Wasn't he faking the whole time? I don't remember where I heard that, but I remember the whole liquid ghost thing wasn't real.
He hypnotised himself into believing he was becoming Liquid, just like he hypnotised himself into believing Venom was the true Big Boss. His final fight with Solid undid some of the brainwashing (all the blows to the head), so he reverts to his true self somewhat.

The balloons are by far some of the most hilarious shit ever in Metal Gear. The way Kiefer totally disinterested says "you're pretty good" or "kept you waiting huh" in the most phoned in way ever is pure genius. It's how many people probably thought Kiefer's performance would turn out, but he did a phenomenal job. His performance was so good that these balloons do stand out so much because it sounds so (deliberately) phoned in.
His 20 voice lines were pretty good.

Ocelot is the most deep and complex character in the entire series and I love that. I’m pretty sure he’s also the only character to appear in every single Metal Gear Solid game.

Tbh when playing all of metal gear in order to the end hearing ocelot voice echo gave me chills and a tear of joy because it is a master piece game and all bosses even ocelot, liquid, solidus.
