
always a soft spot for maserati
or is it a not-so-soft spot...
11:41 I think it looks even better with the top up... so long & lean & muscular. Not bloated like so many cars.
This car is epic. I owned the same car in MC-version for 3 years (2015 - 2018) and it was every time a thrill to make a journey, especially in the northern lake area of Italy where I live. It's not about acceleration figures, although the car is not slow at all as long as you rev it, which is a delight. But it impresses the most when you cruise and play with the engine and transmission. I had to sell the car with great regret (in Italy you pay each year € 4.200,00 of taxes in the first five years, also if you would keep it but take it out of circulation !!) because we needed a car to transport our newly acquired dog. But every time I sea/hear a Granturismo/cabrio (especially on youtube) I regret my decision. Maybe one day I would buy this car again, but then in this beautiful colour combination : blue assoluto with light grey interior and a lot of carbon fibre !
This Maser is stunning..and almost nothing sounds like it ..
a lot of people don''t like this car or any maserati just because of 2-3 plastic buttons and because it's not the fastest in its category with 0-60 around 4-5 depending on the model but frankly speaking 5 seconds is more than enough for any driver and the looks and sound make up for the "3" plastic buttons you come across in the interior!!
J'adore !
Esse carro é muito lindo.Ainda mais com essa cor de chassi e esse banco claro!
Gorgeous car Tim - love the dark blue colour- do you think you ll buy one for your collection
Still love it! & love to have👍
Good words for overview. :)
Awesome Car
Buy it,Buy it
Superb car, superb spec
Amazing spec. Perfection.
It's abeautiful car for grand touring when purchased after some depreciation making the price more attractive. I like it a lot.
How can it be so old, yet so gorgeous?
Ferrari sourced NA V8 😍
👊 right in the kisser!!!!
HI Shmee, im guys
Forget about the infotainment...the constant smile says it all...😎🙏🏎
Dream Car..Dream Spec & Dream Colour. :)
Absolutely! Maserati is just something else and this is a true automotive masterpiece!
Most beautiful car made
I love so much this car but the only thing I hate is the infotainment system, I drove one & with the top down this thing is amazing.
the new infotainment is so much tho to the old one
Maserati sounds it’s the best..I have one myself and is an amazing car
8:00 rev limiter sounds insanely good
Was für eine geile Kiste !!! Forza Maserati !
That's sound which I am searching for , thank you Maserati 🔱 and Ferrari .
Probably the best sport car in production today
Has he once stopped smiling?
Looks really nice , I like the lights , would really suit a red paint job
Dark red on it looks stunning
Shmee150 I could imagine
Hi Tim I really like your videos. I think you should do a review on the Range Rover Evoque Convertible it would be a dream come true to see my favourite CZcamsr review it (:(;
The GT icon. Automotive (im)perfection that makes this car so great. Still true today. Love it!
Good Video.... i like a lot!!! Where were you for this test ride?
Alfa Romeo's test track near Parma
When the GranTurismo and GranCabrio were released they were one of the best cars on the market for the money. Then they gradually became outdated and felt like so for the last several years. However, now the appeal is back. Throughout its time naturally-aspirated V8s almost completely died out and now it's more relevant that it ever has been. Plus its not only beautiful but also timeless design.
Lovely car, i have noticed you seem to get a lot of enjoyment from the door opening mechanism on cars.
