Kaiserhymne in 8 Different Languages

- This video presents the imperial anthem of the Habsburg Monarchy in 8 different languages. Famously referred to as the anthem of the Austrian Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Habsburg anthem unsurprisingly has a lot of translations due to the multiethnic nature of the Habsburg realm.
Lyrics however may vary according to each language and the version of the Kaiserhymne, since the song has had several official lyrics throughout history. I could not find any recordings for Slovene, Banat Romanian, Ukrainian and Friulian languages, but they do have translations for this song as well.

The rare English version is specifically sung by The Southern Singer. Here's the link to the English version: • Gott Erhalte Franz Den...
The German version is from the funeral of Otto von Habsburg, the last Crown Prince of Austria-Hungary, who passed away in 2011. His son, Karl, is the current head of the House of Habsburg, and the unofficial pretender to the Austrian throne.
There would've been a Karl II
@@_Iseah and he would have been shit too
@@_Iseah After Otto von Habsburg retired as Head of House in 2007, Karl von Habsburg formally renounced his succession rights. That is why I called him the UNOFFICIAL pretender to the throne, because he does not see himself as worthy of continuing the legacy of his grandfather, Karl I. And even if he did not renounce his succession rights, he would have to bear the burden of passing his titles onto his son, Ferdinand von Habsburg. This would be difficult, because not only does Ferdinand not show the slightest interest in ruling, but he is now a race car driver. He wouldn't want to give up this prestige to rule an Empire that no longer exists. So it is for the best that Karl renounced his succession rights.
Really, I don't think it was in 2011 because my brother was born in 2011
@@hollyrobethan3361 Otto von Habsburg died in 2011, but he passed the title of Head of the House of Habsburg to Karl in 2007.
There also exists a slovenian version of the song from the time of the last emperor (Karl I.) so during the last years of ww1. The fun thing is that my great grandmother knew it and used to sing it to me when i was a child.
So now, your mission is to form the Austro-Slovene-Hungarian Empire 😏

Melody is from croatian folk song "Jutrom se ja rano vstanem". Hayden was, probably, a Croat from Gradišće (Burgenland) in Austria.

Hayden was not Croat, but his home village Rohrau is closed to some Croatian villages in Northern Burgenland (so called "na Hati").
Great anthem compilation in different languages of my favourite empire!
I though the Czech and Romanian versions would never end! Apart from the iconic German version the soaring angelic voice in the Croatian version was magnificient.
The hymn is the same yet sung so differently by eachbregion of the A-H Empire.. I like the Hungarian version the most. My parents were from Ireland but we have co-lateral ancstors who, with Sir Patrick Sarsfield's departure after the Battle of Limerick, left.for Austria after to serve in the Imperial Army. I believe some of my German speaking cousins in Ireland are still in contact with those remote relatives. Some have taken gap year jobs in the Tyrol.
The English one also sounds American as well. I also imagine the English one being sung in 1797 in these exact same lyrics for some reason.
I love Anthems from your channel!😊
God save Francis the Emperor"') was a personal anthem to Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and later of the Austrian Empire, with lyrics by Lorenz Leopold Haschka (1749-1827) and music by Joseph Haydn. It is sometimes called the "Kaiserhymne" . Haydn's tune has since been widely employed in other contexts: in works of classical music, in Christian hymns, in alma maters, and as the tune of the "Deutschlandlied", still today the national anthem of Germany.
My favorite has to be the Romanian version ❤️
Also, I’m wondering if there is a Ukrainian, Slovene, Slovak,or any dialects of Italian or Romanian versions of them
"I could not find any recordings for Slovene, Banat Romanian, Ukrainian and Friulian languages, but they do have translations for this song as well." Look at the description.
Why would there be dialectal versions of Romanian? Romanian is a very unitary language with few dialects. The only thing that could be interesting could be a version in Istro-Romanian, Istro-Romanians also lived in the empire. But it simply doesn't exist.
There is ukrainian version in the internet, but no recordings
I can translate it, but my english is not very good
there is a Friulan version of it (an Italian lenguage)
great video, from where did you get the coat of arms? and were all those versions official ones?
The coat of arms were from the respective subdivisions of the Habsburg Empire. For instance, the Czech part shows the coat of arms of Bohemia and Moravia, while the Romanian part shows the coat of arms of the Principality of Transylvania and the Duchy of Bukovina.
When it comes to the officiality of these lyrics, I think the German lyrics were the sole official lyrics of Kaiserhymne because German is the main official language of the empire (Hungarian and Croatian languages were also given official status but I'm not sure if the translations were made official as well). Not sure about the other languages, since languages such as Czech, Polish, and Romanian were not official languages; I think they're mostly de facto instead and that the lyrics were translated for the diverse ethnicities of the Habsburg Empire to understand the anthem in their own languages, even without official recognition.
@@KingdomofFiume thanks for the answer, i love your work 🤝
The Hungarian and Croatian versions are probably original, because without them the compromise could not have been compromise.
(Because the Hungarian nobility would not have accepted the German hymne, and the Croatian nobility would not have accepted the Hungarian hymne in their province.)
Hungarian is probably official. Croatian one is 100% since it was the first official croatian anthem.

Hello everyone, I'm Ferenc Deák,
And that's jackass.
Today we will test what happens after the compromise.
The polish one in the end is a mix of people both singing the italian and polish one at the same time
This is related to the fact that both Polish and The Italian national anthem refer to each other. What I mean is a reference to our common history, not directly to the lyrics.
@@Mr_Wild_StrawberryYes true:
In Poland part of the anthem is "z ziemi włoskiej do polski" that means "from italian land to poland"
@@Mr_Wild_Strawberry It isn't related to that. czcams.com/video/yhY3foCgv8o/video.html&ab_channel=RobertoBazzanella
Interesting to see that the German version used is the later rewrite of the lyrics, circa 1854:
Gott erhalte, Gott beschütze
unsern Kaiser, unser Land!
Mächtig durch des Glaubens Stütze
führ' Er uns mit weiser Hand!
Laßt uns Seiner Väter Krone
schirmen wider jeden Feind;
𝄆 Innig bleibt mit Habsburgs Throne
Österreichs Geschick vereint. 𝄇
Most German versions you hear default to the 1797 lyrics:
Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser,
Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!
Lange lebe Franz, der Kaiser,
In des Glückes hellstem Glanz!
Ihm erblühen Lorbeerreiser,
Wo er geht, zum Ehrenkranz!
Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser,
Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!
Excellent! 👍
The Italian version is lovely, I will save it , I dont know if the translation is faithful, but it is nkce

Čehona byl občan pilný - Čehona was a diligent citizen - garbled on purpose
explanation: Karel Schwarzenberg, one important Czech politician, who btw died a short time ago, made fun of people in his song who willingly served any regime - first the Habsburgs, then the Republic, the Nazis and then the Communists. One of these people was called Čehona. You can search it out if you want, it's available on CZcams and called "Čehona byl občan pilný"
And yes, you are right, "byl" means "be".
