I am an older guy and have hunted public land or private farm land all my life until this year. This was my first High fence hunt, for Red Stag and you are correct, a lot harder then I thought. I did manage to get one on the last day though. The most important part, was spending time with old friends and having a good time. I always thought the High fence was easy and unethical also, until this year. We were all out for red stag and one guy changed to a really nice Axis instead, because they were really sticking to the thick woods after a couple of them were shot.

I've been on 2 high fence hunts; one in ohio for wild boar and one with my son for fallow deer in Pennsylvania. They were 2 of the toughest hunts I've ever been on. Really opened my eyes. Im going on my 3rd in central pa this spring. BTW fallow deer are amazingly tasty

A buddy who works on High Fence Ranch said he thinks feeding them with protein has made the meat taste funny,,,,,true or false, i dont know, but it kinda makes sense,, I do have a problem with some ranches that buy game on Wild-life buyer for a 1,000 and sell the hunt the next day for 5,000.. That animal is lost on a new ranch, that doesnt seem sporting to me. I had some Axis coming in on my Ranch in Hill Country,,,until FEB 2021,, that cold spell killed a ton of them,,, whitetails also. I had a Buck that looked like death, he got caught in a fence or hit by a car,,,in anybody;s book a cull, i fed him cattle cubes and lots of corn, the next year he was a Huge 8 pt, biggest on the Ranch and i got the video to prove it. Watch my video on you=tube Deer Rock N Roll Texas NO 18 and NO 20,,look at the ANKLE,, its the same Buck, back right ankle.. The Deer have got so used to me i hand feed them, see Spikey on 19#,,,adios
