This was really a non-story. Inflation has hit every store.
I am a guy, and I am also a mechanic, so I do not do much of the buying in my house. The very few times that I ever went into Dollar General, even me, not at large buyer of goods, noticed that their prices were much higher than what I have seen in the more well known stores. There are Family Dollars where I live, and they are MUCH higher in price. They would be my last resort for shopping.
It's called inflation like every other store
Its out of control greed. No greedy person will inherit the kingdom of God .
It’s not just inflation. When a customer has a clear and concise price displayed on the shelf they can determine whether the price is higher or lower than prices of other stores a choose whether or not to shop there. Mystery shopping shouldn’t mean that you find out the price when you get to the checkout counter.
At least you don’t have to walk a mile to get in the store, nice when you’re old as dust.
Our DG is so jammed with "stuff" and poorly staffed that items are seldom maked with a price. We never go there expecting to save; only for convenience. Recently purchased some tooth paste off the "discount table". No price was marked. Then found it was $6 a tube. Aisles are blocked with boxes waiting to be stocked - in "general" the store is a mess. The store recently installed two self checkouts and now they are inoperable - must be a story there.
Same thing at the store in my town.
I challenge anyone to find a working self checkout at a Dollar General.
@@belva0208 If you would take a second to ask the store manager-She/He would tell you that the corporate headquarters ordered all of the self checkout cunters closed. Permanently!! Why? Because of theft. Don't believe me? Then ask.......................
I wasn't aware of that. My stepdaughter no longer works for DG, and I don't shop there. Thanks for that information.
@@johnmartin9823 Wasn't aware of that. They only installed them a few weeks ago. What a waste. If mgmt was concerned with theft, maybe they should hire dedicated check out clerks instead of one employee holding down the entire store.
Haven't shopped at Dollar General but one time and I don't even remember the prices. Unless one entity owns all of the so-called dollar stores
Shame on them ! There are 3 DG stores within 12 miles of my home, however I only shop in them for that 1 or 2 items I need fast. It's no shock that their pricing sucks and they are not the best for the buck on the block.

I have their app and clip the coupons, but u also have to be careful and check your receipts. Many times it won't even take off the coupons that you clipped and still charge full price.
Who twisted there arms and made people shop there
It may be convient for a few things but walmart - save alot and aldy's is less expensive ! My small city has 3 DG stores ! Makes you wonder ?

Unfortunately it’s not convenience. It’s called a food dessert where people don’t have easy access to food. When you live far from an actual grocery store or lack access to transportation stores like this are there to exploit.
Their shelf tags and what scans at checkout do not match same as walmart

you can always go see if you can a parking space at walmart, fight the crowds then check yourself out
They sell smaller items that are far more expensive pre ounce,or pound etc. than buying a larger size for less per ounce/pound so you only think that your paying less,shop by how much per ounce/pound and compare!
They have coupons online, helps a bit.
Here's how you do it with Dollar General shut them down and never let them open again

Boycott DG everything in their story are $1 or $2 higher then grocery store chains! Very under staffed, nothing really on sale pay attention closely to your receipt.

If you're smart, you'll go on Saturdays and use the $5/$25 coupon in conjunction with the in app coupons, and scan your items for the correct price.
That's how you save at DG

I agree. However ive seen this happen. The prices on the shelf are one thing but when you check out the prices are different. They also have deals if you buy two packs of cigarettes, but they just still charge full price. Basically a bait and switch.

Seems like everyone is on the bad mouth DJ bandwagon. It is kind of ironic bad mouthing DJ-yet showing clips of Walmart and other stores in this video.
Are there going to be instances of incorrect pricing and expired merchandise? Yep-show me a store that doesn't have that problem. Bring it to the attention of the store manager and they will correct it. Don't like DJ? Very simple solution-Don't shop there. Every DJ store I shop at is short staffed-very much on truck day. Decdicated people work there. Are they perfect? No! Are you perfect? No! I use them because of their sales, bargains and $5.00 coupon's on saturday. It is cheaper for me to buy my named brand cat food from DJ, than it is from Walmart. Just got 3-12 pack cans of Dr Pepper from DJ for $9.00--two days ago. My 20 LB bag of purina cat food is $22.50 (W/tax). Much cheaper than Walmart. Are other items higher than nearby stores? Most likely. Are others items lower than nearby stores? Most likely. Try building something up, instaed of trying to tear it down. They are a very good store.
