I grew up in the 1960s and remember Brian Jones in the stones and all of a sudden you never heard of him. This video is so good and I love it! It is like spending a day in 1968….
The irony of a song about Brian Jones themed around some Keef-alike riffing is not lost on me. But it doesn't detract from one of the best singles of the 1980s. Stomper!
Hi Sandy hope your well Alex really has amazing talent , nice to see your comment think i met you year or two after i met Alex 1974 in Renfrew . lovey tune great band I have some photos i was asked to take by Alex with PTV at Nightmoves Glasgow .
Great tribute to Brian. According to Genesis, Rolling Stones management called Radio One and told them to stop playing Godstar (after it was becoming a hit) or they wouldn’t be allowed to play Rolling Stones music. Godstar was never played again
Metallica said they supported the Stones and before gigs if Jagger was walking around backstage you were under strict instructions not to make eye contact with him . What a twat
What an incredible song. I never thought a band could be this good. I got the same feeling when I heard Joy Divison the first time. Thank God for youtube.
My new favorite old song. One of the things I like is how Gen gives a preface first, about the song. It's perfect logic, before diving into the psychedelic netherworld. Great beat too.
Loved this song when it came out in the 80s in Blighty. Last time I heard it was at the Horrors gig in Vancouver. The DJ put it on, and I fell in love with it again !
This is a story, a very special story. It′s about Brian Jones, one of the Rolling Stones. Where were you when the stars went out? Where were you when they started to shout? I saw you alone by the pool, And all your friends called you a fool. Godstar, Godstar. Godstar, Godstar. Godstar, Godstar. God...star. And you were so beautiful, you were so very special, I wish I was with you now, I wish I could save you somehow. Godstar, Godstar. Godstar, Godstar. Godstar, Godstar. God...star. (Echoing chorus): Brian, Brian, Brian. Brian, Brian, Brian. Godstar, Godstar. Godstar, Godstar. Godstar, Godstar. God...star. Where were all your friends that night As you switched off the final light? I saw your body in the water Like a lamb going to the slaughter And where were all of your laughing friends? My friend very cleverly pointed out that this is probably about Ian Curtis. Before Ian killed himself he phoned his friends saying he was going to kill himself for real this time and everyone thought he was crying wolf again, apparently P was miles away. I think the stuff about Brian Jones is just a smart way of masking the true message to all the people that didn't help Ian in the end.

it's so heart-warming to know how other people appreciate Brian Jones too
This song wrecks me every time.

I remember Radio 1 Newsbeat doing a feature on this song when it was released.
I’m guessing the living Stones took umbrage at the insinuation they left Brian behind to his self-destructive tendencies...which they did.
That’s such a bullshit situation, the FUCKEN Stones management threatening a radio station. It’s censorship and Orwellian.
Metallica said they supported the Stones and before gigs if Jagger was walking around backstage you were under strict instructions not to make eye contact with him . What a twat
Brian Jones was a naturally talented musician. Could play any instrument he put his mind to.
" They started to steal your glory. They never even told your story". Are you listening Mick & Keith?..........

Exactly
Genesis knew all about trying to steal someone elses glory, at least according to Cosey
