  • Climb of Stob a'Choire Odhair 30th January 2014. Wanted a simple climb for Olive's first proper mountain and had already done Stob Ghabhar, so decided on this one. Deep snow from 1500 feet and no views out over Rannoch Moor at the summit. But she loved it.

It’s 2023 now, and I’ve just found this delightful video of a very agile playful Olive in her much younger years. My heart is full seeing her this way. Just loved this. “ pre Mabel” 🥰 I just watched the video of Olives last climb ,with much sadness. She’s an amazing companion full of heart.

Came because of the mention in your book. LOVED seeing Olive's first experience with snow. Our lab Treble does NOT like the snow; however, I think this is due to his past. When we rescued him at 4 1/2 years old, the majority of his life he had been left in a closet with no window :(. We've had him five years now and he is the sweetest, happiest, craziest almost 10 year old puppy you've ever met. No one believes his age, even with the gray in his muzzle now. He was terrified of rain and snow when we brought him home. He is no longer afraid, but still only likes weather in the mid 70's and partly sunny with a light breeze. He adores his walks, but does not like any form of weather. I keep telling him he must have planned on being incarnated in San Diego, CA, not in New York ;). Treble wants me to let you know he still is hoping to meet Olive one day and convince her he is the man she's been waiting for. Not for breeding, but for snuggles. He's a total snuggle bug. Just realized Olive is wearing the same sweater as Treble does in the cold. Wish I could attach a picture for you.

Three things: first of all thank you very much for this video, it couldn't have come at a better time for this recently divorced bachelor dealing with the pandemic largely alone - I was nearly brought to tears remembering both my labs I had when still married whose lives were both cut short too soon, one we had to put down at seven months from a heart defect and my best buddy who died two weeks shy of his fifth birthday. Your scenes of walking Olive from the perspective of holding the leash really took me back to my wonderful memories of my short time with both my boys. I WILL someday own another Lab when I'm able to own my own home and he will have a proper yard - no vistas like that here in Southern Wisconsin. Second I'd like to say your country is gorgeous, maybe not to everyone's liking but it is too me - just stunning. I remember watching the James Bond movie Skyfall for the first time and when he goes home to Skyfall again the scenery blew me away, I sometimes feel like I've been to certain places I've seen pictures of but have never been to before physically - I can't explain it other than to jokingly say it was in another life. I definitely feel like I've been to Scotland before and would certainly love to be able to go in this lifetime! Lastly I must say to all the dog lovers out there if you haven't already read the book Merle's door" by Ted Kerasote PLEASE do! You will thank me later, I mean we're all having a little extra time on our hands these days - right?! Be well everyone, God bless

@@marydonohoe8200 thank you so much for the kind, and oh so true words, I will for sure be getting another Lab when the time is right - hopefully sooner rather than later! My daughter made an art project in school for me a few years back, one of my prized possessions, and it's a saying on a piece of wood with an outline of a Lab and the saying is " A dog is the only thing that loves You more than he loves himself" needless to say I love it and I believe that sums up our relationship with dogs. Take care and be well in this craziest of times, God bless 🙂✌

It's true, Australia is the oldest, flattest, and driest inhabited continent, but don't forget that Australia also has the Great Dividing Range ... stretching 3,500 kilometres, running the entire length of the eastern coastline fading out at the GRAMPIANS in western Victoria. Highest point being Mount Kosciuszko at the south eastern end at 2,228 metres high. Ben Nevis, 1,345 meters high, lies at the western end of the GRAMPIAN Mountains in the Scottish Highlands.
Not trying to be a smart ass, just wanted to add some perspective, and link the name GRAMPIAN, which has an interesting etymology.

Holy smoke. That place looks downright ominous and intimidating. I was trying to figure out where it was without looking it up, and couldn't do it. All that wind, it might have been the Himalayas for all I could tell. Olive appears to be awed, and at the same time respectful of her surroundings. One lucky dog to be going on these excursions. I bet any time you go outside now, she gets all excited and wants to go with. Looks like she's in her element here. Anyway, I did look it up, and for some reason, Scotland does not come to mind when I think of places like this, so I learned something. Those last scenes were beautiful. I'm sitting here in Bismarck, North Dakota, with hardly a hill to be seen. :)

I just finished reading of this walk in your book and had to come and watch it. By the way, non dog owners read your books too!

Hi Andrew. Reading your book( bought, being enjoyed) and realistic about the likelihood of you reading comments on old videos !
Available on CZcams is a model railway set in Scotland created over the last 40 years by a very talented Dutchman, Ted Polet. The Craigcorrie and Dunalistair. Lots of very beautiful cameo scenes which embody the landscape in this video. You might enjoy it
    Happy new year
