How much did I pay for my Supertramp Camper?

  • How much did my highly customized Supertramp Truck camper really? Of course, there is a lot more than just the list price for the camper. There are add-ons that Supertramp Campers installed from the factory and quite a few add-ons or upgrades that I installed to my Supertramp camper.
    I was a bit shocked when I ran the numbers for my Supertramp Camper.

    My goodness $91k for a truck camper! Glad you're having fun, but for that kind of money, I think better options exist.

      Yeah, there are plenty of options for all different use cases. I did not expect to end up where I ended up when I started. I probably would have done something different if I would have known.

    Thanks ever so much for sharing the cost. What I’ve seen on CZcams videos on this camper does not actually say that almost everything is optional and an additional cost. Am now subscribed and following.

      Glad it was helpful! And I agree - information has been lacking a bit. I never expected to end up at $91K, but you can't just stop in the middle.

    Purchased my STC in March of last year.i also have specific options above the listed price. I was very early in the queue .i have ZERO complaints about my purchase price and the full spectrum of design, innovation, forward thinking concepts and functionality gives me extreme satisfaction.

    Thanks for sharing. Not easy to do for some people. I probably would of bought one of those extreme off road trailers I have seen from ROA of America. You will get an offroad apartment for that kind of money.

    • @dtadventure4x4
      @dtadventure4x4  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Totally agree that is not a cheap setup. I am fortunate and grateful that I can afford this, but I also work hard for that. I started at zero at age 30 and worked my way up to where I am today.
      Trailers have their place for sure, but unfortunately for my type of travels a trailer is not going to work. But they offer a cheaper entry into overlanding for sure.

    This is a fantastic, well thought out video. All of your upgrades are real world examples and very similar to how I would option it as well. Thanks for the tip on the composting toilet. The Tiny requires a vent. How much composting material do you have to carry for a week or 2? Also, did you take your hp starlink to the same spot as your residential? How much of a difference? Even the new gen is an interesting compromise between power and performance.

    • @dtadventure4x4
      @dtadventure4x4  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Thank you. I appreciate you. I am not necessarily using the Trelino with composting material, but I use their compostable bags. I did take Starlink to the same spot for comparison and had fantastic connectivity. I also tried it here at home in a densely populated area and it was clearly outperforming the regular dish. It was partially faster than my cable Internet.

    $91K US? I am up here in Canada, after the conversion, that would be over $125,000, or the average house price where I live! I just got a truck, and started looking at campers. While I agree that ST are well built, it does seem a bit pricey. Can you suggest other models of campers that you would consider too, but at a more reasonable price pt? Appreciate any recommendations, thank you.

    • @dtadventure4x4
      @dtadventure4x4  Před 5 měsíci +3

      You have to define your use case to pick the right camper. There are a lot of cheaper options out there, but only you can identify if they are the right one for you. My use case is off-roading and need something that can take a beating without falling apart. Personally, I looked at the Alu-Cabs and FWC as well as OEV. All are great products. OEV gets quickly expensive once you start adding options and you get into the same territory as a Supertramp quickly.

    • @dtadventure4x4
      @dtadventure4x4  Před 3 měsíci +1

      When I talked to Supertramp the last time, a flatbed was not on their roadmap. They seem to focus on the Megatron and the high-end market similar to the Hilt or Earthroamers.

    Does you glow step fold up and stay there with a lanyard or do you pull them off and store while driving. I also have an ST camper and am trying to figure out how to mount it. Cheers.

    • @dtadventure4x4
      @dtadventure4x4  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I take them off and put them inside the camper - right at the door for easy access and installation. For one my steps are not the model they sell that stay permanently attached and second - I go off-road a lot and they would get really dirty if outside. It is not a big deal for me to mount and dismount them.

    So Supertramp installed the wrong/undersized charge controllers? That’s shocking it got through production. Did you get compensation from them for this mistake?

    • @dtadventure4x4
      @dtadventure4x4  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I would not say wrong as it was the only option available. Wrong for my needs. The system was designed for one or two batteries - not for four.
      It's a young company and they are learning and adjusting as they go. I was aware of that when I placed my order in August 2022. It's a risk I was willing to take and I expected that I will have to make some upgrades on my own after the purchase. Maybe not to the extend I did, but I also did not have enough information about my own power needs at that time.
