  • picking some tunes in our backyard. Beaumont Rag is one of the tunes in the grey zone between old-time music and jazz, lots of similar tunes were recorded by Texas string bands in the 1920s. The tune we go into at the end is a 1930 jazz standard (Lazy River by Hoagy Carmichael).

Anya plays an oval hole Collings MT, I have a Collings MF5. Her mandolin sounds much darker and fuller than mine, but she has brighter strings (J74) than me (Thomastik) at the moment. However, much of the difference is in the right hand, we can switch instruments and she still has a brighter sound.
