Gnoggin, hosted by its creator Lockstin, is a show delving into the mysteries of Pokemon! (and other games sometimes too). Explaining everything there is to explain! Why is each Pokemon given the type it has? What are their origins? What is the lore of the Pokemon world and the design inspirations? And what does it all have to do with alchemy? Let's Go find out! - Hry
Oh, and as a heads up for everyone who doesn't follow me on Twitter @lockstin my health is horrible! So if there is a delay in videos in April (we have videos predone until then) then that's why.
Doctors are convinced is coronavirus as my symptoms line up perfectly, and I've tested negative for everything they could get me tested for.
I am autoimmune, which puts me in a higher risk category despite being young still. But I assume in the end I'll be fine.
In the meantime, I hurt a lot.
Stay safe out there, and treat this virus seriously. Reports are coming out of it leaving permanent lung damage even in the younger people who wouldn't likely die from it. Best wishes to all of you, and happy self-isolation-month!
i hope you be fine, everyone has to be optimistic and we will live through it .
Get well soon Man you are my favorite poketuber
ay good luck sir
Good luck
Permanent lung damage? Damn you, COVID-19! Even CZcamsrs are getting mutant SARS!
This doesn't even finish here. Ledian, the other Ladybug Pokémon, is based on a Super Hero. Orbeetle is based (partially) on a Super Villain...
THAT MAKES THIS EVEN COOLER
That makes me want a Ledian regional variant with a regional evolution even more.
I thought ledian was an alien... then again, so is superman
@@kennethbill6013 exactly ledian is also alien like and with the star moves and features. it reminds me of the heroes from yugioh
I mean Ledian kinda looks like hero out of Japanese hero shows like Ultraman or Power Rangers or Karen Rider. Bunch of them have a bug-like quality to their appearance.
@@PatManDX yeah this!
Me after watching your pokemon origins videos:
Is dragapult orbeetle’s predator?
Dragapult is based on a stealth bomber, designed to be undetected by radars
Orbeetle: straight up radar.
So dragapult could sneak up on orbeetle no problem?
Edit 0: dang thanks a lot of likes and comments!!!.
dragapult is the hero we need to defeat orbeetle, but it's been in hiding as a child so that's why it's so rare. BOOM!
I could see it, especially with Dragapult being part Ghost, so super effective against Orbeetles. I bet when Dreepys get older and less wimpy they bully Blipbugs! The monsters.
Orbeetle’s radar inspiration lend to its Psychic typing. Dragapult’s stealth bomber inspiration lend to its Ghost typing. Of course, Ghost beats Psychic.
Yup, headcannon, fkoff everyone else

You mentioning the Weather forecasting aspect of Orbeetle had me quickly look up Orbeetle's moveset. Can you believe it can't learn Weather Ball? Almost as sad as Revavroom not being able to learn U-turn.
Revavroom probably can use U-turn, it's just illegal.
There's a much easier way to make the British connection: Orbeetle is an evil space invader, and the UK is well known for a viciously invasive species of ladybug, the Harlequin ladybug. If you see a ladybug in the UK chances are it is a Harlequin. It's currently in the process of outcompeting local species!
... By mind control, of course
You also have the fact that Ladybirds were a favourite of some British monarchs, they're bought in bulk by farmers to remove aphids from their crops and (to tie to the book theme) the British publisher's, Penguin, have a brand of books for young children called "Ladybird"
I honestly thought you were gonna talk about the UK's colonization of half the world instead of an invasive species of ladybug.
@@deadaccount7303 That sure was a thing the UK did, but there's a time and a place for everything and this isn't it I think

There is one more reference I seem to be getting from Orbeetle. While yes, you seem to have nailed everything you mentioned, the face of the pokemon reminds me a lot of a Gundam. White faced, gold antennae, green eyes and a red bit between the eyes and it's chin which lines up with the mouth plate of a Gundam. And you bet your Rapidash that there's a Gundam out there that this thing resembles. What could be more nerdy than a Gundam Reference? Not sure if there's a connection to Great Britain with Gundam too, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
There is even a mech in the Gundam universe that has an airborne radome on it's head like Orbeetle called the RMS-119 EWAC Zack. It is a Zaku derivative, but the connection is still there.
It also makes me think of Gurren Lagann. Maybe it's the eyes and the super exaggerated body proportions? And its whole villain theme also makes me think of the Beastmen from TTGL
Its head does kinda look like the Atlas Gundam’s or the Narrative’s. I just hate the fin having those safetly nubs
@@PestoPla the Narrative was also a prototype for the Nu Gundam. Which is famous for having psychoframe technology which utilizes the psychic brain waves of its pilot

I'm going to be honest with you, I've been researching and obsessing over parasitoid wasps for the last two decades especially mind controlling ones (check bodyguard manipulation) and was hoping that some day we'll get a pokemon inspired by them but dammit I never ever realised Orbeetle was one... You sir are amazing for finding something even a lifelong bug lover couldn't see!
I'm genuinely curious, can I ask why you (along with others that study similar things as you) study Parasitic Wasps for that long?
It is some kind of interest or fascination from that part of Nature? Or is it something else?
@@spectral5939 Some people just have very specific interests that they find cool. I'm definitely intrigued.
@@spectral5939 Well parasitoid wasps are just some of the most fascinating animals, for example the wasp that mind controls ladybugs does it by injecting a virus into the ladybug which targets it's brain and makes the beetle's own immune system nuke parts of the brain! Coolest part is that the virus is actually part of the wasp and can only reproduce in a special organ inside it, it is believed that parasitoid wasps assimilated a virus millions of years ago and basically weaponized it! There are also wasps whose larvae develop into soldier castes inside the host to protect the rest of the larvae from other parasites! There are aquatic parasitoid wasps and the smallest known insect is also a parasitoid wasp that is smaller than some single celled organisms, honestly I can go on but you get the idea! :D
@@buggyboy2849 Thanks for sharing.
The Wasps that apparently weaponized a virus for their own use and single cell wasps is both creepy but interesting to me how wildly different and varying that species can be. I had no idea that there are other such varying types of wasps out there in such drastically different versions of themselves then the regular ones that I'm use to.
I have a big fear of any kind of Wasps and try to avoid them at all costs (no allergy just really don't like them personally). I only ever lived with you average wasp that just makes a nest in your shed during summer.
So I am glad that there are people like you who do enjoy learning and studying that sort of stuff and aren't afraid of them, as I could not be able to go into stuff like that personally.
And possibly given by your name is it safe to assume you like to learn and study most of the insect kingdom or just this one part?
@@spectral5939 Parasitoid wasps actually can't even sting humans! Their stingers are only used to lay eggs, it's in social and hunting wasps that this ovipositor has been modified to be used aggressively or as a last ditch defence!
Yeah I love all insects and even all arthropods (anything with exoskeleton and many legs basically) but I also read about other invertebrates! Once you learn how amazing the micro world is it becomes very hard to go back to lions or bears...

I know I mentioned this before, but England has a lot of interesting lore. Yes there's Saint George of the Dragon, he's so famous and important he got a whole day dedicated to him in the UK, but there's actually another figure who fought a dragon that I really want you to know about, especially since he and the monster he fought might very well have a surprisingly strong connection to Applin, that figure is a one Lord Jonathan Lampton. John Lampton shows up in the story of the Lampton Worm, which is actually a dragon because the word worm was also used as a derogatory term for dragon. But the tale of the Lampton Worm leans into this bit more than you might think. In the story of the Lampton Worm, which I highly recommend you look into, the story starts with a figure fighting a worm-like dragon and throwing it down a well on what is later revealed to be part of the territory presided over by the Lampton family. The dragon couldn't climb out because it didn't have any wings or legs or claws to make use of and was actually rather small and young. Later it turned the well into its lair, or at least the entrance to it, and started coming out to prey on the people, by this time the patriarch of the family was too old and feeble to do anything about it and his son (John) was away on the crusades. The people of the town being terrorized by the dragon decided to keep themselves safe the best option was to fill a cow up with milk and offer it as a sacrifice to the monster, this helped by them a week or two of time because this plan actually made the monster feel a bit bloated and want to return to its lair to basically sleep it off. When Johnathan returned from the crusades he learned of the plight of his people and went to face the monster, only to find a giant worm-like monster with a dragon's head that kept growing its divided pieces back together every time he cut it. To learn the rest of the story, and how he managed to finally best the creature, go read the story.

Fun fact: we also use radar to learn about bird migration. When people used radar technology it sometimes picked up on migrating flocks of birds. We only started learning how bird migration worked until we started using radar. With the help of it ( along with the discovery of a stork that had an African spear impaled through its body. It was still alive too.) we learned that birds traveled to other places to follow summer around the globe.

Me too! The first time I saw this Pokemon I was like WHOA! Pokemon still got it! If I could add something to your theory, I think you missed a tiny detail. Never thought I would hear Caddicarus’s voice coming out of a wasp. I have mixed emotions right now, gimme’ a minute.
Apparently there are ladybugs in New Zealand, such Coccinella leonina ("Orange-spotted ladybird", native), C. undecimpunctata ("Eleven-spotted ladybird", introduced) and more recently Harmonia axyridis ("Harlequin ladybird", invasive).
What language is that?
I distinctly remember my first impression of orbeetle being that the first bug/psychic type had been wasted on an already used species. Orbeetle itself is quite cleverly designed, for sure, but I always thought I'd like it more if ledyba and ledian had never existed.
On the other hand, though, something cool about orbeetle and ledian is that ledian's flying type gives it an advantage against the bug-type orbeetle, while orbeetle's psychic type gives it another weakness to ledian's bug-type attacks. Considering Asian ladybirds are apparently an invasive nuisance to seven-spot ladybirds, ledian's being able to give orbeetle such a hard time is just another cool reflection of real life entomology. Pretty neat!

When I first played Sword, I wanted to use Sizzlipede as my Bug Pokemon. I caught Blipbug in the foggy forest just as a means of wanting to fill my pokedex. But because the whole party gains experience at the same time, it evolved into Dottler and I saw that it was part Psychc and I wanted to keep it cause of its unique typing. So I had Orbeetle on my first complete team and then used Sizzlipede/Centiskorch on a second playthrough. Orbeetle's awesome. A lot of gen 8 Pokemon are.

Man, Orbeetle has been my favorite since I started playing this game; I really love Blipbug and Dottler too, they're so awesome. I'm beyond elated to have learned more about my favorite pokemon too!
Also, ladybugs have an ability to predict weather in the future that scientists still don’t understand. That might be another reason it’s the psychic type and it has to do with radomes/radar as well.

Also thats totally Caddy doing the voice right?
That skit with the green-eyed wasp reminds me of an episode of the 2012 tmnt where there was a mutated wasp that stung one of them and basically mind controlled them to guard the egg
Man learning about those mind control wasps just validate my love for orbeetle. Just makes me eanna always have one on my team, and care for them, and pet them lots, and breed for a shiny and HEY WAIT
14:14 is that jojo's reference?
Actually, "mushi" means bug. Tentomushi is ladybug in Japanese
Me: Oh cool a Ladybug Pokémon. Lockstin: 14:05
I'm making fakemon and I gotta say coming up with inspirations and concepts can be tricky, but the research can be fun if you want it to. Orbeetle just nails it!
"Every gen 8 pokemon has something to do with Britain"
>Turtle species native to america
still has something to do with the UK though, just like Sandaconda. anacondas arent from the UK but sandbags and rifles are, so its still British
I saw this was about orbeetle and I had to jump in and mention my first shiny in this game was a gigantimax orbeetle. I named him Zurg.
My first shiny was gmax corviknight
Side note on Orbeetle, its antennae are shaped like the V-Fins on a Gundam, which are sometimes explained to be better at cutting through signal interference. The outer antennae even have the small safety tabs that Gunpla Kits use on the V-Fins.
Orbeetle is absolutely one of my favorites and now I love it even more.
I thought he was going to say:
You thought it was a ladybug, but it was me DIO
KONO WASP DA!
