The US military needs Chinese semiconductors to build advanced weapons. Not the other way around.

  • The primary objective of the semiconductor export curbs is to deny the Chinese military access to chips necessary to build and operate weapons platforms. But the dependency on chips and electronics is more evident on the US side, after a careful analysis of the Department of Defense supply chains in critical weapons systems.
Comprehensive surveys of supply chains at the DOD supplier level reveals deep dependencies on China for plastics, rare earth metals, magnets, propulsion systems, engine parts, and more notably in electronics and semiconductors. What's more, we are four to eight times more dependent on China, component by component, compared to just a decade ago.

Actually it is not. What causes national security concern is the software which can connect to remote host. Semiconductors are just pieces of hardware. Personally, I don't think any of these semiconductor chips are special enough to warrant security concern except it would be very hard to replace them without extremely high costs. So, we just need to purchase and stockpile a large number of them.

Add in their absolute dominance in the Supercapacitor arena, and equally strong position in the larger non-SMD component supply chain (electrolytic caps, switches, and other "hardware"), and you soon realist that the West's plans to "decouple" from China in the next two decades are nothing more than hot air.

Keep the Americans dependent on us so they never have any incentive to build their own and cut us out. You win all modern wars through economic means, including supply chains and manufacturing depth. This is how to weaken your enemies - make them dependent on you. And Americans Achilles heel is the fast buck!

It seems that there are many opportunities for the Chinese govt to do a tit for tat on the sanctions on chips and chip manufacturing equipment. yes. American politicians have actually made a strategic mistake. Let the Chinese unite to promote the rapid development of their own semiconductor industry. Within five years, you will see that the Americans will suffer the consequences. Before the trade war, China's semiconductors were heavily dependent on American chips. Chinese semiconductor buyers pursued the cost-effectiveness and stability of products, and only purchased Western semiconductor products, and almost never gave domestic semiconductor companies the opportunity to try out their products. The US trade war and various sanctions have provided employment opportunities for China's integrated circuit masters and doctors who graduate every year. In the past, integrated circuit graduates usually could only switch to the Internet and software industries, but now the ecological environment of China's semiconductor industry has been completely changed. This is a good thing for China.

@@GoodAtheistAlway The chief reason why the US government cannot govern the country effectively is because it is being controlled and run by the super rich class and their huge corporations. US power doesn't lie with the state but the corporations. This is why US politics rely heavily on corporate political lobbying and donations. In Australia and most democratic countries, it's illegal to donate to political parties. Political donations often lead to influence buying and corruption. When the US starts a foreign war, it's to defend American corporate interests. A good example is when the US invaded a certain Central American country in support of one of its companies - The United Fruit Corporation. As they say, war helps the American economy, especially it's arms industry which is the world's largest. For your info, the Thatcher and Reagan governments enacted policies largely to benefit the rich and big corporations. Margaret Thatcher was a huge fan of privatization as many public institutions were sold off to the rich class, resulting in the marginalisation of masses.
