    It's been a while since I unpacked my full PKM workflow, so in this video we're doing just that.
    For those of you building your own personal knowledge management systems, it's really easy to overcomplicate and overthink it. You just have to build a system that solves problems you actually have vs. trying to replicate something cool someone else did that you saw on the internet.
    I split my PKM system into three distinct areas (learning, documents, and productivity) where I have specific systems for both. Ready to learn more? Let's dive in!
    When you're ready, there are three ways I can help:
    1. Join our newsletter for weekly productivity tips: thinkeffective.co/join
    2. Go deeper with Obsidian: obsidianmadesimple.com
    3. Ask your productivity or PKM question and get answered live: airtable.com/shrJI8e1bPZ7uCJqd

    Thanks for this video! I know that you’re still working things out when it comes to your Productivity branch of things, but when you get there, I’d be very curious as to how these new/old ways are working for you. I too get exhausted thinking about “Productivity”, which of course means I’m spending too much time on it, I know! And I’d always watch more Devonthink videos-I own it, I open it periodically, get scared, and close it again!

    PKM? like the light machine gun?

    I have a use case that I don't see a lot of traction on in the PKM space. It is: password-protected sensitive information. Primarily journal entries, like raw observations of behavior and feelings, but also notes about friends and family to recall later that I want to treat as private to be courteous. Currently I use OneNote because that was my "Evernote" since 2008 and it still supports password-protected sections for both my laptop and phone. Anyone else run into this use case?

      I've been thinking he same thing. Anything against password locking the app itself?

    • @Earl_E_Burd
      @Earl_E_Burd Před rokem

      @@jasonrosso7330 Thanks. That would be a measure to take. There is also a plugin that adds a password prompt within Obsidian.
      The concern is the underlying markdown files in a directory that sits with filenames and folders that are pretty easy to mosey through.
      I'm probably overly paranoid from abusive parents and b/c my views are non-compliant.

    Why not use Finder for managing documents in place of DT?

    • @JeppeStenstrup
      @JeppeStenstrup Před rokem

      Was wondering that as well. Only thing I can think of is that OneDrive stores everything locally, and that may take up space.

      Two main reasons:
      - OCR
      - Duplicate Detection
      I basically manage them via Finder otherwise but having the DT layer on top helps ease the pain a bit. I'm also exploring how to use DT a bit more as I know I'm hardly touching its capabilities.

      Yes, sadly that's the case. I don't know of any similar Windows apps at this point in time.
