Study Finds Reduced Radiation for HPV Oropharyngeal Cancer Patients To Be Effective

  • Dr. Daniel Ma, radiation oncologist and research chair at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, conducted Phase II and Phase III clinical trials to determine if reduced doses of radiation successfully eliminate cancer while preserving the patients’ quality of life. The Phase III randomized clinical trial found that reducing radiation doses by as much as half can not only be successful in destroying cancerous tumors; it reduces debilitating side effects.
