  • France's Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has said a teenage girl will be sued by the state for falsely accusing her headteacher of striking her in a heated exchange over her wearing an Islamic head-covering.
    The head teacher insisted that the pupil remove her head-covering inside the school, in accordance with French law.
    He resigned after death threats circulated on social media.
    The Islamist threat to French schools is taken extremely seriously since the murder of two teachers.

    Quite a few years ago, here in Australia, a Muslim woman, in full burka, was pulled over by a police officer for a random breath test. He asked her to lift her head gear so he could ID her with her photo and she went on to cry " rape". It went to court, this woman had her extended family outside the court abusing the police, only to leave with their tails between their legs when video evidence, from the police vehicle, proved her wrong. She was charged with making false allegations. These people think they are above the law and somehow think their religion can save them from their wrong doings.

    As a lifelong agnostic, I have very little time for _any_ organised religion. However, the thing that should be said is that I feel zero threat from any organised religion, bar one. If I were a public figure and publicly castigated Jesus, or Moses, or Krishna, or Buddha, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, it’s very likely nothing would happen to me. If I publicly slagged off Muhammad, it’s quite likely there’d be a backlash and I’d be watching my back for the rest of my life. _That’s_ the difference. Just ask Salman Rushdie or the Batley teacher still in hiding 3 years after showing a caricature! Imagine living in a society where certain people are so offended by a cartoon, they threaten death to the person who showed it! For some reason, certain prevalent strands of Islam can’t take honest criticism, when it’s just a bunch of manmade ideas like all the rest.

      I feel the same way as an atheist. Every religion has it's extremists but Islam, at this point in history, has the most violent people in it's grasp and it generally comes from countries that are more backward, with views from Medieval times (e.g. Afghanistan, Iran, Yemen, Somalia). It's just not acceptable that anyone should think they have the right to take someone life, period, let alone over something as nonsensical as made up beings in the sky (supported by handpicked sections of religious text from thousands of years ago). Absurd. Why come to a free, Western country if you wish to practise Medieval-style intolerance and violence?

      @@skullsaintdead Yeah, the thing about organised religion is that quite obviously it should be a private matter and not intrude the lives of those of us who find it anathema. Too often, Islam does this. It intrudes. I get that from no other organised religion: just Islam. 👍

      @@titteryenot4524To be fair, as a woman (and someone that's bi, though more asexual, with lots of gay friends) Christianity definitely intrudes on my rights (e.g. if you're a woman in the US re: abortion; I'm Australian so it's not as bad) but in terms of terrorism and violence, Islam seems to be the worst of all the religious groups atm (and this changes through history, like in 1500s, you'd probably say Christianity because of Henry VIII and Church of England's break from Rome, and all the killings that took place over that). I 100% agree with your first sentence though, people practicing in their own homes, not oppressing others rights or trying to harass and/or assault, even kill them, is fine, just don't burden others with your faith.

    • @titteryenot4524
      @titteryenot4524 Před měsícem +15

      @@skullsaintdead Great points, well made. You’re right about Christianity in certain places (most obviously, the US). I overlooked that. However, the thing with Islam is that I fear its aggressiveness in the sense that if I don’t toe _its_ line, there will be consequences. Quite possibly violent consequences. As I outlined in my OP. Even a damn caricature and certain Muslims are up in arms! It’s ridiculous, notwithstanding I’m aware that representing Muhammad pictorially is forbidden. I don’t care if it’s forbidden. I’m not a Muslim and if I wanted to show a picture of Muhammad, Islam should be able to cope with this. It just comes across as immature and so unsure of itself, in this regard. The literalist thing is deeply off-putting, too. That’s a big difference with much of modern-day Christianity: Muslims, by and large, take their ‘holy’ text quite literally. At least a good bulk of contemporary Christians have ditched the literalist thing when it comes to the Bible. (Leaving aside the US Bible Belt cranks!)
