I once saw Gladys Horton on Dick Clark's New Years Rockin Eve show. Unfortunately I accidentally erased my VHS recording of it. I also saw Gladys perform inside the Las Vegas Caesars Palace casino in 1996. It was a real pleasant surprise. I was happy for her.🙂
Gladys did not sing on the original recording of Don't Mess With Bill." Wanda Young sang lead and Gladys was not invited to sing background either...that job was given to those awful Andantes.
Yeah; Such A Sad Ending For Such An Awesome Person. She Started Out With Such Great Potential Her Possibilities Could Have Known No Bounds , Not To Mention The Other Ladies In The Group. I Wasn’t Even Aware That The Marvelettes Were The First Group That Sold One Million Copies For Motown. To Be A Product Of That Era, The Marvelettes Have A Great Positive Influence On Me. We Looked Up To Them. Gladys And The Marvelettes Didn’t Get The Credit That They Truly Deserved. I was Sincerely Sadden By The Way She Left Us. Peace Ms Gladys. You And Your Group Really Left Us Some Wonderful Memories.
And Motown let The Marvelletes fall through the cracks 😔 without having their backs! Gladys left to care for her special needs son and Wanda had substance abuse issues that Motown could've @least got her rehab ir something. Smdh They had 10 hits! 2shy of The Supremes record.without that crossover success. Really sad
Ms Horton deserved every dime she made from this tour despite the frauds, fakes, hustlers and opportunistic promoters who were "pimping" the name "Marvelettes" with unknown singers (black and white) until Kat Anderson came up with a game plan to patent the name, deservedly. Marvellets were something special, all of them.
Another thing I would like to add about The Marvelous Marvelletes is that they could sing and dance at the same time as well as Martha and the Vandellas but The Supremes not so much...lol..but I like all 3 but my order is Marvelletes, Supremes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas! I'm glad Gladys didn't try to sing Don't mess with Bill like Wanda but in her key and her own spin! ❤🥰Legends.
We did not want to see the Supremes dance. Their voices were as sweet as honey and dancing was not necessary. Just a little shimmy here and there was all that was necessary of the Supremes as far as body movement goes.
Actually to be politically correct BG gave The Marvelletes to Smokey who lost their name gambling. BG was too busy with his masterpiece The Supremes to care what happened to the 1st girl group that got them a hit out the park with Mr Postman. Rip Gladys Horton 🙏🏽
Wow all these years this is the only live performance I’ve seen of Gladys in her later years . She look and sound amazing. How can we contribute to get her book published??
now wait a minite wanda bought a totally new grown up street voice to those hits such as baby must be a magician and dont mess with bill and the others. such as the hinter gets captured it was just that the motown machine couldn't handle more than one starr ina ny group
What a shameful statement. We come in many shades as African Americans. When will we learn to stop the self hatred ? What does her shade have to do with anything? They were both beautiful, talented ladies.
A fantastic singer and spunky stage presence. I wish there were more real live clips available. My father had many of their early hits, and I can remember looking at the 45 sleeve picture trying to figure out who sang lead and back-up. (You never got any liner notes on the 45s.) So blessed to finally see Ms. Horton perform.

THIS SHOW I SAW IN 1994 SAME REVIEW 3O YEARS OF ROCK N ROLL. WITH DONNIE BROOKS. YOU BELIEVE THERE ALL PASSED AWAY. SHE TOURED WITH MITCH RYDER. DONNIE BROOKS. SPIRATAL STAIR CASE. ALWILSON. GUITARIST FROM BAD FINGER. AND GARY LEWIS AND PLAY BOYS ALL PAASED AWAY EXCEPT GARY LEWIS SO SAD.

She's great and looking fly and her background singers and band are all superb.
Beautiful Lady Gladys Horton-excellent performance. RIP! Thanks for posting!!
She's gorgeous here!!
Thanks for posting this. Due to the scarcity of later performances, this is really important. Gladys Horton is in good voice and sounds great.

This clip proves that true talent lasts. What a phenomenal performance from one of Motown's finest icons. Much missed and never forgotten.
The forgotten Motown star.
Wow! Thank you for sharing! Loved watching this rare video of her performance. Rest in peace, Ms Gladys Horton. Never forgotten.

She sounded better than before!!
I was hoping she would have sang “Too Many Fish”
A great singer and a good dancer

One of the great voices of the 60s. Too bad Berry sidelined her for 'light/bright' Wanda. That's show biz. Fabulous clip!!

Because Wanda’s married to Claudette Rogers cousin or brother

I always thought it was her singing in Don’t mess with bill all this time.
Nope, that was wanda 😊👍
I thought the same thing as well. Did Wanda ever do comeback?
Omg love this and love Gladys.. she talked about writing her book but was it ever published?? Can’t find it on Amazon
It was never published, but Gladys's son Vaughan has the finished manuscript he's looking for a publisher!

Did she change some of the lyrics in order to get around copyright or royalty issues?
Possibly...or because she felt like it!
I didn’t know she’s Jamaican
That explains Deliver The Letter, The Sooner The Better
