    Disagree on test QA being taken over by this AI. It comes down to the whole QA process and developers / BA / Business Requirements and customer experience. Sure, there is a tool that can automatically pump out a test suite. How do you know the coverage is correct? Any developer who has read Business Requirement documents, etc. knows that there are many ways what is written can be interpreted, and even the requirements can be wrong. Meaning the system can be signed off and not meet the original requirements. Part of QA and auditing systems is to find these issues. And the amount of information needed / experience is something that an AI will not have. Will it help, sure. But, I see a lot of companies coming out with poor products if they pin their hopes on this.
    Plus, this AI is a massive security risk. Especially if it is going out on the internet to build it's "knowledge" - people can track what it is up to. So, if you have an idea you are looking to get to market would you trust using these AI applications to help with research? I think not.
    I see these as a tool that will find it's place in IT but like robots it will have set roles it does and does well and to a known quality. It will still take a highly skilled workforce to complete quality products at the end. As there are many parts of the process robots cannot do. Just ask Elon and Tesla when they thought they could automate everything - it was found it could not be done.
    And don't get me started on writing code - there are already a lot of products out there to help developers be more efficient (I remember days of VT420 screens) and using vi / sed to get stuff done. And have old guys tell me about punch cards / ticker tapes to run programs. I see AI as just another tool to help - and I have worked in AI / ML for years and know under the hood what goes on - not what a lot of people think it is.

      Very useful insight and thank you for sharing these in depth insight. Ofc not all aspect of testing will be replaced and Cyber will be more important than ever given all these newer potential risk. Which will bring new teams that will focus on these.
      From my observation especially at big techs -> a lot of teams are already removing designated teams for pure testing/QA. These teams' responsibilities are allocated back to the developers or system level's team. So we will still have software engineers and teams building testing frameworks aka internal tools. Here for QA I am especially targeting manually testers/weekend testers. Or roles that they may be looking at your code and point out what the issues may be and what test you have to write.
      Elon and his team are still focused on reaching L4 self-driving :).

      I also agree. If QA people can be replaced, why developers can't be replaced ? If QA process could be replaced by some algorithm, it would have happened already because tools for creating test cases are present for very long time. There is a big hype on ChatGPT, but this technology was present and employed by big tech companies for a long time. I remember that my company utilized AI for code reviews like 7 years ago. ChatGPT is exceptional because it reached the public, it was trained with far larger amount of random data. This is why it became so popular.
      Maybe at some point it will replace people but at the moment I think it lacks of creativity, it will struggle to solve problems which are new. And here is the main point. If there is some development happening, it is because someone wants to create something new or create a better solution for an old problem. This implies that new approach for implementation will happen and for testing as well. I agree, it will help a lot but not replace anyone, at least not very soon. I just have an impression people got crazy about ChatGPT because most of the people didn't know this technology is working. They were not aware that they have been reading articles created by AI, listening to music created by AI for many years. Today everybody talks about AI. You can hear about ChatGPT among people who are cooking, aquarium hobbyists, motorization hobbyists, layers, plumbers and so on :D
      There are parts for both processes which can be automated, but not all of it.

    • @xiaoyi982
      @xiaoyi982 Před rokem +1

      Nice insight. I believe it's hard for AI to completely replace a role in a field even for manual testing. At the end of the day humans will be the locus of responsibility, that means AI can do a stellar job as it likes, but still needs to be understood and signed off by humans, and when it goes wrong, as it always does, someone shall take responsibility for it.
      That being said, a practical point of view for people trying to make career decisions is that AI doesn't need to completely replace the job to stress you out, simply devaluing some of the current skills can cause enough stress, like before google days network people with good memory remembering thousands of commands had good advantages, but when googling became common the playing field was leveled.

As we have more AI models, we may need model data infra to provide large scale high quality data. 2. SDE who works on full stack to build AIGC application. I think you are on to something about the Data Scientist role. The role isn't clearly defined, every company defines the role differently. There has been on occasion CZcamsrs who are Data Scientist professionals claim to perform similar task to what a Machine Learning Engineer would perform, yet they don't have heavy SQL skills. So where do they gather their data from? Also, aren''t the roles completely different from one another? Maybe you could clear up some of these points? But I could be wrong but it seems the role won't last long especially now with this recession.

    Tech/Software architects is the hardest to substitute, i think.
    Some one have to make the decisions based of subjective reasoning, and there is need of some one the be responsible. IA can't have the responsibility.

    Tge safest seems to be job in physical datacenter. Someone must walk with these cables 😂 I guess system maintenance with high level of understanding of processes (sysadmin, network engineer) are safe. Devops with usage of autokation tools such as ansible and terraform. AI can do it but still there must be its architect eho understands what and how must be automated. In general I think infrastrucutre/operations will be safe. Programmers job will become super boring. No creativity, just fixing code written by AI. Kind of QA with programming language. Certainly OS developers, all these people from programming kernel and so on are safe, thats extremely hard job though, requiring big knowledge, high level math understanding. Similar with REAL cybersecurity. It's high level networking, sysadmin, understanding cryptography (math) plus programming if it comes to sexurity on application level. So I would say original core of IT is safe.

    I expect AI will spawn more jobs, not fewer. Yes there will be change, but that was always the case. I was a master at VBScript, an obsolete skill now. Did I go on unemployment? No, I re-tooled, same as the rest of you will do. The alternative is stagnancy, or something even worse like out of Anthem.

    The bottom line is this, we live in a highly capitalistic society (in the US at least). The US economy cannot afford millions of working-age, formally high-earning, educated Americans being out of work. The economy would completely collapse. If all things remain equal with how this country operates, AI will only displace a small number of jobs, and become a valued assistant to most others.

    • @edthelazyboy
      @edthelazyboy Před 6 měsíci +2

      I don't have much hope and I really hope I'm wrong here. Just because we have a problem doesn't mean it will limit and control itself. Maybe, millions of formally high-earning, educated Americans will be out of work for good. The US goverment doesn't seem capable of being able to manage the erosion of the middle class to begin with. The wealth inequality just keeps getting worse for decades. We also have cost of living inflation, stagnant wages, student loan, and housing affordability crises that seems to keep getting worse. These problems are not just in the US, but in other developed countries too. Maybe we might start to have public housing and universal basic income since so many upper middle class jobs are gone in the future along with the middle class jobs already gone. However, given the track record, I think our society we know today is simply going to cease to exist. It's really sad to think like this.
