Do you know what to add so the paste will stay flexible? Or maybe a video for this type a clay would be good.

Omg, with every DIY thrift chnl I've following these last couple years NOW going by way of IOD everything from stamps, to moulds to expensive one use packs of transfers... It's so awesome to see a chnl still doing tutorials on how to TRULY DIY something! Thank you for sticking to your DIY routes and still showing people who can't afford all the name brand new DIY trends an alternative to get the similar, just as cool results! I was REALLYYYY starting to lose my drive after seeing EVERY thrift upcycle chnl use upward of 5 IOD products, being between $25-40 each product, in every video they put out in the last few months. It got to where I was counting how many IOD products were used in that video and how much it'd cost me if I bought every product used and it just frustrated me because it never used to be like this. And don't get me wrong, I love their stuff too, but not to the point where everyone is only using those products and it's not even just the thrift DIY chnls, I'm seeing it in like every 2nd or third booth at the antique mall I have my booth at. It's like if you aren't using those products to flip your thrifted items, you're outdated. So thank you again for your creativity and knowledge sharing! I actually can't wait to share this with my aunt as we were JUST talking about texture paste because she's making paper models and instead of using paper mache to cover them, she was trying different mediums to give a more realistic look and I had suggested adding baking soda to paint especially where it gives you more control of how thick you can make it. But I never thought of adding glue.... So, I'll definitely send her this one 😁❤️

Thanks for sending this note xo! I really appreciate it. It sums up exactly how I feel. A lot of products are really expensive and not reasonable to buy. I like the challenge to create a different way to achieve those looks without spending a lot of money and I think so far I have been able to stay true to that. I am working right now with a bunch of different ways to create a mold like finish without having to buy molds and I'm close to a dupe!! Stay tuned

You know, i love IOD products and take no issue with them really. If i could afford them, I'd buy some of them. But the real issue i see with them is the fact that everyone is using them. Nothing is really unique anymore. Sure you can use them on different things and different ways, but in the end, it is fifty products with the same molds, transfers, and stamps. Of course, that doesn't matter if you are creating for your own home, but if you sell, like the previous comment says, it will be every booth, basically the same things because it's all the same exact products they are using. For example, since IOD had a recent release, I've seen about six videos of different creators using their new molds on canister sets. They are beautiful, but, that's not what we need to see. Once is enough. I have seen creators use them in some unique ways. But often it is the same things over and over and if i am a customer who walks in an antique booth or craft fair, i don't want to see the same exact things at each vendor. Thing is, they aren't the only people who sell these things. This is why I try to search Amazon and other places to find similar items, but different. Instead of transfers, some unique rice paper. Molds made by smaller vendors instead of big companies. I even found some great bird stamps and such at some vendors. We used to have a store called "mighty dollar" in my town and they sold craft items galore and i bought many many stamps years ago there. They closed after awhile and i miss them, lol. But, yeah, maybe instead of adding clay to everything, maybe a raised stencil instead? I have even seen decoupage paper that looks like the vintage labels and they come in a hundred different styles. So, i just think it has created somewhat of a loss of uniqueness in what i am seeing in the creative space. It is far and few between that you find anyone who doesn't use those products almost exclusively. Again, they are beautiful and i have nothing against the company. I just think it hurts the uniqueness if folks use them exclusively and many do.

Yes, I agree. All those products by IOD, Redesign with Prima, Stamperia, and even the Dixie Belle products like Dixie Dirt and all the waxes they sell are soooo expensive. Like you, I love these products but they cost way too much for most of us to buy everything we need to do a DIY project. I live in Melbourne, Australia so they're even more expensive here because they're made overseas. And you're right about projects not being DIY any more because we're all making the same things! I love the recipe for the texture paste, I'm definitely going to make some. And I've got a great tip to give to all of you re: decoupage paper. I used to buy the paper that you see everywhere until I watched a video tutorial by a woman in Sydney who does reverse decoupage, and she uses paper from old, second hand books so that there's no copyright problems and the images are unique. I've bought some books on different topics, but my favourite right now is one on the Palace of Versailles and the Sun King, Louis XIV. The pictures are gorgeous, so I really recommend looking through your local second hand bookshop for similar books with beautiful illustrations and photos. Love from Amanda in Melbourne ❤

Amanda l'm in Coburg: have bought IOD stuff in Australia.
The only way l can get it is by post from Australian suppliers:
The suppliers are scattered all over the our continent:
they all seem to be in the country towns of especially NSW & QLD.
The selection of IOD products is limited here:
THEN one must get it from USA:
: A problem is lack of IOD suppliers in Australia:
also on top of that is the extra cost of postage:
One cannot travel by car to a store here & select and pick up...
also the mark-up on every product in Australia is high compared to USA:
I don't think IOD is popular in Australia. I cld be wrong. For us it's really too expensive :
      but a really super product:
l believe the CZcams ladies must get commission from these
companies who supply their paints and transfers and moulds, etc...
      it's huge business in USA:
I purchased a IOD transfer book, it's their more expensive
book of transfers about 5/6 pages... just beautiful!
It cost $86: extra would be postage cost: l was fortunate,
l had no postage costs, l picked mine up:
There was this shopkeeper who held IOD craft classes,
where l found these books; from her leftover stock.
Her craft class attendance became poor & the shop wasn't
making money from the IOD products range in her shop,
as well as the classes: so she stopped.
Amanda if yr smart... l notice the products all these
American companies are making are very clever.. good luck to
them... think about it and use the inexpensive stuff
we had as children to paint and stick things together:
They worked for us... remember CLAG... cheapest stuff in the store.
I use household products purchased from supermarkets
that cost a quarter of the cost of those used in these craft videos:
l make my own chalk paint: you can use the acrylic paints from
$2 shops, they are fine, even their brushes: also there are ways
around using products even cheap ol' grouting: go into Bunnings
and walk around and think it out especially in the hardware section,
their building products look at a product and see how l can use it for
craft not for building a house. Those craft videos onCZcams are
supplemented by product companies to sell to you & l: excuse to those who aren't!
JUST THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX : for everything created there is an
alternative; meaning there is always a different way: don't buy the narrative: think it out.
Like this lady in this video...smart:

OMG! YOUR idea saved me! I needed clear texture to camouflage some wrinkles on a decoupaged project. I read your post, had a tube of clear silicone caulk out in the shop. I used the caulk gun and a butter knife and saved the piece. Now it looks like an original painted piece! AND IT doubles as a sealer! I’m a happy girl!

Wholeheartedly agree. I am not knocking others, just prefer simple instructions with easy, everyday materials used in innovative ways. More original results and not something seen in store. Also many channels are more like an infomercial, pushing products they sell. I understand why, but can be repetitive and waste of my time.

Thank you I just ordered the stencils! I don't have Elmer's glue but I had a little bit of decoupage finish and using it now on a desk with some other stencil I've had laying around ☺️ we'll see how it goes

Hey you can just use drywall mud in the powdered form or the bucket but I like what you’re doing as well cool!

I've tried this, but wasn't happy with the gritty texture so substituted cornstarch for the soda. It's much creamier and smooth adding til I get the thickness I want. It does dry out also.

  • @Dawns_Creative_Carousel

White on black would have showed the texture better but those are beautiful like that!!!!
