    I bought the Roomba J7+ because of your review on it. When you said that its home base is as powerful as it is I knew I had to get it. I have three LARGE Shepskie dogs. They shed A LOT, to the point where I'd have to be sweeping multiple times a day if I didn't want to see little clumps of hair. It cleans my floors great and that mess detection is awesome! Yesterday my dogs spilled some dog food on the floor and the Roomba was nearby so it just so happened to see it and it vacuumed it all up, went to the home base, emptied itself and returned 6 times! Plus, the peace of mind that it won't run over poop is so great!

Even the button on the Dyson bin to dump out the waste still works! It goes back on just as easily. Its also quieter and has a far superior filtration. The firmware upgrade for the J3+ has secured it's place in my house for years to come. Prior to the upgrade the i3+ was an all or nothing proposition. It still doesn't support "no go zones", but that simply encourages me to keep tangle prone items off the floor. And owning cats, is less precarious than being a dog owner, but I do have to risk the occasional "hairball" mess.
    My master bathroom is where the litter box is, and it's so nice to simply send the robot out to the bathroom once or twice a day to pickup stray litter that the cats have left across the bathroom floor.
    My two i3+'s are stationed up stairs and downstairs. Each one cleans it's entire floor 3 times a week. But the upstairs one cleans the bathroom twice daily. Very sweet. And with the auto empty bin, it's very hands off. The i3's for me are what I consider "entry level". The 600 series is great for what it was, and is pretty bullet proof. But it is about as subtle as a bull in the china shop. iRobot could slow down those robots if they chose to, because my i3 is much less aggressive in it's taps, but they choose not to. The i3 just offers so much more than the 600 series. You get about 90% of what the j7 and S9 do at a much lower price.
    IMHO the S9 should only be considered for homes which are nearly completely carpeted or have heavy carpet. The J7 should be for pet owners, and people with children.
    But if you are not a pet owner that is in danger of a household mess, and don't have a lot of small kids continually taking stuff out and leaving it on the floor, then the i3 will fill almost all your needs.

      So, I know you can't designate No Go zones, but can you limit the size of a room so that it never goes on a certain side or past a certain point? Thanks

    • @pcjabber
      @pcjabber Před rokem

      @@NoNameFish247 If the area is big enough, you could create a "room" out of the side you don't want it to go to, then exclude that from your vacuuming (kinda manual though...you wouldn't be able to use "Vacuum Everywhere" and prevent it from going into that "room."
      Other than that, you'd have to keep it physically blocked off (mine doesn't traverse objects over 1-2" tall, as long as they're heavy enough to not get pushed around), or use the Virtual Wall devices (at $50 each, they're pricey, but you can find compatible aftermarket units for around half the price) -- it seems Roomba *will not* cross a Virtual Wall line, period (AFAIK, the camera models *will* navigate through No-Go Zones if necessary to get to another room, but will not vacuum there).
      My i4+EVO (Costco model, just the i3+EVO with a larger battery) will get within about 1 ft of the Virtual Wall "line" & turn itself around. It keeps approaching that area to clean as much as it's "allowed to," but no part of it has ever crossed the line in my testing so far (even the spinning brush).

    • @williamthomas6106
      @williamthomas6106 Před rokem

      @@NoNameFish247 You can divide the space in multiple "rooms" and then tell it to clean just that area. The divisions can only be from "wall to wall" so you can't designate a "room" in the center of a space, but if you want to divide the space into multiple sections and give it different names, you can.
      Just realize it's not "perfect". It still relies on internal navigation, so it's going to sometimes go past those boundaries. And if you ever choose to "clean everywhere" it will clean all spaces it can find wall to wall.

    Currently a Neato D7 owner (owned a Neato Botvac Connected before that) that gets used in a mid-size, single floor house that is roughly 50% carpet, 50% hard floors. I have an iRobot Braava Jet m6 and a Dyson V15 Detect+ that I use as well.
    For the most part, I have been happy with the my D7, it has worked well (especially with the ability to create No Go zones). It's LIDAR based system, large bin, decent battery size, and strong suction has done a great job at keeping the house clean. But it falls short with its lack of object detection, its inability to self-empty its bin, and its height due to the top mounted LIDAR prevents it from cleaning certain areas (under furniture and china cabinets). I try to run mine multiple times a week and each time it can collect enough to fill the bin after every single run (mostly cat hair). With my frequent use, I am now reconsidering a replacement that empties its own bin. And with a kid and cats that like to leave stuff strewn about the house, I always have to make sure that every single item is picked up and out of the way so as to not foul up the D7. Sometimes a kitty likes to pull out a toy afterwards and leave it in the path, causing the D7 to jam and stop. So obstacle detection would be great.
    I was waiting patiently to see if the new Neato D10 would have any major improvements that would check off these requirements, but it does not (plus I've read it has had a lot of bugs in its release, despite being delayed for over a year). I really like the S9+, similar profile to the Neato, strong suction, larger coverage, and it self-empties. But it lacks obstacle detection. The J7+ has obstacle detection, but has a smaller coverage and lacks some other capabilities of the S9+.
    The S9+ appears to be overdue for a replacement. Here's hoping they release an updated model that incorporates some of the updates from the J7+ along with further improvements of the existing S9+. If they do this, they will most likely be getting a sell from me. I will then be able to link it to my iRobot Braava Jet m6 and get more use out of it.

    Just set up and ran the I three vacuum for the first time and it did such a lousy job! It missed a lot of spots, went into two rooms and only swept one time then left. It finally went back to its base and struggled to roll back into it. Then it got clogged up trying to suck up debris for very first time. The app told me to unscrew several screws at the bottom of the base to clean it out, but there was nothing in the base. It was caught in the flapper of the vacuum cleaner itself. I pulled some of the debris out of the vacuum and tried to put it on the base to see if it would suck up but it didn’t respond. Not sure if I can pull remove the bottom of the vacuum to manually remove the debris myself because I was too frustrated to deal with it! Before taking it back to the store, I decided to give it one more but but still it didn’t clean up everything. I just have wood floors so it should not be that hard.
    My little 600 (?) that I got years ago is still ticking. It lost the ball that goes behind it but it still pulls itself along the floor vacuuming up stuff without scratching up the floors.
    At least I can dump the debris out myself and see if it’s sucked up anything valuable.
    AnyWho, I’m not that impressed with the new models!

    - Shark Classic Anti Hair Wrap Upright Pet Vacuum NZ801UKT
    - Miele Complete C3 Pure Red Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner - C Rated
    - Dyson V7 Absolute Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
    Information:
    -I live in 1 room at uni, which is mainly carpet. But I do want the vacuum to last and maintain good suction for as long as possible for when I move into a bigger place.
    -The main thing I am looking for is for the vacuum to be able to pick up my long hair balls from the carpet (i don't know how they get there haha). I have no pets.
    -Which do you think will be easiest to store?
    -I’m not sure if bagless is easier? I don't want to be buying extra things. (Are any of these even bagless?)
    -Budget is below £300 (I am in UK)
    Thank you :)

    Great video, I actually collect vacuums, I currently have 64 of them, and one robot, the Neato XV12, still works great but wanting to get some current robot vacuums. I ordered the new Roborock S7 Max V, the ultra version with the empty and wash station isn't available yet so hopefully I can get the station later, regardless, the S7 max v has all the same robot features. I'm also looking at the Ecovacs X1 Omni. A review of both of those robots would be great if you can get them. I'm also thinking of getting a Roomba and I'm torn between the s9 or the j7, I know the S9 is more powerful but the J7 is newer, I just wonder if the J7 would clean as well as the S9. I have all hard floors, no carpet, and no pets, so pet hair and pet waste are not issues. It looks like the J7, even though it's newer is actually cheaper.

Did one cleaning cycle so far and it does seem to clean really well, I'm not sure why Irobot didn't use the same vacuum motor as the S9, that would really have been awesome. My Roborock s7 Max V has shipped so looking forward to trying that, I'm not sure if it comes from China or if they have a warehouse here. I still might get the S9, that robot has such a powerful vacuum motor but the Roborock might actually have more power, not sure.

      @@VacuumWars I can't wait to see your review of the Roborock S7 Max V, I'm up to 6 robot vacuums now and that one is one of the best, if not the best. I've decided not to get the Roomba S9, although it's powerful and cleans well, the battery life is terrible, especially if you run it on the max power setting which is how I run all of my bots, I figure if it has the power why not use it? The Roomba J7 is ok but it's navigation is not as good as lidar bots, there's no way around it, Lidar bots navigate better. I also picked up a Roborock S4 Max, that one doesn't have the mop feature but it's an excellent robot vacuum. I definitely understand now why Roborock gets such great reviews, their bots are excellent. Another robot I recently got is the Eufy Robovac X8, that's Eufy's top of the line model, it is excellent. The other bots I've gotten recently are the Neabot Q11, that's a really nice bot as well, the Lidar is on the front instead of on the top, and last but not least, I got the Dreametech L10, it's very similar to the Z10 but without the auto empty dock. For me the auto empty feature is nice but not a requirement. I currently have two auto empty bots, the Roomba J7 and the Neabot Q11. I was thinking of getting one of the Ecovacs X1 models but based on the reviews I've seen and the high price, I think I'm going to hold off on that. One bot I'm looking at getting is the Trifo Lucy pet edition, it's a camera bot but it sounds really interesting.

    I wish you would stop saying that battery life is irrelevant! IT IS NOT!!! I have had a Roborock S4 for 3-4 years now, and it has consistently taken approx. 90 minutes to clean my first floor (approx. 2/3 carpeting, 1/3 hard floors), all on one charge. This past year, I bought an I6+, which took over SIX HOURS to complete my first floor. If no one was home, perhaps I wouldn't care how many times it had to recharge before it finished its task... But I'm retired, with two large, furry beasts (Golden Retrievers), so the vacuum must run daily. Yes, it did a better job of vacuuming my carpeting, but SIX HOURS of total annoyance, every day, was unbearable to both me and my dogs (Needless to say, I returned it!)
    Because of its more powerful suction, the iRobot customer service told me to expect about 45 minutes of cleaning time on carpeting. That's a best-case number, so expect less. (My house needed the i6+ to recharge 2 additional times, just to do a single, complete cleaning.) The robot vacuum companies seem to have been concentrating all of their effort in the past few years in adding new features, but still have the old batteries and charging systems. They (and you) need to stop saying that battery life is irrelevant, and start using batteries with much greater mAh ratings and charging systems that take much less time to recharge their batteries!

Other than they make bank off of the bag sales. I also don't understand why they put the object detection on their mid-range product and not the high end one. The bags greatly reduce how much dust is released in the air. having a filter bag that can be sealed as it is removed from the clean base is a god send for people who are sensitive to dust. A removable "dust cup" from the clean base would still generate the same type of dust issues that comes from manually emptying the bin on the robots. So the bags make sense. And at around 6 bucks a bag for 60 full cleanings? A dime a cleaning? really?
      The S9 was released well prior to the J7. It's camera does not look forward, as much as it looks at around 30 to 45 degrees off horizontal. That camera was not intended for object avoidance. I expect the S9 to be replaced with the J9 (or something similarly renamed) with a forward facing camera, and when that releases, the S9 will be discontinued the same as the i7 was.

    RV always has opinions and today is no exception. My experience with the Roomba line is with the i8, Costco's version of the i7. I'll start out with the good. Yes, it has a solid feeling build quality and it does a nice job grooming carpet. And that's where the good ends. It is loud and very slow to clean and has navigation so bad it's painful to watch. Thanks to this inefficient navigation and slowness, it is much slower to clean the house than the Roborock and requires a charge when doing it. The clean base bag rarely needs emptying - to the point that I wonder where all the dirt is going. And did I already say it is loud? This will probably be my last Roomba.

    Two things I'd add to this summary.
    First: iRobot's integration with Apple's ecosystem is awful. It *was* abysmal, but the recent upgrade has made it merely awful. Unlike the Amazon and Google assistants, there's no way to use Siri to tell the robot to clean a specific room, favorite, or clean zone. The only thing you can do is tell it to "clean everywhere," which is virtually useless. The other assistants fully support cleaning specific places, and there is *NO REASON* that iRobot couldn't do the same. Neato does, for example. Some people will say that IFTTT is an alternative, but it is incomplete (you can have it clean rooms but not favorites or clean zones), and it's also too complex to set up for many people.
    Second: in addition to telling the Braava Jet M6 to start after the robot finishes, it's also worth mentioning that the J7+ and I believe the S9+ can actually share their maps with the mop. So, if you let the vacuum build a map of your house, your mop can inherit that map and all of the associated room names and so on. This is quite useful, and it worked great for me with my J7+ and Braava Jet M6.

    but not mentioning prices is annoying, i don't get why you don't. i understand over time the prices wil decline and thus they won;t be correct, though you can just say prices are correct at time of filming
    i hope you will review the new MaxV and Omni
    And a small one: Keep out zones where introduced a couple of years ago, theyre not new anymore

      He doesn't because prices change. Even braava has come down significantly since he made the first review video on it.

      @@andrewcbartlett I like that the s9 has 40x suction and a square front. It would do a better job with corners and carpets. Right now, Roomba has some top of the line features that they haven’t put together in one bot yet. Plus, I have the i7 and felt I didn’t have enough justification to upgrade to the j7.

      @@Dyanosis Lidar is a separate competing technology not used on the J7, it uses iRobot Genius Technology and PrecisionVision Navigation (that's a camera and AI to you). It has excellent room by room mapping with keep out zones and custom clean zones. The J7 has probably the best object avoidance capability such as cables and dog waste, using AI. It has no problem finding it's base after a clean. Your comment is at best misleading, at worst just wrong. If you're an unhappy customer perhaps you should study further how to use it.

    Roomba needs new models. I7 sucks at just vacuuming compared even to my old irobot 675. j7 is the same

    @smitty2jones Před 2 lety

    My i3+ has been trash since they added the selective mapping. It'll clean for the entire day and still not get the whole house until it runs out of battery or says it's stuck just sitting in the middle of the room.

      Same as the i7. It’s similar to the J7 but with none of the AI obstacle avoidance features. Don’t think they had the clean base self-empty either although iRobot has a kit to add it to i7s.
