  • Has the Dometic RTX 2000 12V AC been a game changer for me or is it more a waste of money? There are not that many 12v RV air conditioning options out there and the Dometic RTX 2000 seems to be a very popular model. In this video review about the Dometic AC, I will show in detail how much noise it outputs and also tell you if it is actually able to cool down my truck camper on a hot summer day.
I ordered my Supertramp truck camper with the optional air conditioning (Dometic RTX 2000) package so that I could run the AC off-grid while out camping in hotter and more humid climates. From my research, it shows this is also a popular AC for RVs and people doing van life.
Now it is about 1.5 months since I picked up my truck camper, and I have used the Dometic RTX 2000 a few times. In this video, I will go into the details about this 12v AC what I like about it, and what I do not like about it.

I sleep with alot of white noise and actually prefer noise as i have severe tinnitis (constant ringing in ears) the Dometic is extreemly impressive at cooling if your happy with it cooling your whole camper sq ft. With just 1-2 12 volt batteries! Wow good to know!
You'll need a good sized generator to run a mini split. I haven't found a better 12 volt A.C. unit. Im shopping for one now.
Questions: 1)Does it vibrate the roof? I want to mount on a semi truck sleeper. 2) how well will it hold up for years? I can imagine having to unplug the condenser holes on the outside roof of the unit as my truck works in dirty conditions. Have your condenser drain holes ever plugged on the roof and dripped water inside the camper? Wondering how well the condensor drains work and stay unplugged?
Great video, always appreciate ppl that take the time to do an honest product review. It appears this unit is great a cooling, tho a little loud? A semi sleeper is much smaller, are you still happy with the unit cooling and still working a few months later?
    Thanks
Edit: grammer and added a question

The units cools just fine. That is not the problem. The compressor makes a lot of noise when it kicks in. The fan portion to move air is also very loud and I just feel that is done "because we've always done it that way". It's a great excuse not to innovate in my opinion. I understand the engineering challenges. Air needs to be moved. Air needs to be cooled. But this feels like a 120V AC unit converted to 12V and then they called it good. A dishwasher can be whisper quiet these days. Fans can be super quiet. Look at how air conditioning is done in electric vehicles. Refrigerators are super quiet. Spread out the ducting a little bit with some nice looking interior part of the AC unit. Make it longer, but keep it flat. The roof unit is big - design a nice looking larger counterpart for the inside that integrates some good lighting and experiment with different vents to distribute the air better. I would not have a problem with a larger ceiling footprint if done in a way where it looks really nice - like, where a designer was involved and not just an engineer.

Is this the 12v version? Is the 24v less noisy?

I don't think there is a difference. The compressor and the blower will just create a certain noise level.

Nomadic Cooling X2 or X3 12v unit is quieter, I think. Mine doesn't bother me too much.

I will have the X2 in my new rig when it is being build. The setup will be a different and noise can spread out a bit more. The location in the Supertramp makes sense in one way, but on the other side one is so close to the AC that you will get the full brunt of the noise output when you are trying to sleep.

You are very welcome. Yeah, I was shocked as well. I wish I would have had the opportunity to test this out before taking delivery, but it is what it is.
