  • The Irwin Sailboat DIY Restoration Project Week 37 Episode 61 is repairing, sanding and prepping the deck in final preparations to prime and paint the deck. We are trying to get this done before the heat and the rain comes straight for us. But, the wind is NOT cooperating!

I really admire your patience with teaching the boys. Aidan has certainly got a lot of natural talent, he will become a fine shipwright. Great videos, I have been binge watching every episode.

I think if you are going to before you have the insides done just do a good job of the primer coat then do the inside that you will be protecting the outside once you have completed the inside do the outside

Have you a cost estimate for the restoration of the boat? Any idea how long it is going to take? I would think painting is one of the last jobs to do. You still have the entire interior to do which involves moving stuff across the deck that can lead to scraps and dings.

Definitely tons of considerations going into each step. We often feel a bit trapped between objectives because completing one thing will impede or hinder the next. As it stands we have windows and hatches and through-hills that all need to go in and should paint before we do any of those. If we have to touch things up after interior installations, par for the course.
As for the budget, obviously the number keeps growing, so we won’t really know what the bottom line is going to be until we at least get some of these bigger systems put in.

@@theazimuthadventure2138 I can see the want and advantage of getting the topside/hatches/windows all done and sealed up too so no more water gets in before getting to the interior. Either way you guys are gettin it! Also Andrew, you reminded me of Bill Murray in some of his 80s movies when you were stuck under the plastic...I laughed 😂
