Luvin that TZR 250 I remember them well when they came out, wicked little bikes! Also well done for calling it a T Zed R rather than a T Zee R !!

Awesome machine. I am a South African, now living in Canada. Had an RD350 LC in SA. Always wanted a TZR250! Beautiful machine, thank you for the video.

DAMN YOU CANADIANS! Yes, you definitely got the most awesome two-stroke street bikes. The RZ500, the TZR 250, etc. I envy you folks SO much! Here in the 'States, we got the RZ 350 with - believe it or not - catalytic converters...the first motorcycles sold in the U.S. to have them. A buddy of mine had one of these bikes (the yellow and black Kenny Roberts edition) and it was SO much fun. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for little two-stroke street bikes. Your TZR is gorgeous!

You didn’t mention that this bike was virtually the GP racer that Yamaha was selling at the time: direct to crankcase carburetors, an oil pump supplying oil to the gearbox to lubricate the gears under pressure reducing friction and, of course, water cooling and electronic ignition.

The original export market TZR250s were blue as per your brochure, and came out sometime in 1987 in my country (Australia) as I recall. They were selling at the same time the final model fully faired Yamaha RZ350s in Yamaha's Red & White scheme similar to your TZR were still available. The TZR250 released concurrently with or just months before Kawasaki's stunning KR-1, and about a year before Suzuki's RGV250K. A looker and superb to ride, nevertheless Yamaha's RZ350 still outshone the more modernly styled TZR. I had the opportunity to ride all of the above, and much much later fulfilled my desire buying a NEW final export production model Suzuki RGV250T, which I still own alongside my RG500 Gamma. Although the first to release, the TZR was down on power compared with both the KR-1 & RGV. They were all excellent motorcycles in their class, and one couldn't be unhappy owning and riding any of them. Getting long in the tooth these days, although not my only bike, as my choice illustrates I love pocket rockets. Much rather ride them for leisure than any four stroke capacity regardless (been there done that in my time).

Still one of the best looking bikes ever made IMHO.

I used to have an '87 TZR250 back in 93-99. Loved it to death. It was an ex production race bike, so it had a few mods like pipes and carbies.

I had the same ones. it was 2000 when I was 15 years old and drove a 250 cc for the first time, I was so happy that even today when I see that engine I am very very very happy. I live in British Columbia and maybe we can meet sometime. mainly I wish you good luck with that machine and drive safe 🙋
