  • Located in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains of California, and named after its dense population of the world's largest trees, the Sequoia National Forest boasts 38 distinct Giant Sequoia groves inside of its 1.1 million acre boundary.
The backpacking route in this video was selected by TRVRS Outdoors Ambassador Jeremy Boggs and based off of Andrew Skurka's Kings Canyon High Basin Route. It begins at the Southern Terminus and follows Silliman Creek up to an unnamed Pass just south of the Kings-Kaweah Divide. From this pass, the route parallels the divide before dropping into a high plateau called the Tablelands.

lol... silliman slabs are no joke. the video doesn't show how steep that first section is. I came over that little pass/notch south west of silliman summit. I had been at seville, sheep camp lake, lost lake, ranger lake, beville and twin lakes before I that.
I did another loop this last summer as well that started on the lakes trail to pear and emerald then off trail up the marble fork to tableland meadows, through the tablelands, over pterodactyl pass, up the lonely lake drainage to lonely lake, up and over the horn col where I connected to Elizabeth pass down to tamarack lake (the highlight of all my hikes. great camping sites and the lone pine meadows are packed with deer, bear and huge golden trout in tamarack and it's outlet). down to hamilton lakes then rush creek, muerten creek and out crescent meadows. I love sequoia/kings.

Man that is a bummer about the steepness not being shown. I went waaay across to get that shot, but you are absolutely right. Kudos on exploring a ton of the Kinds Canyon area. So gorgeous there. THanks for the tip on another beautiful area. Now I gotta sit down with a map.

Did a similar trek through tablelands and down the Marble Fork in July. View of the Watchtower from that riverbed is pretty special. Thanks for sharing!!!

Not a problem! Yeah, I was interested in the waterfall down in the canyon from the parking lot. The view from the top wasn't bad though!

Thank you! I definitely enjoyed the scramble along the ridge (unnamed pass). Could have hung out there for an hour longer, but we had to get to camp!
