    Wow...I can't believe you brought up a sore throat! I've had one off and on for the past 3 weeks. I am just starting my 4th week of radiation.

    I think that it is amazing that Katie answers each comment personally. I commented during my radiation treatment and appreciated her answer. I declined the week of boost, and probably wouldn’t have had a breast left if I’d completed it. My breast got so bad, it looked like a pan fried chicken breast with crispy fried skin that all later peeled off. I had the radiation all during September, and now in November am so thrilled that I’m no longer in pain. Because my skin was so severely burned, I don’t have much discoloration because it all peeled off.

    Im so glad you spoke of back pain. I also had surgery on the left side so I complained about muscle spasm on the left side of my chest to
    my radiation oncologist and he denied it had to do with the radiation treatment.. Im in the stage of treatment of 2 more boosters left
    and Im so glad you spoke of effects that are after treatment.

    MY RADIATION RESULTED IN FAR MORE THAN JUST A SUNBURN TYPE SITUATION. I BLISTERED SO DEEP THAT MY SKIN NOT ONLY PEELED ALL THE WAY DOWN INTO THE EPIDERMIS BUT I WAS BLEEDING. I COULDN'T EVEN TRY TO PUT A BRA ON FOR WEEKS. I TRIED ONCE WHEN THE SKIN APPEARED TO BE HEALED BUT IT CHAFED RIGHT DOWN TO THE POINT WHERE IT WAS BLEEDING AGAIN. I STILL HAVE PAIN IN THE UNDERLYING MUSCLE OF MY ARMPIT & DOWN THE RIB CAGE TO A LINE PARALLEL TO THE LOWER PORTION OF MY BREAST. EVERY TIME IN LEAN FORWARD OR TURN OVER IN BED IT HURTS TO THE POINT WHERE I WAKE UP AND CAN'T GET BACK TO SLEEP. MY ARMPIT AND ENTIRE BREAST ARE COMPLETELY NUMB ON THE TOP LAYER OF TISSUE AND MY BREAST HAS BECOME SOME WHAT HARDENED. I FINISHED MY RADIATION TREATMENTS 5 MONTHS AGO AND I AM STILL SUFFERING GROWING SIDE EFFECTS. NO ONE, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE WARNED ME OF WHAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH. I WISH THAT DOCTORS WOULD BE COMPLETELY HONEST WITH PATIENTS, PARTICULARLY SOMEONE LIKE YOU WHO IS TELLING PEOPLE THESE MINIMAL SIDE EFFECTS WHEN WE COULD ENCOUNTER MUCH MORE. PLEASE START BEING HONEST WARN WOMEN THAT THERE CAN BE ADDITION SIGNIFICANT PAINFUL LONG LASTING SIDE EFFECTS. IF I HAD KNOW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE RADIATION TREATMENTS AT ALL. I MY CASE IT WAS SAID TO DECREASE THE CHANCE OF RECURRENCE BY ONLY 8% IT WAS NOT WORTH IT AT ALL !!!

      @katiedemingmd2226  Před 3 lety

      Hi Nitin - I am sorry, I am not sure I understand your question. Although, I will say that sore throat is not a common side effect during radiation for DCIS since it is usually the breast only that is being treated and not the lymph nodes.

    I just finished 21 treatments and had to pause as my chest looks like lava flowing out of a volcano. I have a 2nd degree burn near my collarbone and have had a very painful week. My doctor is expecting me to finish my 4 treatments next week. There’s no way given all the open wounds and the spread of peeling. Hoping that won’t be problematic!

    Truly I had the most (bizarre?) radiation experience… when I went for first treatment they had to do (tattoos?) it was injected with needle five of them and they didn’t tell me before was injection? Just poked needle was shocking.. when I actually went for the radiation I told myself the beams of light are beneficial let me call it (light therapy! Not radiation).. trust the staff they know..! But after first treatment kind of didn’t feel anything until next day electric shocks thru the breast woke me at night and the nipples was totally red and ring of dark around it… iff to felt like Chernobyl had occurred inside my chest and I could not go back

    • @katiedemingmd2226
      @katiedemingmd2226  Před 2 lety

      Some women report tenderness or pain in the breast after radiation. It is most common in the area of the lumpectomy site but can be elsewhere in the breast. you should check with your doctor if you are having ongoing pain.

      @@rowenaportugal7426 Sorry you’re going thru this. You aren’t alone. Cancer treatment docs don’t like to deal with post-treatment side effects oftentimes. I would encourage you to seek a referral to an oncology rehabilitation specialized PT or OT. There likely is help to improve your pain and function. You may benefit from a referral to Pain Management, too. Just because your situation is common doesn’t mean it’s acceptable. Please continue to advocate to get the care you need. 🌻

      Radiation is a local treatment and generally. does not cause hair loss on your head. It can cause hair loss in underarm area. If you are losing hair on your head, it could be a stress response.

    I hope my radiation oncologist gets the same reactions that I did because he was not nice to me at all. I was tired I had nausea and the last week of treatment my skin was blistered and I couldn’t even wear a bra it was so bad. My radiation oncologist did not care. He wouldn’t look at the blistered area and when I refused to have that area radiated the girls in the treatment room told me I had to. I firmly said no and if you radiate me there after I have told you not to that is assault and I will press charges. I also told them if the radiation oncologist had a problem with my decision to come talk to me and we would discuss that and his reasoning for not looking at my skin and not treatingmy nausea. He didn’t come down. Saw him the last week and he says oh my your skin looks awful we aren’t going to radiate that area anymore. No sh$& Sherlock! He wanted me to have the extra boost and I told him to shove it up his a$$ and I hoped if he ever got testicular cancer he got a radiation oncologist just like him.
