- Middle Palisade is a 14,018 foot peak in the central Sierra Nevada mountain range in the U.S. state of California. It is a fourteener, and lies on the Sierra Crest as part of the Palisades group, a group of prominent Sierra Nevada mountain summits that includes multiple other fourteeners, approximately 12 miles southwest of the town of Big Pine. Middle Palisade is the twelfth highest peak in California.
This was a backpacking effort in which I hiked up to Finger Lake on June 17th, 2024 to spend the night, then ascended a peak and returned to the car the following day.
Total distance: 14 miles
Total vert: 7,600 feet
Device: Coros Vertix 2

Really enjoying your videos. Your enthusiasm for the beauty of the Sierra and your positivity are contagious! As someone with aspirations to complete the California 14ers (and with a couple in the bag already), your videos are super informative and very well shot. I can’t imagine the work it takes to set up some of the shots you take. Thank you for taking the time to share these great videos with us…look forward to more. Cheers 🍻
This comment means a lot because although filming this trek went impeccably, there are some outings that go very awry and I have to pivot, which can be very daunting. Fortunately, I'm getting better at navigating this stuff with every effort, but there is absolutely a bit of a learning curve. Thanks a lot.
Dude - I so appreciate your joy in your laughter about how gorgeous it is up there! That was great! Great video, great trip!
Thank you! Im glad I was able to capture the experience in a way that's honest and relatable. I remembered that the path gets drastically more beautiful above the notch, but it still caught me off guard.
Cool. We did Mt. Sill in 2010.
Love it dude! Great shots and commentary along the way!
Thank you for the comment! I am thoroughly enjoying putting these together. Its hard to find works when I'm out of breath and uneducated, so I appreciate this haha.
Amazing climb and video, respect from the UK
Much appreciated. Definitely a worthy mountain adventure.
Great job on video. Middle Pal and Williamson were my two favorites and most challenging.
Thank you. I haven't done all the 14ers, but they are definitely the most challenging of the ones I've completed. Very enjoyable.
Loved your video, especially the laughter and joy at such beauty!
Thank you! I was so grateful to capture the experience in a way that others can share. I'm not always in an expressive mood when I'm doing this stuff. Haha.
Thanks for posting this. It brought back a memory and an idea I had long ago. Interesting to see that side of the Palisade Crest in a video. I am used to Third Lake & Temple Crag and the other lakes up to the glacier and beyond to Agassiz. I have a mental note to try the other side: The yellow Brick Road on Gayley, Middle Pal, Normal Clyde. One day...Cheers!
I keep reading about this yellow brick road. I'll need to go back for it one day. Thanks for watching.
Great video 👌
Thanks 👍
I was up there about 17 years ago (Not middle palisade but finger lake which is gorgeous lake)
Great video. I want to make it up to that area (or Little Lakes, Thousand Lakes etc) this year. Those climbs are crazy. I'll climb them vicariously through your videos while I stay on the nicely packed trails.
Ha! All beautiful areas with so many excellent trail networks. As long as we're both getting out there, we're both beating everyone on the couch!
Really spectacular summit views.
Agreed! Thanks for tuning in.
Another nice video , glad your up there again .Dagg ,Gods country .Love the vid. Great views & breathtaking backgrounds.God Speed R.J. enjoy & "salud compadre" 😲💪🍻👌💯😎
Thank you for watching, pops!
Great POV video. That climb looked sweet.
Thanks. It was really fulfilling to try something new and challenging as opposed to doing the same route I'd done before. And yes, it was totally sweeet.
Dude sounds exactly like me when I take some magic mushrooms and go for a hike!
I will neither confirm nor deny the use of psylocibin during any of these outings.
Great video - thank you for your efforts
Love doing it! Thanks for watching .
Love it all
Thank you!
Good video Miroki
Thank you!
Very nice video. What camera did you use and were you using a chest mount?
Thank you. I used a GoPro hero 11 and a Samsung s23 ultra. Yes, I used a chest mount as well as a head mount for this video.
Great video, really enjoyed your content! 🤙🏽 by the way which hiking pants are those? Do you recommend? Thanks
Thank you! So I rotate three pairs of tech pants from Costco. Theyre all great! $20 . I also own a pair of Prana pants, but to be honest, the Costco ones are as good for the price. They pretty much have at least one pair throughout the year.
@@trvrsoutdoors Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated, looking at doing the PCT in 2025 trying to narrow down worn and carried clothing.
So there is no bergschrund to jump right now? The snow goes all the way to the rock? Let me know as I have a friend I’d like to take up and not have to jump as I did years ago.
No jump! I did eye the bergschrund on the northern glacier, but not where I went up.
Incredible! Would love to do that someday. I went up to finger lake last year around now. That forest was super buggy!!😂. Such awesome country, though.
I could totally see that area getting bad with the bugs. Glad I was able to get out bite-free.
Nice job. Can you comment more on the choice of the regular Northeast Face route versus the red rocks? My understanding is that you had a short class 4 chimney on the ascent, versus class 3 with loose rocks on the descent.
Also, did you ever use that ice axe, or crampons? It didn't look like it.
Your understanding would be correct. The Red Rock chute is class 3 but more risky is involved, especially in a group since you can dislodge rocks and send them flying down.
The 4th class route I took is stable, and so more safe if you have the skill. I decided to go down the Red Rock chute just to save time since I'm not as strong at downclimbing 4th class.
I used my ice axe once about midway between the glacier and camp because it was easier on my legs to glissade than to traverse the talus fields.
Can you send a link to the gloves you are using?
Here is the link. They were much cheaper when I bought them tbh. I would find something comparable under $15 on Amazon.

@@trvrsoutdoors Thx!
Nice work dude, love the sierra, love the videos of yours I’ve watched ; let me know if you ever wanna sync up and climb some 5th class.
Ngl This invite makes me a little nervous. Haha. Haven't done anything 5th class yet.
