POOL AREA REVEAL and Full Steam Ahead in the GITE - 'Chateau de Bruges' - Ep 29 - Renovation

- Another Sunday, another weeks progress, another Chateau de Bruges vlog!
But… before I tell you what’s gone on this week at the chateau, I must highlight the importance of next Friday! 31st March 2023 marks ONE YEAR of being at the chateau! Next weeks video (Sunday 2nd April - 7:30pm French Time) will be a special edition to take a look back at all of the progress we have made over the last 365 days at the chateau! It’s a video I am really looking forward to putting together and sharing with you all! Make sure you are subscribed and have clicked the notification bell to be sure you don’t miss it!
Right, back to this week’s progress…
With an extra pair of hands at the chateau this week (Thanks Chris!) and Dad’s back feeling a little sorry for itself, we decided to tackle the Gite as a team and WOW did we get some work done!
Not only have we insulated and plaster boarded the ceiling, we have done two coats of filler to seal the joints and levelled the floor. Chris, our superb helper this week, also made light work of the kitchen cupboards ready to have them installed hopefully in a couple of weeks!
Jake and Danielle even made time to finish a little job in the King Charles room!
With a lot of repetitive jobs happening in the gite, we didn’t film everything. However, it felt like a good time to show you our proposed plans for the future swimming pool and outdoor kitchen/dining area as well as the already approved grand entrance for the chateau grounds.

i hope you have a big rose garden to look especially good in spring and a colourful dahlia garden to look especially good in autumn and a marvellous camelia Japonica garden to look wonderful in Winter. and IF the soil is suitable then a rhododendrom garden would look majestic to suit the Chateau. And would allow you to have lovely floral arrangements in season in the chateau. All flowered thus sourced on site.

The plans all look amazing. As someone who doesn’t want to be in the sun other than while swimming, I would appreciate if the lounge area was covered rather than a pergola. At our community pool we have areas covered with sun cloth that can be taken down off season. It’s easier than trying to stay under an umbrella.

Lovely plans! I am new to your channel, and quite enjoying catching up!
Just a couple of quick ideas (which might be too late or totally impractical so please pardon my random musings):
1. Would it even be possible to locate a swim-up bar in the pool area?
2. I saw a hotel build in the Caribbean where they put in a very successful brick pizza oven in the outdoor cooking area. Perhaps this might be a viable addition?
3. Would horseback riding or carriage/sleigh riding during the holiday season be something you’d consider offering down the line? Of course, this requires a barn and access/to bridle paths and roadways.
4. Of course, horses would require a full barn. But chickens not so much. Would you consider raising laying chickens to help supply the chateau with fresh eggs? Perhaps lambs? Or a milk cow? The barn would need to be a reasonable distance from the main building (smell), so that is a consideration as well.
5. Perhaps a golf putting green that guests could leisurely practice at?
6. Maybe you can add a place in your outbuildings specifically for wedding ceremonies (not just the receptions)?
Just a few ideas!
For the first time in my life, I have zero responsibilities keeping me tied to home - except my failing health. What I wouldn’t give to volunteer! My father, RIP, worked his entire life as a construction foreman and was an utter perfectionist. I like to think some of this rubbed off on me as well! For a paralegal, I’m pretty good at taping, sanding, and mudding walls, sewing drapes, upholstering, and make a quite good packable picnic brunch!

2. We plan to have a pizza oven in the outdoor kitchen.
3. We have some friends locally we can offer horse & cart learning experiences :)

Firstly Merlin is adorable ! next the pool is huge, just wondering if the green on your plan is grass or artificial grass, just saying artificial grass gets incredibly hot underfoot. Pool area looks like a resort, dimensions look huge.
And New entry & gates looks inviting.

I really love your blogs and progress that you have made. Truly you are all such hard workers and demonstrate a real commitment. Regarding the pool plans, I’ve read all the positive comments. I probably won’t get any thumbs up on my comment but I think the plans are too modern.
The pool itself is fantastic. It’s the bar area and seating area that I believe need some tweaking. The area you have designed looks like everything I see (new construction) here in the USA. As an American I love France and have traveled there many many times. I find Chateaus like yours so enchanting and have stayed in many. The dining and bar area around the pool area should somehow feel warm, cozy, and French. I have a vision in my head but am probably not doing a very good job explaining. Anyway please understand I think you are doing a fantastic job and this is simply my opinion.
Also I’m sending you via e mail a picture of my pool and dining area I want to create someday

As with the rooms in the chateau, we aim to design the space to provide the comfort of modern luxury while still expressing some chateau features throughout. 😇

The plans for the new pool and the whole area look fantastic! To make this accessible for most people be sure to have steps that are short not regular height. 4 inches is ideal for most people who have back, knee or other accessible issues. Most pools are created for people who are in the peak of health. But most pools are actually used by people of all abilities. Back, knee, and other common issues are the reality for most people. 4 inch steps are also ideal for children. The plans for the whole area really are terrific! I think your arial shots are all way to fast. There is not enough time to orient oneself to the cardinal view let alone see and appreciate anything in the shot. They go by so fast I cannot even stop the video in time to view in paused mode.
Sorry Mej, they’re the same ones we used most weeks as our intro so most people are used to them by now. Every now and then I include Ariel shots during the video which are slower and on for longer.
