    My first flute was just a basic student flute and then I got my pre professional flute (after 5 years of playing) my sound was so much better and it was WAY fancier. My student flute was just basic and there was nothing special about it but my new flute had a b footjoint and a D sharp roller and open holes it is solid silver except for the head joint which is gold/silver alloy with a 19k riser and it has a split E mechanism and a C sharp trill key and offset g. I love my new flute so much.

    Also with C# trill key, you can play high G# in a veeeeeeery small dynamic (finger med G and add the key). You can also trill high G/A by using both A key trill and C# :) very useful! I wouldn't trade this key for anything in the world

    Thank you for creating this video. Very informative. Would you consider doing a video on the different lip plate styles with characteristics of sound using different metals and cut? For instance what is a traditional lip plate vs P or Piedmont and N or Newbury. Using different metals for the riser, whole tube, and what are the characteristics of each. Thank you.

    There's a slight error at 2:10, where you were talking about the C# trill but was pressing the B key lever and not the C# trill key lever. It was so quick that I had to go back again to catch it. But great video!

      @@markthefluteguy2108 yes you are right. gina made this error. i was really confused at the beginning and realized this only after having a look at my new flute with a c trilll key built-in.

  • @kiaraeijo

    This was very informative! My Altus has a split e and I have found that for me it helps with my high e. I don’t have a C# trill so what I do for the high G to Ab trill is that I finger high G and I only lift my left index finger or I finger high g and I use both existing trill keys😊❤️🎶🎼

    • @GinaLuciani
      @GinaLuciani  Před 6 lety +1

      There are definitely a lot of trick fingerings that help a lot! The trill key makes it easier but it's definitely not impossible without them :)

    Hi, Gina! Are you aware of any non-handmade flute models that have the option to have both the D# and C# rollers? There are only a few non-handmade models I have found that even offer the D# roller, but none that offer the C# roller. In fact, Yamaha seems to reserve even the D# roller for their handmade flutes.

    Hey Gina, I had a question I was hoping you could answer. Is it possible to get a D# roller key added later on? Like a repairman take off the old one and put one with a roller on. And if so, would it be expensive?

    • @PooMonkeyMan
      @PooMonkeyMan Před 5 lety

      Depending on the level of flute (student, intermediate, etc.) most places won't do it because the costs to produce wouldn't be worth it. If your flute was a handmade model, then they may be willing to make you a new D# key with the roller. But... Another option is find a flute that's the same model is as yours, and just cannibalise the part and swap them.

    why is her embouchure always kinda sideways?? Like she doesnt use the middle of her lips and no one talks about it

    • @GinaLuciani
      @GinaLuciani  Před 6 lety +5

      Thanks for the observation Betty. Many people have offset embouchures (and just different types of embouchures in general since everyone's lips are different!). Take for example the great Rampal! It's also not just flute, people that play different woodwind and brass instruments will sometimes have offset embouchures as well. Ultimately, as long as the embouchure isn't hindering the person's playing (which your private teacher can determine), it is 100% ok to have a different type of embouchure.

    How do you get rid of flute tarnish

    • @GinaLuciani
      @GinaLuciani  Před 4 lety

      Try using a micro-fiber cleaning cloth on it. If that doesn't work, your flute shop will be able to fix it for you!
