  • Two old-time tunes in A.
Waynesboro is usually attributed to a 1947 field recordings by Edden Hammons of Pocahontas County, West Virginia, although it is a 2-part variant of the 3-part Irish reel Over the Moor to Maggie rather than an American original. Usually played in G, but we moved it up to fit the fiddle in A cross-tuning. Aside from the key change, we give it a mellower feel, maybe because we leave out the frenetic scale run at the beginning of the first part and move the beginning of the second part down an octave.
The second tune comes from Garry Harrison, who was a collector of American fiddle tunes, many documented in the book Dear Old Illinois. Red Prairie Dawn, however, is one of his own tunes (not in the book). It was on a self-produced release, never commercially available, but nevertheless has become a very popular tune.
