- Betting that this well was going to make him a very rich man, Cliff asked Sue Ellen to marry him. Her loving request to for a little time to think things over led him to believe that there was a very good chance that she'd accept.
Cliff was completely flabbergasted when JR walked into his office one day, grinning from ear to ear, and announced that he had tricked Cliff into buying a dry hole. When Cliff cited the geological reports, JR said they were fake. Cliff was stunned and redoubled drilling efforts for a short while, but then finally accepted the fact that he had been swindled out of $4,500,000.
He was now frantic because the loss of $4,000,000 could put Wentworth Tool & Die out of business and, not knowing where to turn, he went to Sue Ellen to borrow the money to pay back the company. She blew up and threw him out, along with his proposal of marriage. Then JR showed up and offered to buy Barnes-Wentworth #1 back from Cliff for $4,000,000, which he could in turn pay back to Wentworth Tool & Die. Cliff had no choice but to sell the field, although it was worth much, much more. He had lost all of his own money and his mother's respect. Regardless of the fact that he paid back the money he had borrowed from Wentworth Tool & Die, Rebecca fired him. - Zábava
The way JR just comes in and takes over his office, sitting down at his desk and waving the check at him. Classic JR.
Lol. I love how he upped the offer to compensate for his embezzlements and his rort of his mother.

My all time favorite JR quote! 😂
Mine is: " sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug"

That cherubic half-smile that JR has whenever he's about to lower the boom on somebody.
I love how J.R. always gives a thorough summary of someone’s failures! He goes right down a long list!

$4 million dollars and NO sense! What a beautiful shot! 🤣
Talked to some younger people and they have no clue about JR or Dallas. So very thankful I grew up in the 80s, when tv was actually worth watching.
John Dyer me too
John Dyer shows suck nowadays
i was born in 92 one year after the show was finished but i just bought the seasons on dvd in 2005 and then downloaded the rest and watched them endlessly, i still watch it from time to time, so juyst because it doesnt air anymore doesnt mean its gone forever
I have watch a current tv show like twenties years ago the humor is different in current tv series too
John Dyer I was born 2 years before Dallas ended and got into the show when it was on “SoapNet” back in 2003/2004 and brought season 1-4 on DVD. This show really does hold up the test of time.
jr flashing that bank check to cliff barnes like a boss
R.I.P to the tv legendary actors Ken & Larry. Damn I am so glad I was alive to witness your works. I will sorely miss both of you! Farewell my friends!
Steve W and somehow Ken Kercheval didn’t make the cut in the Emmys In Memoriam. Shameful
Love cliff Barnes vs j.r Ewing, and j.r. Ewing vs Jeremy wendel too
Well you will be dead soon too
How Larry Hagman managed to play that straight without going over into parody is an amazing feat of acting.
2:01..Cliffs facial expression and how JR turning the check and then let it drop before Cliff can grap it...PRICELESS😁😂
"millionaire time, that's what it was" The look on his face cracks me up every time.
Larry Hagman is underappreciated in his talent. He was hysterical in "I Dream of Jeanie" and was superb and perfect as J.R. in "Dallas." Incredible range with amazing dramatic and comedic timing.
I have here a cashiers check for 4.000.000 and no cents... JR is the MAN!

This is like music. No matter how many times I see it, Larry Hagman's performance here is just magnetic each and every time. And no slight to Ken Kercheval here, either; his wounded, shell-shocked Cliff is terrific.
Four million dollars and "NO SENSE." Good old JR, he certainly knew how to savor his victories.
+quitwhining1, LOL, he's four million dollars richer, and still as dumb as a mule. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
+Matt Beeman, it really is.
It was definitely a play on words intended to tell Cliff he had no sense.
JR GOT HIM GOOD LOL
quitwhining1 jr jr Ewing was a great talker love hearing him talk to cliff barnes
I like it when JR mentioned my hometown. He told Cliff, "The only property you own is a dry hole north of Lubbock." I do so like it when the pop culture refers to my old stomping grounds in one form or another.
Love hearing my hometown of Lubbock is mentioned in good ways lol
"You have succeeded in becoming the perfect failure!" LOL J.R. knew how to really stick it to Cliff Barnes.

J.r ewing was greatest winner 🏆 in tv series history
The way J.R. drops the cheque is so, so funny and cold at the same time.
The look on Cliff's face, priceless.
I've always wondered if that bit of business was written in the script or improvised on the set. Brilliant either way.
@@jetuber ....Maybe picked it up from when Steve Kanaly did it in the scene where Ray signs over the voting shares at the jail & he drops the contract on the floor as JR reached for it.
I've watched this scene dozens of times but this was the first time I noticed JR drop the check just as Cliff reached for it.
Okay see now I have to go back and watch it again didn't notice that
JR even has the nerve to sit in Cliffs own office chair.
+pepjrp, that's the audacity that JR Ewing has about him. JR was cocky, and he had a right to be cocky. He kept beating Cliff Barnes every time.
Not only that, at 2:19, Cliff handed J.R. the signed deed, and J.R. tossed the cashier's check forward, out of Cliff's hand, where it probably fell on the floor, forcing Cliff to bend down and pick it up.

J.R. Ewing is definately the man
I love how Jr just sits down in Cliff's chair.😅
4 million dollars and No Cents lol ....... every line was a insult to cliff
Jr told him poverty builds character too funny watching this in 2021
Me neither. Watching Dallas growing up taught me a lot about life. Sure it is exaggerated and embellished, but the issues dealt with on Dallas are some that each of us can relate to.
A lesson I learned from JR, as he was notorious with doing this: Stock proxies . . . in that I will never authorize someone to be my proxy when it comes to representing me with corporate stock matters . . . as I'd be clueless with what nefarious actions the proxy holder would do with my voting shares.
“You expected a gusher to become millionaire and all you got is a dry hole north of Lubbock”
😂😂 rubbing it at his face 😂😂😂 perfect villain JR Ewin
I always got a kick out of how JR would smile cherubically whenever he was about to nail someone.
He drops the check on the desk, and walks out and doesn't close the door behind him for a little extra rub in Cliffs face. Gotta love JR.
And that’s after sitting down in Cliff’s own chair!

Gary he know not to fuck with JR fuck him every time
+Derrick Jackson I agree
+Gary Jackson I'm big Dallas fan old and new don't fuck with the Ewings
Saxon C: None the less, JR and Alexis would have been fun to watch. First JR would have bedded her, then eventually they would have become at enemies after he did her dirty. She'd get revenge, but eventually JR would find a way to blackmail her and run her out of town.
Saxon C: That would have been a prime time match, JR vs. Alexis.
I love how JR says “Four Million Dollars and NO cents” - clearly saying it so it sounds like “No Sense”
The only property you own is a dry hole north of Lubbock.
Freeze frame at 2:44. The look on JR's face is classic. LOL.
Hilarious how this show always made a heel out of Cliff and Digger Barnes😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The best revenge JR got on Barnes was from the grave-Epic!
I forget what did he do to Cliff from the grave ???
@@17donhol Set him up and got him arrested for JR’s “murder.” JR said it was going to be his masterpiece, and it was! He even got Barnes’ daughter to help in the plan. CLASSIC! I love this scene. Finally Cliff, you have succeeded at becoming the perfect failure LOL! You need some money Cliff, and you don't have two cents to your name, and everything.
I wonder how much was direction and how much was Larry Hagman coming up with little golden touches ... like sitting in the chair and talking about Cliff's mother and the poverty builds character bit.
J.R. Ewing and Cliff Barnes had that RAREST of gifts - being funny WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO BE!!!

Cliff is such a putz. JR is the man. Great character portrayal.
The way that JR casually walks into Cliff's office, sits behind Cliff's desk, and teasingly flips the check while subtly rocking back-and-forth in Cliff's chair, is a demonstration of complete domination and humiliation of your opponent.

LOL, he drops the check on the desk when Cliff reaches out for it. Just total ownage! GO JR!!!!
„Millionaire time!“ 😂
What matters is that in the very end Cliff defeated J.R., and even took Ewing Oil. The good finally defeated the evil. Oh, by the way, sometimes the good needs to use evil methods in order to accomplish its goals. Even "Saint Bobby" knew that. Anyway, Hagman was a hell of actor. R.I.P.
But remember, J.R. got his revenge in the reunion movies
Cliff was far from good. He started out as a public employee who used and abused his position to witch hunt the Ewings and Ewing Oil because of a bunch of garbage his daddy told him that turned out to be nothing but bullcrap. Along the way he had an affair with a married woman who happened to be the wife of the focus of all his resentment and revenge for no better reason than to try and hurt his sworn enemies. He was handed the leadership of Wentworth T&D by his long lost mother (who btw completely ignored the birthright of the daughter she raised) and he promptly embezzled $4 million dollars from the company. The only reason he even had that piece of Ewing Oil property to replace that money was because he colluded with the corrupt Vaughn Leeland and others to take advantage of JR during a messy custody battle he was having with Sue Ellen. JR was dirty, JR was cruel, to say that JR was corrupt weakens the word, and JR was nasty but to claim that Cliff was good is completely laughable. And JR was not completely evil either, he did exhibit the capacity to show genuine love and affection for his parents and for his son and even in his own twisted way for Sue Ellen. He was by no means an ideal husband or man but then Sue Ellen was anything but an ideal wife and mother and Barns was just vile. I never thought much of Cliff but after he treated Afton like complete dirt when she was there for him no matter what I couldn't stand him. I'm glad that the new series for all it's flaws finally corrected the biggest flaw from the end of Dallas. Having JR lose Ewing Oil to Cliff Barnes was about the dumbest things I've ever seen written into a TV show. Ewing Oil wasn't just a name or a company it was a legacy from Jock, and no other company would have ever tempted JR to throw that away no matter how large it was. And Barnes would never have been smart enough to take it from him anyway.

No notary for the deed? I'm sure all states require that for filing a real property document. 🤣🤣
Not back then...
one of my favorite jr moments
Although Cliff usually got the worst end of it in his dealings with J.R., he himself was not a very nice person either. He could be manipulative and downright nasty. For example: in a later story he ruthlessly blackmailed JR's secretary Sly into becoming a "mole" for him inside Ewing Oil. He also cynically married Jamie Ewing in an attempt to undermine JR.
+jack Johnson, I found that out at the Ewing Barbecque when he did marry Jamie Ewing so there you have it.
The writing in the early years of DALLAS was spectacular. They had great writers, like Connie Marchetta. Really wove stories together very well.
